Decent, not good in price to performance though

depends, most of them are overpriced, get a 2012 non retina and upgrade it if you don't want to pay those repairs and just want to feel the tacos meme

>tacos meme
macOS meme
god i hate this new computer

I talked to a fellow student who had a macbook (air I think) with 64gb ssd, and he said it's literally impossible to swap it out for a bigger one, is that true? Why even sell computers with just 64gb in 2016?

The only good thing about the Macbook is it uses usb-c rather than overpriced magsafe cables.

Sup Forums Used to bash anybody who made a post about macs or anything apple then after one fate-full WWDC 3 or 4 years ago BAM apple fags invade and its a norm here.

So.....They're good and keep their speed after years of use depends on how much you want to spend.

To Jew your money out of your pocket.

yeah, as far as i know you are stuck with soldered parts. the mbp 2012 was the last one that allowed you to upgrade with 3rd party parts

>most of them are overpriced
>suggests buying the most overpriced one

I puked all over mine when drunk and now it's broken

sad times

they'd be good, but i wish they'd raise the price a bit so it's more exclusive.

also, big rumor out now is that they are axing the headphone jack on all of their laptops, even the macbook pro

Do you have the courage to buy their new accessories?

nah - I'm not really a courageous guy

i just bought a thunderbolt DAC in preparation of the change

The shills are real. Macs are shit, nothing special about them, other than the bullshit that they make the effort to look different. Buy a laptop that costs less than a mac, and get much more power, you will be happy and completely forget about your curiosty. Thats all you are experiencing right now, because of shills, and marketing.

no PCM or lossless streaming -> not Hi-Fi

And the best thing Airpods can receive is AAC. It's good but not enough for some people.

>Buy a laptop that costs less than a mac, and get much more power
but less resale value. That's the only good thing about Apple. They hold their price better than the alternatives.

I like them, even with the lack of ports, but given that Apple rarely lowers their prices until a hardware shake up it's necessary to time your purchase around new releases. Otherwise the depreciation combined with Apple's fixed price model means you're not getting as much as you could.

It's probably a good time to buy one right now.

Overpriced, but for what it is (ultra portable laptop), it's good. Most of the time you are better off just buying a rMBP though.

their design is on point though. i think dell has closed the gap a bit with certain models, as has asus, but most of the market is lagging way behind.

"Thin line between bravery and stupidity"

This might be the only good reason to buy a mac. Not enough in my opinion to get one, but definitely a true positive. Only because of stupid people though.

osx is decent i guess but the hardware is gaudy and overpriced so get an older one and upgrade or install hackintosh

Why would you buy a computer only based on its design?

I have a MBPr early2015 13 inch and its nothing special. Had an x220 before. As for now i would buy an XPS13 or a Lenovo T460s because i dont need the OSX and the sensitive aluminium body.

i wouldn't. but it is a big factor for me. design isn't just aesthetics. it's the culmination of form, function, interaction, cost, etc.

design is integral to the user experience.

i think apple has been making mistakes with their design as of late (headphone jack, removing ports, mouse with a terribly located charging port, integrated ram, etc.) but they still do a lot of things right.

>why buy a car based on design
>why buy clothes based on design
>why buy a house based on design

This is why you PC lurches are so easily dismissed. Design and aesthetics count in the real world.

If you mean the fanless ultraportable, it has it's edge case that it's made for and does that pretty well. Most of the bashing is based on autists intentionally taking it out of the edge case it's meant for and acting as if the rest of apple's lineup didn't exist. Then again Sup Forums reacted the exact same way when the original Macbook Air was unveiled so I suppose it's actually to be expected from these people.

MBPs have always been god tier IMO. A bit on the pricier side, but the screens and keyboards have always been good, the trackpad is unparalleled and they're mostly pretty well thought out. Some people will moan about how they overheat, but that's mostly based on one faulty machine that ended up being replaced on the spot and tests run under windows (apple is known to have pretty crappy thermal control in their windows drivers).

As for the MBA, I've never really understood what the point is with it, specially the 13" one. It's lighter than the 13" MBP, but specially after the 13" rMBP I don't think the difference is enough to really make a difference.

They use a proprietary PCI E interface which no manufacturer can produce replacement parts except apple :(

Agree completely.

The trackpad is the best thing in this nb. Everything else can be found in other notebooks too.

I'm using one right now. It's honestly a very nice machine, but there's just one problem.

There is not a single good web browser for it.

