I'm lazy and I'm not going to look for it, but it has been proven that uninstalling it does increase your battery life substantially, and same thing happens with facebook app.
It was even found that the battery consumption was filed under the "system" process, and that's why if you go to the battery usage screen you'll never see facebook and messenger with high usages
