pick no more than one

the libreoffice variant is pretty good

>implying implications

Open/Libre Office today is at more or less similar level to MS Office 97. So Libre Office 2035 should be at the same level as MS Office 2016

I switched to Ubuntu on my school laptop and LibreOffice is the only thing I'm not a fan of. I don't write many papers so it's OK for the most part but I'd prefer Word anyday.

probably never, openoffice sucked and is dead, libreoffice sucks, that one in germany isn't bad...softmaker? not free and not open source though. not even gonna touch the chinese shit

why is it so fucking hard

why is it they can make a working operating system but not a fucking text editor that is not awful, how fucking hard can it be compared to getting a kernel working?

but ms office 2016 is just a shiney version of ms office 97

so libre offic 2035 will just be shineyer version of libreoffice 2016

tldr its all the same turd

Libre Office is fantastic. It's all you need.

You know MS loves Linux now. Any day.

Libre's okay, but it's kind of clunky and inelegant.

It tries too hard to be MS word. I just need a good solid word processor. I could deal with Libre now and then for a few odd features, but it's just not fun to deal with everyday.

>not just shooting yourself in the head with a gun so you'll never need any software again

Way before that, I Would go for Markdown and just convert the formatting in Libre via Macro.

the only thing bad about Libre Office is handling docx and etc x files, which is not Libre Office fault, since those files are proprietary shit

kek

For real tho, what's wrong with LibreOffice besides the look?

>For real tho, what's wrong with LibreOffice besides the look?

it fucks up when you give your documents to other people if they are using other editors

you honestly can't use it for your resume or for any business documents as people will get mad and frustrated that your formatting is jacked

Excuse me but can you explain WHAT document are you trying to make?

Because you are better off using LyX as a frontend to LaTeX than using a pleb tier word processor like MS Orifice for top tier documents. If you do need a shitty Word-like formatting, LibeOffice fits perfectly that niche.

LibreOffice is perfectly fine.

And if you don't mind being spied on, Google Sheets is okay.

>not realizing wps office now supports linux
You were saying?

>not realizing wps office on linux is actually a thing
Why hasn't anyone caught onto this yet?

As someone who does about 8 hours of typing a day (transcription), MS Office is irreplaceable. Simply has the largest dictionary for autocorrect/autocomplete. Any freetard office can't even come close.

Yeah, I guess if you're a neet or high schooler doing his 200 word essay you won't give a shit, but any professional is at a significant disadvantage using foss crap.

>freetard
opinion discarded

This. I have a docx with headers that get stripped and fucked with when loaded in libreoffice. It's proprietary shit and it won't go away as long as offices keep using Office XP or Office 2003/2010.

Oh no, a neckbear disregarded my opinion. What ever will I do.

WPS Office is ok

I used LibreOffice to complete my degree from start to finish. No problems with compatibility issues either because myself and my professors were competent and not idiots.

...

Why aren't you using pdf for resumes user?

this

because everyone expects them in word format

many major job sites won't even let you upload a pdf

/Thread

>Last release 3.3 / 25 January 2011; 5 years ago

save in doc or odt

the problem only occurs with docx files because the format is utter shit

*skeptical*

would you really send your resume written in some open office software to someone you pretty much know is using word?

> but not a fucking text editor that is not awful
Emacs has been here for quite a long time.

>text editor
The phrase you were looking for was word processor. A text editor is shit like notepad.

I thought you could use Office online for free.

LibreOffice is fine unless you need capability with MS Office which sadly is far too common.
OpenOffice is now LibreOffice because Oracle bought Sun.

It's impossible because "fucking awful" has no meaning.

WPS OFFICE ELSE GTFO

Does it have a comparable dictionary for autocorrect as Word?

YES. Why doesn't anyone know this already????

WPS Office?

Because it sounds like a meme.

this, wps shits on libreoffice

libreoffice

I just want one note on Linux ;_;

Very subtle way of introducing niggerism into a subject. Well fuck that. I am out.

Isn't it more like office 2003/office xp?

same diff

OP said REFINED, not late 90s ui

Pretty much these, until you have to maintain a legacy Abscess database

>OP said REFINED
where?
And only dumb liberal artfag and NEETs care about UI in an office suite

Way to take the bait you fucking cocksocket..

Word: Latex
Excel: libre/open office sort of gets the job done
Outlook: No viable alternative that I've seen so far.

if it weren't for outlook I'd drop office.
If it weren't for outlook and silverlight, I could drop windows entirely.

>Outlook: No viable alternative that I've seen so far.
Employed people use thunderbird

But I'm employed, and everyone in my office uses outlook.

What features does thunderbird offer over outlook?

Honestly basically this, though I find Markdown to be much simpler. WYSIWYG editors are kinda mediocre after using emacs+evil markdown + pandoc. A lot less fucking around with fonts and formatting and a lot more just getting shit done.

That late 90's ui looks a hell of a lot better than the crap ui op posted

>t. fosstard

This is unfortunately not remotely true

Is this why linux UIs generally look like dogshit? Because people who use it want their UIs to look stuck in the 90s?

Made me laff more than it should have

>ms office
>refined
lmfao

use Pages by Apple and learn what real word processing is

Nah no thanks, they'll probably innovate and remove such old fashioned features such as 'Save' and 'Print' because courage.

> When will there be an open source alternative as refined as MS office?

There won't be, MS pays its employees to make the product.

In the office/business setting no one gives a flying fuck about anything that isn't MS office.
