>Computers, intelligent machines, and robots seem like the workforce of the future. And as more and more jobs are replaced by technology, people will have less work to do and ultimately will be sustained by payments from the government, predicts Elon Musk, the iconic Silicon Valley futurist who is the founder and CEO of SolarCity, Tesla, and SpaceX.
>According to Musk, there really won't be any other options.
>"There is a pretty good chance we end up with a universal basic income, or something like that, due to automation," says Musk to CNBC. "Yeah, I am not sure what else one would do. I think that is what would happen."
>In a country with universal basic income, each individual gets a regular check from the government. Switzerland considered instituting a universal basic income of 2,500 Swiss francs ($2578) a month this summer. Voters ultimately rejected the plan, but it sparked a broad, global conversation.
>Also this summer, President Obama addressed the idea of a universal basic income in an interview with the Director of MIT's Media Lab, Joi Ito, and Scott Dadich, editor in chief of WIRED: "Whether a universal income is the right model — is it gonna be accepted by a broad base of people? — that's a debate that we'll be having over the next 10 or 20 years."

This sounds like communism
Jason Brooks
the labour party in the UK, have been discussing a UBI, as it'll be inevitable, there'd be a minimal amount of jobs left for humans to do them.
Gavin Garcia
You mean socialism? They're not synonymous.
Communism is much more extreme than a lot of people think: a worldwide society without property, states, classes or money.
Lucas Carter
How so? Automation of labor is the way the free market is moving.
Easton Foster
Not sustainable with full open borders. Just look at the welfare states in Europe, they are crumbling under the weight of millions of arab and african migrants who all think they will live in a mansion in some big city, and will recieve an endless amount of free money.
Kayden Davis
This faggot doesn't understand economics. Plain and simple. If you subsidize people this way we might find ourselves in an overcrowded world, which is ten times worse than "robots taking our jerbs" and "gibs me monee"
Christian Wood
`>be in an artistic field >people tell you to get a "REAL JOB™" >these same people are going to lose their REAL JOBS™ to robots >you won't lose yours
Look at us, WE have the real jobs now.
Samuel Nguyen
it'd be simple, only allow people who are citizens of a county to claim in said country, and it'd either be you become a citizen or GTFO, or it'd be you can only claim from the country your birth was registered regardless of immigration status.
John Hall
Graphic designer here. It would be the ultimate irony to see labour workers you know who have told you about getting a "real job" your entire career irretrievably losing their jobs to robots while you still get to keep yours.
Jonathan Sanders
Government spending is an injection to the economy. Just because government spends money (in this case with basic income) doesn't mean taxes will increase. You can cut other programs because taxes are a leakage. Government could also do other things to increase income too besides higher taxes. The point though is the fact people are gonna lose jobs in the future and it's kind of inhumane to throw people to the curb who onced contributed to society. Capitalism destroys itself but the post-capitalism world won't be socialism or communism but transhumanism.
Benjamin Parker
It's not an outlandish concept.
The fact of the matter is, no matter what you make or how you price it, there are only so many people who will buy it in any given period of time. You don't want to be manufacturing more than that number, because the excess will go unsold.
The key about automation is that it allows us to make the same number of products while reducing the number of workers needed to do so. Effectively, manufacturers who are automating can meet all demand for their products while only employing and paying a smaller amount of people. As automation becomes commonplace, manufacturers are still fulfilling all demand for their products, but far fewer people are being employed by them.
Now, this becomes a real issue if those people who are no longer employed by manufacturers cannot find employment elsewhere. After all, the demand for those products produced with automation stems from people having money to afford them. If fewer people are working and have money to spend, the demand for those products will fall. Then, the manufacturers will need to produce less to meet demand, and downsize production. This will result in even fewer people being employed, further lowering demand and causing the cycle to continue.
A universal basic income stops this cycle by ensuring that the people who are unemployable thanks to automation still have money to afford a reasonable lifestyle and still contribute to the demand for goods and services in the economy.
The real question is where does the money come from?
Adam Campbell
Immigration would end once robots take over shit tier hard labour jobs. The only reason politicians accept immigrations (well here in the US that is) is because they are cheap as fuck labour. When they are no longer needed the wall will literally be built with a moat full of nile crocs. Robots actually might be the savior for nationalists of the US, Europe and Japan.
Hudson Smith
Europe immigration though for us Americans seems really weird. The Africans and Arabs seem to not work at all and just live a NEET life. I honestly think the EU politicians accept these shiskins based on social identity politics and not economics like American politicians do.
James Anderson
End game of capitalism really. If you don't do the UBI or something similar, there would be no jobs left and no money to spend on stuff to buy. The economy would halt. Where as small tax on robots, artificial credit system, would boost the economy.
Xavier Collins
Dam, we're running out of jobs.
As a middle school dropout working at wendy's at 25 this worries me.
Connor Walker
Are we-- are we really in late-stage capitalism?
Evan Cruz
Affordable sexbots when?
Gavin Watson
What happens after late stage capitalism? Is the world going to switch to national socialism? Hitler too hated capitalism.
Mason Miller
Communism will never happen after capitalism. Transhumanism is what will occur. Read up on it. Humans will effectually be to robots what chimps in a zoo are to us. We take care of chimps in the zoo with no return. Robots will basically run everything with humans taking a step back. This will really get going when AI intelligence surpasses humans because robots evolve insanely fast compared to any biological creature.
Nathan Hall
so fucking tired of hearing this fuccoi 's discount apocalypshit opinion on everything
Angel Sanders
you'll change tune when you're out of work when a robot takes it over.

