Vinyl as a medium cannot reproduce as wide of a frequency range as CD.
Also the analog playback process with a stylus moving over grooves and tonearm vibrating inevitably leads to further distortion of sound.
It's just not very good compared to digital.
They are heavier and easier to lose. AND with worse audio quality to boot. It will only be the future when it will be able to play lossless audio and when it will get its power from your phone, inductively or whatever.

Apple has had a lossless format for several years. It's even open source and likely supported by AirPods, since it's listed in the iPhone 7 tech specs for audio playback.
It could be done even today using an adapter similar to those in wireless mice. Why nobody did this yet completely baffles me.

I am what you could consider an apple fanboy, and I hate the design of the new pods. Get rid of the headphone jack, that's fine. There are plenty of Bluetooth headphones out there and the technology has grown so much. If anything, I'm extremely disappointed that Apple simply took such a bad design and decided it's what people want. They could have found ways to push Bluetooth even further. Develop it so that it's no longer a joke in the audiophile world. But no. We get these little white earrings that many people will lose. It's a bad design, and apple could have done better. I used to think that Tim Cook was just in a bit of a slump and that his direction just needed some time to work. Earbuds don't provide any noise isolation. The only environment that earbuds won't be affected by noise is in every situation where fullsized headphones make more sense.
