Who here set up a raid 0 array with two ssds?

Who here set up a raid 0 array with two ssds?

was it worth it?

did you lose your data?

no one
no
kys

why would you not do a raid 1?

thank you

because you lose half your capacity
ssd cost essentially doubles then

my 256gb xps 13 is actually two 128gb ssds in raid 0

idk if its worth it i guess it was cheaper on dells side since they could just skip ordering 256gb drives and order more 128gb drives in bulk cutting their costs

i didnt lose any data, been a year

do you see any performance advantages?
or was it just for convenience so your os recognized only a single drive (besides your hdd im assuming you have)

forgot there are poor people here, sorry.

wtf is on the picture?

im already up to 1800 bucks, sorry im not retarded

seems like it would be perfect.
less write cycles per drive, double the r/w speeds
as long as it doesn't lose power, right?

thats the problem, if you double the volatility of your storage, since you have two points of failure instead of one

basically i just want to know how often ssds fail

sounds like you wasted your money, chump.
but yeah if you have another disk for important storage, and you image your system regulary.. just raid 0 your two ssds. the only draw back is everything is gone when a drive starts to go.

I'm assuming that he opened the box of m&ms and inside the box was a bag of m&ms.
I'm pretty sure that I have seen this

reminder that raid0 should only be used when you don't care about the data on that array, or if it's nested. don't get greedy.

do i care about my windows os?
are you talking about like cherished family pictures and important documents?
because obviously i dont care about speed accessing those, i can throw those into the hdd

x2 850 evo 120gb raid0

not as good as a samsung m.2 but perhaps ill sell em both and get it aftrer all.

never lost my data, never had a problem.

jesus god.. put your files on a different disk and take images of the array when you hit configuration / software milestones.. it's not that complicated, friend.

If you're using RAID0 then you don't care about your data.

By that, I mean you have a very specific use-case where the data is transient - high volume data processing, etc.

>Who here set up a raid 0 array with two ssds?
I did it with four SSDS instead of two.
>Was it worth it?
Yes.
>did you lose your data?
No.

Back in 2012 I bought four refurbished 60gb corsair force gts for $50 each.
A 240gb back then was like $200.
More speed, same capacity, same price.
I still use them today.

depends your raid back-end

software raid
>not worth the trouble honestly
>had nothing but problems with it
>only a slight speed increase in actual use

hardware raid
>can be extremely good (depends on the chipset)
>no mb bus limitation on pci-e raid cards
>relatively easy to set up, post bios
>stays permanent trough reformats
>you can install an OS on the drive with zero problems
>significant speed increase during ever-day use

>I did
>doesn't feel different in speed, but now I got 1 large volume spanned over 2 ssds
>no, but just in case, I'm running an automated image based backup every 2 hours

Why would you not buy a hard drive just to eternally back it up? You don't even get Improved wrote speeds

Because RAID1 allows you to continue working when a hard drive fails.

You just unplug the dead one, bung in the new one and get back up and running.

If it's a hotswap raid, you don't even power down.

If you use an external hdd you:
1. You have a sync issue between your last backup and your current one.
2. Unless you're doing a full disk clone, it won't be bootable.
3. Massive slowdown or lockouts whilst you back up. (Note if doing an image, it's not a given that you'll be able to continue using your computer whilst it images)

Also, y'know, RAID is not a backup. The two are completely different and many people get them confused.

yes

Anything except raid 0 gives you a single drive failsafe, raid 6 gives you two drive failsafes (also hotswappable)
Raid 1 is like the retarded brother of raid 5

is that chris cristie, the governer of alabama?