no worries, his job isn't immune either. he's predicting his own demise.
Juan Morgan
he isnt wrong about it though. Capitalism inherently strives for efficiency. Humans are inefficient.
Lucas Rivera
i'll be fucking happy if robots replace 4000% of jobs, neet life best life
Levi Carter
You say that now but ask any NEET on /r9k/ and they view their life as worthless. A job can actually boost moral in a human because they feel needed.
Ryder Sanders
Female sex bots would be assaulted full force by feminists. It would be attacked as an embodiment of rape culture, etc.
Ethan Peterson
Though with the advent of VR coming now I imagine people will just hook up to it and never leave it.
Xavier Green
The idea of living without having to have some sort of income for everyone will never happen. in fact, anti-welfare will become more of a thing as robots take over more.
Charles Nelson
Irony of feminism is that in the long run it pushes for a more masculine run society because feminism causes less births to happen because marriage and hookup culture are destroyed by them. The births that do occur result in more males being born because men are born more than women for some reason. This pushes more men than women in society. Now add in the immigrants from machismo and islamic countries which push for less women rights. Its like a cycle almost. You go through instances of hyper femininity to hyper masculinity.
Mason Morgan
explain how so? You are saying the people who have no job and no hope of a job outlook will become more anti-welfare? Those jobs aren't coming back, ever. Robots will cause goods to become cheaper (in theory) so the cost of living will go done so basic income in itself would be less than welfare is today.
Tyler Flores
>Government spending is an injection to the economy. GTFO keynesianshit. Where the hell do you think money comes from?
Ryder Carter
not my problem if people can't decide on what to do with their life if someone doesn't tell me
Brayden Morales
Government spending has a multiplier effect Ms Rand. Government can actually make more money back then it put in...you know how all businesses are run. we call those things profits in the private sector.
Oliver Wright
You make the assumption that what one person does with his life is only effecting his or her life, like we live in a bubble. If massive unemployment happens with no way to relieve how these unemployed people will live then you will have massive riots and anarchy which results in the downfall of the entire economy. BAsic income is tough to swallow but its better than anarchy.
Camden Morgan
i am not sure where i said i am against basic income or anything, i think you might be mixing up posters
Gavin Rivera
I can't wait for the poetry based economy senpai.
It's not like creative works need to be popular or anything. It's not like creativity is pointless in a world where every man and his dog is a painter full time.
Landon Reyes
Creating art will be overtaken by 3d printers. Acoustic music is already replaced by digital means. The robot voice box fixes all defaults in human voices which can lead to no human voice needed at all. Art is gonna die too because people wont need someone else to create art for them, a robot can do it by simple inputs by the person. VR is a good example.
Zachary Reyes
Truly foolish if you think your profession can't be automated and or marginalized.
Ryan Butler
Those people probably have no fucking ideas about technology and what it can do i guess.
Jeremiah Perez
How can you be sure the AI paradigm of the future employed won't produce only same art?
Jaxon Robinson
>b-b-but muh human creativity guys I can never be replaced
Zachary Powell
I fucking love going full welfare state
Brayden Ross
well, Capitalism evolves into Communism so... I guess we're seeing Marx's theories realize.
Cameron Ortiz
>The real question is where does the money come from?
it would have to come from the pockets of corporations and manufacturers, at a very steep rate. it would go back to the government, to keep the cycle going.
i guess technology would have to hit an advanced enough point that there would no longer be a need for workers then, so that the fat cats and producers would not be upset by the high taxation.
nothing else makes sense, otherwise if the gov continued to distribute cash then inflation shoots up
Connor Ward
boy do i have news for you friend...
Brandon Mitchell
Don't worry, AI will be able to create designs far more beautiful than your Sup Forums-addled brain ever could.
Julian Reed
From what I've seen the main problem with machine learning AI is that it performs well on paper but has no self-awareness. It may analyze a huge dataset of paintings and generate something that looks like a painting in a 50x50 pixel thumbnail but I just don't see it being able to create an actual, high detail painting with clear objects and not just a blurry, smudgy, mess.
Until an AGI is invented art jobs will be fairly secure I think.
James Nguyen
no, it doesn't. Read Transhumanism. Marx never knew about robots or that they could someday become more intelligent than humans.