Safari constantly unloads tabs from memory and doesn't have webm support.
Chrome eats battery like a motherfucker, and Opera is just Chrome but owned by Chinks with a toggle to enable the same sort of "drop everything from memory" that helps Safari maintain decent battery life.
Firefox is decent at best, and Dev Edition with e10s actually consumes battery at a rate that puts Chrome to shame.
Brave almost had it, but for some reason it just doesn't block ads on Youtube and when looking it up, the devs obviously closed the issue because "Works on my machine."
I haven't even bothered with Vivaldi, but there is nothing indicating that it will be any better than any other Chromium derivative.

>leaving out the word "ONLY"

kys

Not impossible, it's just not off-the-shelf stuff. Kingston made one for some time IIRC and there's a mac specialist company called otherworld computing that makes replacement SSDs for Macbooks with the proprietary connectors. They're a bit on the pricier side, but they do work pretty well.

Here's a link to their site:
macsales.com/

No soldered ssd, that's the RAM. The ssd uses a proprietary PCI-E connector, and a company called OWC has made some ssd's that work with the connector on 2013+ airs and pros, although they're not quite as fast as the ones that come with the laptops.

You say it as if applels design is so superior that all others aren't vuable options. I don't even think apple design is very good at all, like no physical buttons on the trackpad, sacrificing so much for the sake of being thin. These a are a couple examples, but their design is not superior, and certainly not worth the money.

that's literally the only thing that influences me buying hardware. what else is there?

Yes I agree. Vivaldi on OSX consumes also massive amounts of battery power. Safari is the only way to go if you want to save power.

Apple

>Safari constantly unloads tabs from memory
Never experienced this. How many tabs do have opened?

You must be one of those who come on this board because mobile defaults you here first right? You are at the wrong place.

>pcpartpicker.com/product/BKW9TW/corsair-case-750d
That looks like cheap shit though.

300 Dollar for a 240 GB drive?? fucking serious?

>If it's not overpriced it's shit

It happens if I have 10+ tabs opened. Any messaging services won't update in the background, and open Sup Forums threads with autoupdate enabled won't refresh in the background, and so on and so forth.

i didn't say that at all. there was a time when they were quite far ahead in terns of build quality, but that time isn't now. there are plenty of alternatives on the market, and no one computer is right for all users.

their focus on design has pushed other companies to make hardware that isn't purely utilitarian, clunky, ugly, etc.

other brands are doing a much better job with developing new hybrid tech. i like what lenovo does in that space.

i think most people would agree, regardless of what they think of apple, that their trackpad is fantastic. i really like the xps pad though.

>no physical buttons on the trackpad
>has only ever used cheap windows laptops
After trying out some shitty clickpads I was skeptical too, but Mac trackpads are so nice that tap-to-click is not only good, but preferable - and click-and-drag using the trackpad button really does "just werk". Sure, Macbooks aren't perfect, but Apple does not fuck around when it comes to trackpads.

>flimsy diving board trackshit
>fantastic

...

Of course you Apple fruits would reject brushed aluminum, since your marketing team conditioned you to dislike anything that's built to last.

A macbook is the best possible laptop you could buy with someone else's money. Fantastic machines.

He must have gotten it used, Apple haven't sold a MBA with a 64gb SSD since about 2011

I hate to admit it, but with the exception of power, the Macbook hits my sweet spot of size, weight, a great screen..

My 13" Air should last me at least another year though, so i'm in no rush to upgrade.

Ultra cancer. My mom has one and she could have a twice as powerful windows computer for the same price.

You can have something look good without compromising functionality. Apple is all self-proclaimed style and no substance.

Every single MacBook Pro I've owned has had overheating issues. Put the machine under load for more than 10 minutes and the keyboard starts to burn your fingerprints off.

>muh specs
face it user, not everyone is a disgusting smelly gaming neet piece of shit

>>why buy a car based on design
>>why buy clothes based on design
>>why buy a house based on design
exactly though, why?
>car that looks cool but has shitty mileage, requires consistent maintenance, and very little space
>clothes that look nice but are too expensive to buy a lot of, could be made from cheap materials and wear out soon, could be uncomfortable, could be a part of a fashion trend that goes out of style soon
>house that looks nice but has structural damage, a small yard, not enough space, bad neighborhood, etc.

This fucking guy. Exclusive? Kill your self

This. Sporting a 2012 i7 2.3 with 16 GB ram and it's quick even running Sierra.

They are superb value.

No reason to upgrade so far.

>this meme again

build quality, performance and customer service are all at pair

BUT!
>the car has a great warranty and service contract
>the clothes are niether. its comfortable and great quality
>the house is newer than a half of the other houses on the block, and has a higher resale value based on its superior architecture

close
running a mid 2013 model with yosemite, 2.3 i7, 1TB, 16GB, retina

still running smooth and battery lasts about 4 hours with music , multiple desktops, and servers running

Those things are not design.

