How to plot something like pic related in gnuplot without having to manually create a huge ass .dat file? its a simple raising curve that reaches its maximum at a specific point and continues to be maximum for some time, nothing special, could be done in photoshop too, but I am too retarded to make it look clean with any tools available.

My Ethernet-Controller just shows up as "Ethernet-Controller" in devices manager

How do I find out which Ethernet-Controller I have so I can download the right driver?

how do i git gud with networking related stuff?

is there a guide for wannabe sysadmins?

i'm a relatively experienced C programmer, so anything will help

I'm on University internet, how do I get more bandwidth and a better connection as a result of it?

How can I make my computer priority over others? Its impossible to play steam gaymes even though speed test is pic related. Its not my computer, I play without lag on any other connection.

...

How can i generate a US number and then use it on google voice?

Hey lads, I'm probably gonna get sarcastic answers for this, but I'll ask anyway. I found an iPhone. Looks like a 5 or 5s and I want to return it to its rightful owner. How do I go about this? It's not connected to the internet and its password protected.

Bring it to an Apple store, Jamal.
They will contact the owner.

Man finding iphones a bitch nowadays, you can't reset it or whatever so end of the day it's useless, should have left it where you found it

I will buy Lenovo ThinkPad Twist with i5, 4gb ram and 128gb ssd. Is there anything I should know or am I gonna regret?

My BenQ was giving me an error "incorrect cable" before I got into windows (made using the bios a pain). I reseated the cable and it seems to have actually fixed it. Does this mean the cable is dodgy or do you just need to reseat things sometimes?

Well I found it at work on the windshield of a coworkers car by the wipers. The coworker is black and the phone is in Spanish so I'm pretty sure it's not his and I don't know anyone at work who speaks Spanish. I guess I'll just wait for him to get back and ask him if he knows who it belongs to.

go to police

Maybe this thread is the right place to ask.

Where did all my space go? I have an 8GB 2nd gen Moto G. With time, my storage space just DISAPPEARED. I used to have almost 4GB of music. I only have one 100MB album now because i've had to delete everything else and I have no idea where all my space went. My guess is somehow Android OS updates all get stored on the phone and the old data doesn't get deleted after the upgrade?

Is there a way to get it back?

I got the issue
"local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration" when i moved, i think i didn't shut off properly. but when i started it at the new place the clock kept getting out of sync and then lose connection.
i have plex and run utorrent 2.2.1 and those get interrupted around a certain time or something.
it's a weird problem but it keep happening and i'm not sure what happened.
desktop only has ethernet port and laptop i have next to it doesn't have those issues. none of these things happen to anything else but my desktop

I want to buy a Bluetooth dongle to try and connect my Wiimote to my PC. Should I just buy the cheapest one or is there any real benefit to buying one of the slightly more expensive ones?

What's the easiest way to set up dual boot with Linux and Windows?
I did it before but it was a ballache to get the booter to recognize Windows.

I'm a complete idiot so pls no bully if the answer is obvious. I was getting a segmentation fault for one of my C programs, so I figured I'd compile it with -g option so that I can debug it with GDB. For some reason compiling it that way 'solved' the issue. It's especially annoying considering I know I still have a bad memory allocation problem but now I cannot make use of the debugging program.

How the fuck does compiling with -g changes the executing of my program?

*raises paw*

What's my bottleneck?

>GTX 1070
>i5-4460 @3.2GHz
>16 GB DDR3 RAM
>Z97S SLI Plus mainboard (I used to run two cards in SLI)
>Crucial CT256MX100SSD1

It's the processor, isn't it.

I'm realizing there are no variable length arrays in C++.

What am I supposed to use instead? I have a class that represents a strip of LEDs, with the number of LEDs defined at construction. I want an array to store the colours of each LED, but apparently I can't create this array without knowing the length before being passed it. What's the right answer?

You called?

That doesn't even count as a clue, c'mon.

I'm currently trying to put my laptop back to factory settings. It's Windows 10 and I've used the reset tool. It's currently saying
>Resetting this PC
>Getting s few things ready: 100%
The loading dial next to this is also frozen in place. For reference, it has been frozen at 100% for around 5 hours. Task Manager shows around 5% CPU usage, 55% Memory, and %0-2% Disk.

When will this shit actually reset?

How do I alleviate the bottlenecks of old software that only uses one core? IE: Old games like Rome Total War

E3 1231v3 or i5 6600 for video editing?