I still don't understand why we didn't automate 90% of factory jobs, it really would of been easy.
Carson Perry
Art jobs already pay shit. If other job areas get eaten by machines with "arts" being untouched that will already mean more competition. I wrote "arts" because as of now most art is shit and not artistic at all.
Cameron Hill
Everything is based on math. Equations can tell the AI what causes the human brain to release pleasure hormones from an image. Hell thats how pop music is made. Art isn't something that is outside of science and math like you hippie artists like to think.

Because we did.

We will all be artists. Because robots can not do art. And we will all consume each others art. For money. :^)
Matthew Parker
>Everything is based on math.
That doesn't mean we will have the processing power to deal with all the math anytime soon though.
Isaiah Garcia
To employ immigrant labor yes. But the costs are being driven done for machines to takeover. Native borns are hella expensive with wanting salary raises, paid vacation, sick days and retirement benefits.
Ayden Gray
It's still the answer to why businesses do not go full automation.
Matthew Garcia
Greed would have to end. Ain't going to happen like you think. The wealthy would find ways to kill off the poor so they could have more. How hard is it to imagine all rich powerful people deciding they have enough money or power?

The EU open border policy is named after this Dutch right-wing politician.

not now but the thing about the future is that its never can be put off. Its inevitable.
I can assure you that not all "cultures" are equal in beauty. One man's garbage is another man's treasure. AI can easily tweak the equation based on individuals. It's also broken every 5 minutes and a sad attempt to be like Sup Forums, they have little original stuff to call their own almost all of it is borrowed from Sup Forums or another imageboard. Plus it's infested with redditors and normalfags.

It's trolling, you should be smart enough to know that you cant possible consume as much art as 8 billion people would need to produce to earn the money they currently do.
Wyatt Taylor

Jeremiah Scott
>It's their kids and grand-kids who don't work.
And don't forget the newcomers.
Adrian Sanders
but that answer is getting less strong as years go by.
Like i said in other posts I have neever seen or heard of European immigrants ever working ...ever. I could understand wanting immigration for cheap labour but the africans and arabs seem to be allergic to labour. If they don't work then they are a drain on the economy which makes no sense for a Right Wing Capitalist politician. I can only assume immigration in Europe is something done by white guilt Leftists or Scots who think its funny to punish the English with shitskins.
Nolan Martin
I'll bet if you made a robot generate some random "art" and say it's from a famous artists people would pay good money for it.
Caleb Thomas
That us if we don't become cyborgs/robots first, if we think about this from a utilitarian perspective. Self preservation from obseletion will drive us to reach a compromise between abolishing rapid advance in AI for the sake of "humanity" and allowing ourselves to become chimps. The only out route is to become the fast-evolving computer creatures ourselves.
Andrew Taylor
No she doesn't. She's a neocon in disguise, and if you think you're being 'mature' or 'moderate' by voting for her, you have no idea what you're getting into. Also, nice try on the communism thing. You have no idea what communism is.

Pop music today. Computers are used to "fix" human voices. You don't honestly think Beiber or Rihanna have great natural voices right? In the future there won't need to even have a human to input a base voice for the computer to fix, the AI could do it itself.

I don't need robots for art. I go to the trashcan, pick up some shit and call it a day after putting it in a corner. It's a representation of the sufferance of saharan feet washers women during the early expansion phase of the iticuacua tribe thanks to their discovery of spears in 1700.

No, your not thinking about it right. Sexbots are very pro-fem. Isnt emulation the highest form of flattery? After all. Your not objectifying females, your feminizing an object.