The fact that a 3 year-old laptop that would have costed around 2000$ at launch is still good for browsing and media isn't really a huge achievement, user. I can say the same about my Thinkpad T410.

About the mbp, I don't really care for them. Their keyboards are bad (not that laptops that thin are known for good keyboards), the trackpad is great, the screen is great, large bezels, heavy for the size. Upgrading anything is a crux. I feel like a XPS 13 is a better value.

As for the Air, I have no idea why it exists. MBP for everyday usage, Macbook for facebook, the air strikes this weird in-between with a bad screen and no redeeming features.

Finally the macbook feels completely retarded to me, but whatever. Acer made a thinner and cheaper version with double the ports.

>this meme again
build quality, performance and customer service are shit

>build quality
Pretty shit, m8. Paper-thin aluminum that bends under slight amount of force. No cooling. Everything just glued together.
That's as shit as it gets.

>performance
midrange laptop performance, which is further gimped by shitty cooling.

Pretty much an overpriced typewriter.

said no one ever

Is it worth waiting for the new macbooks?

I have this season's NEETbux and I don't think i'm responsible enough to not spend it

they are replacing the function keys with a shitty touchscreen and probably removing some ports

gross

anyway, what's this month's meme laptop?

I have $1200

i would still recommend a macbook but i'm not sure if you can find one for that price, all i'm saying is i think the new generation of mbps will be a step down from the 2015 version

>i would still recommend a macbook but
and by 'macbook' you mean the pro, right?

I heard those regular macbooks were kinda shit

This

see depending on your uses i think the regular macbooks can be good, they are certainly overpriced though and i feel like they may drop in price once the macbook air is phased out

The macbook and the MBP both start at $1299

why even have the regular macbook?

>trackpad impossible to click near upper edge
>extremely loose near bottom edge
>overall flimsy diving board piece of shit
>even applel themselves has admitted it's utter shit now and has trashed the design to go back to copying 90's era laptops with solid non-click touchpads
>still has no real buttons
>relies on pressure sensitive gimmick bullshit
>if you press too lightly or too hard it does something completely different than what you intended
>ultra shit tier zero travel chiclet keyboard
>OSX is a steaming pile of shit with horrendous battery management
>applel's solution is to cram in a massive heavy 95WHr battery to make up for it
>even XXXTREME GAMER cancer like razer blade with 4X the CPU/GPU power and 70WHr battery matches it in battery life in same tasks
>gets BTFO by 55WHr Yoga 2 in battery life in same tasks
>the battery takes up the space where a cooling system would've been in a laptop not designed by the world's thinnest and lightest gay hipsters
>overheats at the slightest task because abysmal crippled cooling system
>throttles to 800mhz because of chronic overheating problems
>retina meme supposedly for "pros" have have gloss mirror coating makes it impossible to use anywhere outside or with overhead lighting
>blurry as shit retina meme scaling
>shitbook air is even worse with glossy 1366x768 TN eye cancer
>systemic battery explosion problems for over a decade from overheating

>macshit is good
Can we finally put an end to this meme?

what would you recommend as a replacement?

Nice answer you fucking autist

idk, portability i guess? it's kind of fucked i'll be honest, the 13 inch rmbp isn't even heavy or big

They would sell so many more macbooks if they got rid of the airs and made the price $899 starting

They are, most likely one of those random acer laptops with apple name on them, the celeron is a joke.

Ultra portability and battery life.

The MacBook regular is pretty much designed for business types and bloggers who spend all their time on the go and only use relatively lightweight software like office, mail clients and browsers. As the other user said it works fantastically in its primary use case but fails when people try and use it for most other purposes. I believe the air is meant to be the more general purpose machine and the pro is dedicated for power users and performance

>2016
>Storing files locally and not using the cloud
U wot?

Well, considering I can purchase a Razer Meme Stealth or a Lenovo X1 Carbon with way better specs for that price, no. Macs aren't bad hardware wise, but I wouldn't pay more than $600 for the latest MacBook Air 13. They're extremely overpriced, so unless you absolutely need OS X you should get a PC instead. I'm going to order a Razer Blade Stealth to replace my T420 as a light gaming/shitposting machine.

Fuck no. Apple sucks dog dicks for mere nickles on the dime for being shit.

A $200 Acer would probably do the trick with how crippled throttlebooks are.

Ever thought that you might be conditioned by Sup Forums's memes? There are many people on this board that buy ugly things and claim they are beautiful for unintuitive reasons in order to sound sophisticated. You appear like one of them.