I installed ubuntu 16.04 recently and can't connect to my router. Neither wired nor wireless. I know my wireless card works as I booted into a live debian and it worked. When I boot into live ubuntu it doesn't work either. I tethered my mobile network into ubuntu and it worked. Any advice? I'm desperate.

check for "additional Software" in the ubuntu menu
you might find those drivers there.
if not, look for instructional info on how to install your wifi/ethernet drivers for linux. Google the motherboard name if needed

...

the cheap ones are ok, I bought one for a few dollars from dealextreme like 10 years ago and it lasted quite a while before it broke

expensive ones are pointless

Pls. I just want advice. I will leave Sup Forums forever if I get an answer.

starfish don't have paws

your cpu and gpu are both quite decent
ram is more than adequate
motherboard is somewhat irrelevant to general system performance
if your ssd is functioning normally (good r/w speeds, no health issues) I don't really see an issue

I'm gayming at 2k and 144Hz though. Most games I can't reach those 144 frames.

I have a WNR1000 v3 router how do I go about installing custom firmware for it or finding out if it is supported?

How do optical disc motors adapt to the slight differences in the mass of discs?

figured that might be the case

the latest high end i5 and a 1080 would be better suited for high fps, high resolution, high quality gaming

but I can't imagine your experience being that bad with what you have already so long as you aren't going crazy with antialiasing and ultra textures and lighting

literally just google it

chick single core benchmarks of the latest intel cpus
anandtech should have some useful benchmarks.

for example anandtech.com/bench/product/56?vs=1544

My arch Linux finally crashed after running fine for about a month. When I start up my laptop it goes to a black screen with backlight. After setting "nomodeset" in the boot line it hangs after the 1 min 30 countdown

you're fucked

install something more stable

hope you have another computer at your disposal

install a real distro like debian you fag

the xeon scores higher on benchmarks
go for it if that is the route you wish to take

single thread scores are the same pretty much

That doesn't tell me a whole lot, where do I start with installation or getting it on there?

also if you have the money get the E3-1230 v5
it's the same speed but it's socket 1151

Gonna buy a domain for email. Which of these naming schemes is best

[email protected] (would be my only address, .co.uk is taken)

or

[email protected]
[email protected]
etc.

I will probably end up buying both lastname.uk and firstnamelastname.co.uk, just wondering which email address looks best

Where do I look to get a good value for money mid-high end TV?

can I change hdd on x220 with any ssd?

can you read??

if you can't handle this step of the process, you're either going to brick a router or give up just looking at instructions

Are there any TVs around that are just huge computer monitors?
By this I mean that I prefer something relatively dumb, without a tuner, a smart-tv interface, and a big remote control etc.

Already have it, but it doesn't block shit on streaming streaming sites, they still open a new window

I have a modem with router function and an actual router. Can I plug the router to the modem? It has two antennas.
I don't have a computer but can access the router page with my phone. Thanks

I have a 40 inch avera tv (from amazon) it's pretty basic and cheap, no issues with it.

in the menu set it to monitor mode (I think, there's two modes and one of them makes it look "normal" or relatively unmodified colorwise)

malicious ads trying to fuck you huh

I don't have much to offer since I don't use shitty sites like that

though I'm sure there's a list of filters you can add
just google it

it's possible you might be able to disable the router functionality of the modem

does any ddr4 ram work on any ddr4 motherboard?

generally speaking yes if you're looking at ddr4 ram and ddr4 motherboards on a site like newegg

just don't get ram that is not supported speedwise (for example 4000mhz ram prob won't work on a board that specifies 2133mhz)
don't get ecc ram
if you're paranoid see if the motherboard has a qvl list you can verify compatibility with

In Javascript, if a function has three parameters, how do you pass a value into only parameter 1 and parameter 3? Problem in question:

function SetCookie(cname, cvalue, exdays) {
var d = new Date();
d.setTime(d.getTime() + (exdays*24*60*60*1000));
var expires = "expires="+ d.toUTCString();
document.cookie = cname + "=" + cvalue + ";" + expires + ";path=/";
}

function DestroyCookie(cookieName) {
SetCookie(cookieName, ???????, -1);
}

i installed oss on arch, ran the install script, rebooted and got no sound... mplayer would just exit on mp3s. why

Did I cuck myself by getting the MSI Z170A SLI board instead of the MSI Z170M Mortar?

