God damn i miss my razr

god damn i miss my razr

Also felt awesome flipping it open and... fuck man i just remember like 10th grade getting one and felt like fucking neo or something.

not to mention HOLY SHIT COLOR SCREEN IN MY POCKET

first phone i watched porn on

took all of 20 minutes to download a 200x200px boobie image

god damn thats awesome

can we make this thread a badass early 00's phone concepts thread?

so many awesome designs before everything just became a bigger and thinner rectangle after a bigger and thinner rectangle

always wish i copped one of these bad boys

yall remember sidetalking?

a friend of mine had that thing

it really doesnt get any more impractical in terms of input whoever designed this thing should get a medal

i still see people doing this with smartphones. makes me wanna punch them

What is it with nostalgia fags?

These threads always end with saying that new phones are so bland because they are all rectangle displays with no design.

>tfw Apple ruined phones forever
>tfw we will never see innovative designs again, just a million rounded rectangular screens.

And there it is.

It's true, though.

you can be nostalgic for flipstones and still appreciate that "innovative" in this context is a buzzword and that 99% of those designs were fucking retarded

rectangular displays are a thing because they're practical

there's basically nothing you can do better on a flippidiflip nineties nokia thing than on an iphone / android device

There are people who will buy this shit when it comes out?

It looks flimsy as fuck.

I can agree with what you said but there is no reason why we can't have a phone like this again.

>Rectangular touch screen
>Perfect sliding keyboard

ah the original meme was sidetalking

minimalist phones are the way to go

you can just buy that as an accessoire tho

put it on as a case, sliding keyboard connects via bluetooth

always wanted a punkt

sexy ass piece of tech

Dunno about "cool", I do miss things having,a personality though.

...

dig this

remember when everyone thought clear displays would be the future?

>remember when everyone thought clear displays would be the future?
Nope.
Must have been one of them meme things.

if you aint screenless youre just gay

jesus christ man if youve never seen this clickbait clear iphone picture you didnt surf the web in 2008

Yeah, but they don't come for all phones. Plus I've read that they can be a little dodgy at times.

I might switch over to something like that. Just give it a notification screen and it'd be perfect

youtube.com/watch?v=WuP6AQPRpUg

We are still heading there.

Looks like a $5 calculator.

I figure the very late 90s/up to mid 00s gave us the hardware innovation, whereas the past decade has been altogether more about refining the software side with the rise of apps and pretty soon it'll flip back to being about hardware for another decade whenever the first flexi screen handset is released or battery tech improves significantly

Always wanted one but I had an env2 at the time instead. Or was it a chocolate. I can't really remember.

I still have my razr. It fucking sucks. Pitiful hardware, an etchasketch has higher resolution, its bloated the fuck out with vcast (which is dead btw), not even a fucking 3.5mm jack (i have this gay ass dongle miniusb to 3.5 that came with it, but whats the point since you cant even pit music on it do to cuckorola)

flipping it open and close is about all you can do with it

I was just talkin about how Motorola should bring back the Razr with an OLED screen, modern 10MP camera, and android.

What for?

>screen too small to see your pictures
>too small to use the phone for anything other than texting and taking phone callss

There's a reason we don't make phones like this anymore.

People need to stop the MUH FLIP PHONE nostalgia. I blame anime.

I imagine that not having a touch screen might save a few dollarydoos, but I'm talking out of my ass so someone might want to correct me

What you're talking about is making another dumb phone since you can't realistically make a non shit smart phone in this form factor the screen size is way too limiting.

If that's what you want you can use the old Razr and get the same shitty experience. Also reminder the Razr's keys weren't really very good.

It is time to let it go.

sick nasty. that a concept? retro af

Angrily hanging up on someone was so much more satisfying

It has been more than 6 years now with this lil' nigga

Submerged twice and it still works. My Dad still uses his.

My dad had that phone years back. I have no clue what happened to it.

LITERALLY the best flip phone on the market today

I still see people with feature phones.

I thought about getting one myself, if there was a feature phone that I could program myself to make a few apps I would use that aggregate certain sites (HN, Lobste.rs, my own weather app) I would chuck my bloated junky Android phone and roll with a feature all day long.

