I want to get this for my wife's son as a back-to-school gift. Is this a good idea and will he be able to play games on it as well as work?
I want to get this for my wife's son as a back-to-school gift...
Depends. Does he want the whole nine yards or does he want a niche device for little bang for the buck?
Fuck him. You ain't his daddy.
I want to get him a top notch machine so I figured I'd get him an Apple.
It titters on two pressure points. On the one hand you might think he needs to blow some steam after a hard days schooling and appease him by showing how much of a great father you can be. You must like seeing him smile. And os based upon this, your other hand weighs upon the notion that perhaps you should spend only what is necessary for his studies, thereby increasing your spending accuracy and preserving your bucks. Apple is a good choice. Get the Apple laptop.
>my wife's son
nobody caught this joke
this joke has already been used
the original thread was better
All threads are original. It's because we see OP's new thread that its essence provides a fresh beginning.
I had this laptop, don't buy it. It has barely enough power to play YT.
If you want to buy him a nice device that can also do things, look into lenovo yoga series maybe
Also, what the fuck is the whole deal with back to school gifts? "OH, great job there mate on being lazy ass for 2 months, here, take that 1k$ piece of aluminium as a reward". Take him to movies or something.
If you want top notch get the pro Instead
...
>top notch
>throttling overheating housefire
>Macbook
>no rMBP
come one dude.
You need the 15" 2.8GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, with 1Tb PCIe-based flash storage, and then AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB of GDDR5 memory,
Step it up.
I play stardew valley on it just fine. But, the other posters are right, it's not a great laptop. It's made for a very specific use case – a person who needs a very lightweight laptop capable of basic web browsing and word processing.
Also, sage since this is most likely a troll thread.
While fucking slow for uncompressing xcode 8, it's fairly capable. I have the m5 model, and it's great for my use case; ultra portable, for programming and writing scripts, watching videos, with great battery life. It literally fits me just right. I don't care about the single USB c port, and I got used to the weird keyboard.
For a kid? Not so sure they'd like such a niche device. Honestly, an Air or Pro would be better.
Just get the Air its the best laptop Apple makes.
fuck you
>applel's BEST is a throttling overheating glossy 1366x768 TN piece of shit for $900
retard
I didn't say it was good but its their best.
The stock Pro 13" is only marginally better and $350 more.
The MacBook is better than the air
Literally just get them a 2007 MacBook, it's working fine for me and I don't even GNU + Linux
>macshit
Never again.
>back-to-school gift
you americans really do this?
Look, you can buy the previous year's model for about two hundred dollars cheaper and it even has the same cpu in it. It connects to wifi and the version of Firefox is up to date. You can even use Java if you're into that. Any Windows PC from the same time period is going to chug on Windows 10
>this is what mactards actually believe
OSX gets more bloated with iOS cancer every version, whereas Win6.X has gotten faster with each version.
My old Inspiron that came with Vista runs faster now with 8.1 and now 10 LTSB than it ever did before.
>OSX gets more bloated with iOS cancer every version
That's why I run 10.7.5 Lion :^)
Anyone salty about macOS or Macs in general has never seriously used a Mac for more than five minutes
stop lying. You don't have a family.