The Mortar is $30 cheaper and while it doesn't support SLI (which I don't need) it has two more USB ports on the rear panel.

When I was shopping I wasn't looking at any MATX boards because I was planning on getting a full tower case and the tiny mobo would look silly inside it. But now my plans have changed and I'm looking into smaller cases, some of which I'm locked out of because my board is full ATX.

oh yeah and ossxmix gave "segmentation fault"

Teaching yourself to code is pretty simple and there are lots of resources, but what about teaching yourself about networks and other computer stuff? Where do I go?

I'm having trouble organizing music in foobar2000. In some albums, I will have a song tagged featuring two different artists, which is fine, but the problem is that sometimes it will knock the playback order of the music out of order. For example, when I send a collection to the queue to start playing, it will group the music by album (folder), but list the music from artist first in alphabetical order instead of by track number. What this causes are situations where track number 13 will be the first song to play instead of track 1 just because the song in question has multiple artists.

What settings in foobar2000 will allow me to tell the program to put the music in track order first instead of by artist? I checked mp3tag and it says the track numbers are properly placed.

Why does my CPU get to ~60 C idle after a month or two or being completely fine and running everything good?

Local Area Connection Doesn't have a valid IP configuration.
Sets my clock off sync and the rest of my internet goes after.
It started when I moved and started computer and clock was off sync.
What do?

Can someone just give me a link to the Basic tutorial for installing Cyanogenmod in a device?
It's an LG G2, but, i don't need it specific, just want to learn.

Is there any other X1 other thank x1 carbon??

What's the actual difference between:

1) Adobe Photography subscription with Photoshop CC (12 euros a month)
2) Adobe Photoshop CC individual app subscription (24 euros a month)

This is starting to feel like a scam. Why would anyone pick 2?

What happens if a GPU is plugged into a PC that cannot provide it with enough power through the motherboard? Most non-plug GPUs can pull up to 75W through the mobo, but what happens if the mobo can only provide 35W? Will the GPU's performance tank, or will it damage the PC?

Best tutorial for Matlab?

the GPU will throttle at certain power levels
it wont even work if it doesnt have the 6-pin or 8-pin connector plugged

Well I'm referring to cards like the 750Ti and it's ilk. Would it be possible to weld a pin connector onto them to provide it power from the PSU? My friend has an old BTX Dell that has a Q6600 in it, so he can only fit single slot cards. But most cards are dual slot mostly due to the fan, so I wonder if cutting up a small 1060's bracket would be a better way. Of course, shy of getting an all new computer.

How does auto-tune shift frequency in real-time?

I was told it was impossible to create an analog circuit capable of manipulating the frequency of an input signal in the time domain such as an equalizer that is capable of shifting the pitch of whatever audio is input into it up or down in real time.

So does auto-tune shift frequency in real time or is it just smoke and mirrors with digital sampling and FFT done very quickly so it looks like it's done in real time but it actually isn't.

>Would it be possible to weld a pin connector onto them to provide it power from the PSU?
doubt it.
tell your friend to get an average 400W or 500W PSU, or get a molex to 6-pin adapter so he can use a more powerful GPU
I doubt you would have a problem with a gtx 750 in a normal motherboard anyway!

Here's the thing, it's an old Dell Optiplex, and it uses a BTX motherboard, and thus BTX power supply. So will it work, or is he SOL?

>So does auto-tune shift frequency in real time or is it just smoke and mirrors with digital sampling and FFT done very quickly so it looks like it's done in real time but it actually isn't.

I want to try os x in virtualbox, where can i download a working version

what are the good torrent sites these days? looking for the K-On! movie but can't find it anywhere

Do you mean networking or do you mean sysadmin because they are different jobs unless you are in a tiny company where your networking guy is also your sysadmin. If you want to do networking I'd go down the Cisco route and grab a CCNA book and start reading. What you learn from the CCNA will transfer to any other vendor with relative ease once you pick up the vendor specific syntax for commands.

I can't really say much about the sysadmin side since I've never tread that path, but I'd guess you could learn some valuable skills by trying to set up your own servers like a media server or a email server for your house.

What's the best way to build a home server Sup Forums? Is it to buy a used computer of Craigslist and add more storage?

I can get a used i5 8gb ddr3 w/ 250gb & winblows 7 64 for $100.