>tfw I once had a phone that lasted 2 days on 1 charge

>tfw my env2 lasted over a week on one charge

Plenty of actual Japs are content with flip phones so long as they can send email.

Japan is also full of "BBS sites" still to this day. And fax machines.

This is one thing I like about Japanese websites is they are dead simple to navigate since they're using 1990s UI

I remember those lights and that standard ring tone clearer than anything, specially that cunt going off when hangover.

God tier right here.

it's rose-colored glasses dude
the razr can only store a handful of texts, not nearly enough to have multiple conversations at once - and the buttons are so flat they might as well be a touch screen
but yeah, it sure is a e s t h e t i c

desu I had the razr when it was out and the biggest issue was the battery life. It was terrible. By the end of my 2 year contract I was lucky to get 6 hours out of it

Had that one in black it was amazing and the speakers were actually decent.

Didn't text or talk much huh? Feature phones really only lasted a day or two on one charge if you had an active social life and texted a shit-ton on a daily basis. it's not much different from now except there's so many more ways to drain a phone battery.

It depended on the day, I used to go over 5k texts a month

Funny you created this thread OP I was looking through some old photos and found this gem from 2011

*2010

I downloaded in 2011 but I just remembered the watermark

Replace blackberry with windows and it works today

>Memory Used:71%
any bets on how much memory it was?

I'm going with 32 MiB

Ah damn, I remember the news stories from kids parents getting $2000+ overage bills from Verizon in a single month because they used to screw people on limiting sms rather than data like it is now. Funny how sms is unlimited now.

My Samsung E250i or whatever literally lasted over a month on a single charge. I never quite measured it but I wouldn't be surprised if it could do 2-3 months.

Also, the problem with phones is that their operating systems are insecure piles of garbage.

If you go with a dumbphone or feature phone today you'll be using some barely maintained, closed source legacy pile of crap with dozens of unpatched 0days and trivial exploits.

That's the only reason I moved on personally, so I could get a phone where I have at least some amount of insight into the codebase and auditing process. (SailfishOS user)

Yeah but I don't think anyone's targeting feature phones, not to mention most feature phones had extremely limited web connectivity that relied on server side processing on servers that were shut down years ago.

Camera for on the spot photos. Android for watching youtube, GPS, and clover. OlED screen because why should you have a shit screen just because its small?

I still have a razr, and set my GS7 aside every now and then because of how nice it is to have a small durable flip phone.

Ok but I've got a fully functional computer in my pocket that can call, senx texts, stream hd video, browse the web seamlessly and comfortably, and it lasts all day on one charge.

There is no reason i would go back to a flip phone. If you like the design/durability i won't judge but smartphones are better in almost every single way.

There's no need to target something that they already have exploits for.

Modern exploitation is done via fully-featured frameworks that send you the right exploit based on your detected environment (look up TURBINE/QUANTUMTHEORY).

If they've written an exploit for your system once, it'll be trivial to send it at any time. There's no incentive to remove an exploit just because the system in question is legacy.

That was one fucking stupid idea

>Android fags
>employed

Kek it's true. I used to go over a lot. Eventually I bought the biggest text plan they had. Verizon were fucking jews

this mufugga

One of the best phones ever, and my personal favorite. Even when it died after nearly a decade of use, I count bring my self to toss it out.

Love the spaced keyboard layouts. It really is more conformable, even if it just moving your hands a few inches further apart.

(yes, it is worth typing twice)
For when you just need a real phone.

Yes, I have actually talked with some research teams that are working on this. It is actually a big deal, with active funding. It seems like a lot of work for no real gain. Still I think we need more R&D so I support it hoping some secondary discovery is useful. But really would like to know why we need this?

I might have to check it out. Given the way the dumb flip phone market is now, many of the designs are just slapped together and price cut with older hardware. Which make me sad. As good build and design requires a holistic project, the age of the tech is not as important as the integration and making it not flimsy.

>Luke wants his Light saber back.
Looks neat, but how is the number input?
...
OMG, do you rotate the scroll wheel like a rotary phone to dial? Because that would be amazing, not the most practical but not completely broken either.

looks like a tampon.

I used to have one of those. I had the original that was built to milspec.

>accidentally took it swimming a few times
>used to show it off by throwing it against brick walls
>accidentally dropped it off a 13-story balcony once

It stopped working when I opened it and flopped down and I had punished it so much, the screen had finally just flipped off. It lasted about 7 years.

Just not the same mate. Holding a keyboard in your hands that is secure to the phone and makes a click when you pull it out is sex.

Not exactly a flip phone, but I use my X3-02.5 since 6 years (I actually bought a new one on ebay one year ago). I love it so much, and it has some modern features... Check out this bad boy :
- It has 3.5G, and I use Opera mini to check buses and trains, and sometimes to go on Sup Forums when I'm taking a shit
- Wi-fi (Most of today's feature phones don't have it)
- 5 Mp camera
- 3-6 days battery life
- Touchscreen (!)
- Facebook, Twitter, E-mais, Whatsapp apps

I'm living the modern life

i remember seeing a siemens sl45-i and being so fucking jealous

never had one though, my first phone was a 3510i with the paratrooper game

it looks so nice, how much was it when you bought it off of ebay?

>2.2 inch screen
>watch videos

are you gonna carry around a magnifying glass too?

It was ~150 euros, with box, manual, etc., almost new. Expensive, but I bought it from a german guy who was selling old things from his house. It was a chance, since you can't really trust most of the sellers from ebay, especially those who sell "new" or "like new" devices, with a stock photo instead of the actual picture of the phone he's selling.

I'm seeing a lot of the regular X3-02 models, is the 2.5 model rare?

I sort of collected smartphones back in 2004-2008 or so, too bad I've tossed most away since then

some of these things were fucking ridiculous

I would. I'd rather have this than some retarded touchscreen with no tactile feedback.

That's not really important. The X3-02.5 doubled the cpu, rom and ram capacities. But either model will look a little laggy by today's standards. I had both and did not see any difference.

and for the rom you can put a 64 Gb micro-sd anyway

I had the corrected version of that. The 3660. It was super in its time.

Oh man I had one of these. I was the first person in my school with a video phone, got in as a grey import.

What a phone

over $300 lol

I had one of these once.

While pretty cool, quite awkward to phone on.

Traded it away eventually.

I once thought one of those would be pretty cool if it could run emulators (even for just like NES and GBC)

never got around checking if any were available/how well they worked, tho

I would if the external screen was small and not touchscreen. Also, qwerty or half-qwerty keyboard would be nice

>Verizon are fucking jews
fify

I think the iPod video was around that size but people watched movies on them all the time. Not that it wasn't terrible but this is before mobile devices were what they are today.

I'd buy the shit out of that.
But I'd prefer Razr V8 to Razr V3 - it had bigger screen and would work better as a semi-smartphone

This is some shit tier nostalgia. It was the most over-rated piece of shit. It was just a flip phone. back when everyone else already had a flip phone. What was special about this one? idk, it was skinny or something and had the worst feeling buttons.

I remember when they were still stuck in that old way and they were just giving away unlimited data plans left and right like it was nothing. To this day I've kept my unlimited data plan. I don't even switch to wifi in my apartment cuz fuck it.

>n-gage
>engage

took me years to get that

Haha, yeah. I upgraded my unlimited data to 4G though, I live in one of those countries were everything tends to be unlimited even today so sticking to 3G wasn't worth it.

But what I still have is an awesome multi-SIM thingy. There are 5 working SIM cards for my number, this means up to 5 unlimited 4G connections for the price of one (= 20e/month, plus 2e/month for the multi-SIM function). I actually only actively use 2 nowadays, still a steal to have one in both my tablet and my phone (and one in my USB 4G dongle)

>What was special about this one?
It's probably the best looking one. I never had one but I think they look very good, plus they were popular so even I can nostalgia over them (I saw them even if I never used one).

...

...

are you holy-shitting because that guy didnt get it or because you didnt get it either?

I didn't get it either.
