literally who?

Is it bad that I hear a little electricity coming from my laptop charger? It's like a little noise that can be heard when pressed against your ear, however it is still noticeable in a quiet room. It's a Lenovo 170W 20V charger

AMD RX 460 = 100 or under
Nvidia GTX 1050 = 130 or higher

Are those ~30 bucks worth it? I know the 1050 is a bit faster but 30 bucks are 30 bucks, also I can get a 4GB RX 460 for about 110 dolla

In every Linux distro I've tried so far, the backslash/pipe key (US keyboard layout) makes the < and > symbols. Am I missing something?

if it's happening only recently, it could mean your charger is about to die. My bet? you're being paranoid.

Well, it's the first time I've noticed the sound. This charger is also kind of new, got it maybe 3 months ago

is nofap real?

Given a list of files, how can I give this list to ffmpeg as input. All the shit online only gives me a file glob pattern which doesn't work for my situation.

Maybe, but you should try just avoiding porn and Sup Forums and just wank with a vibrowand when you feel like you need to, which shouldn't be more than 2-3 times a week.

Are antiviruses worth it yearly?

I don't torrent much no more, just browse chrome websites.

use a free antivirus, like avast.

Stop pretending to be retarded.

i feel like i should be getting better fps out of my r9 390. is there a way to find out if im bottlenecked?

In my old dell that the family used to have, the computer used to just completely freeze and would not be able to do anything until you manually shut it off. What would cause something like that to happen?

If you use adblock and don't download from shady ass sites then you don't really need one
if you really care that much than just use avast

If your CPU is AMD, the answer is "yes"

so if its intel im probably not bottlenecked?

tell us your ram/cpu.

>If you use adblock and don't download from shady ass sites then you don't really need one
You should still scan periodically

I don't know what shitty game you're playing.

That's A-Rise you fag.

How do you SSH into a linux VM on a windows host computer from a different computer on a different network?

Going out of town and my laptop isn't powerful enough to run a VM of its own. Don't want to miss out on a week's worth of pay just because I can't get some work done.

>I hear a little electricity coming from my laptop charger

i5 6600k
16gb ddr4

No, I'm a rise
if you know what I mean

Anyone ever had success trying pic related?

Basically, I'm in a residence where I can't access the router. I've got the SSH server working, and I can connect and set up tunnels. The only annoying part is connecting to the FTP etc server. It works from the SSH server but not from the laptop.

I'm using PuTTY and a tunnel with remote -> local port and I checkmarked "remote ports do the same" but no luck.

definitely not bottlenecked. Consider getting a new GPU.

You need to have networking set up right so the VM has its own address instead of sharing one with th host, port forwarded, preferably external other than 22. I have external 55555 forwarded to internal 22. So there's not continuous login attempts cluttering the logfiles. set up other ssh security stuff.

What's running on the VM? Could you not be doing it locally on your laptop with git and such?

A human can understand what they mean.

Depends on what your emulating, but easiest is probably just to do a NAT and port forward.

Here is where you want to look in virtual box. You'll need to also make sure you port forward from your router to your host as well, so that you can reach it from internet, not just local network.

Why do people not like java here?

I should also add that if you're behind a dynamic IP this will be more difficult obviously as the IP may change while you're out.

i have Arch on the VM. I have a base model surface pro 3, with a 1.5 GHz i3 and 4GB of RAM... i could work from it but the other engineers don't trust windows.

I would just get a new laptop that's better, but i can't really justify the cost of getting something decent when I mostly work from home.

Every program I've downloaded that uses java is a bloated pajeet piece of shit. I really have no hate for java in the abstract, but in reality it is bullshit.

It's probably okay for server side business logic, though. But it is haram for application code.

Every year I say to myself "this is surely the year VR becomes mainstream" and ever year I hold back from upgrading my PC anyway. Every year I've been proven right.

If I don't give two fucks about anything beyond 1080p on a primary monitor and another 1080p monitor to play videos and such on while I grind, is a 1070 the way to go - provided that VR doesn't in fact catch on next year?

Forgot you'll also need dynamic dns running. Why not install a text editor and git on the laptop?

mosh.org/

improves on ssh a little when internet not lan

i have git and vscode on my surface, but for testing purposes apparently there are some differences between running the site on windows vs running it on linux.

It's going to be several years before VR is anything more than a gimmick, same with any new technology. No sense waiting for it, and being an early adopter just means you get shafted more often than not. Just build your PC.

i should add that i've gotten everything up and running on my desktop in windows 10, so I'm aware that everything works, it's just that the other engineers would rather that everyone use linux when developing.

You may eventually have a bf and want to play games with him split across both monitors? Why not escape that operant conditioning chamber and grind real life abilities?

>bf

Pence is gonna solve the fuck out of that problem.

I've run headless VMs on less than that. Should be plenty powerful if you access it by SSH instead of having it draw the text.

Mike "Suck a Cock; Get a Shock" Pense

Why should I get the 8gb RX 480 instead of the 4gb RX 480?

Pissmark says you should get the three jee bee GTX 1060

What monitors do you have?

It doesn't matter what monitors I have now, I'm going to be using this graphics card for a few years and anything I get probably won't push it enough. I'll have a 1920x1200 monitor at most, and two or more other ones at lower resolutions.

Why?

Nevermind. I found out how.

I just need to set "GatewayPorts yes" in the sshd_config and restart the service. It works now.

Does LazyTown, the setting and namesake of the best anime ever, have a population of only nine, or are there countless other residents who just don't get any screen time?

Within a template/form some guy is building in that an uploaded photo has to scale to 2 or 3 inch width.
this is the error he gets.
next post i will upload the photo that he tried to resize.

if someone knows why it went wrong pls add email il paypall you 15 euro.

this is the pic they tried to resize

Why isnt there a solar charged phone?

I have an old 5.1 system that I use as a 2.1 because I don't need the surround sound

I've had the subwoofer volume at 0 for months because of a rattling noise it produces and just now realized I've been going without one. It's pretty bulky and I'm trying to figure out a way to get rid of/replace it with something smaller as I'm not huge into music.
I'd prefer something that could use the speakers I have (as shit as they are, it could be cheaper).

Are the interfaces universal between systems? Meaning, could I just get a different subwoofer and plug my existing speakers in?
Is there even a market for very small subwoofers or at the least something to connect the speakers i have to my PC?

It would take longer than a day to charge if shut off the whole time.

The phone would be charged with a usb like any other phone, the solar part is for emergencies like those old calculators but stronger

Get a pair of bookshelf speakers. You'll probably be satisfied without a subwoofer when you finally have woofers. They connect to an amp or receiver by bare wire, so no connection compatibility to worry about there. You need to have other connectivity for subwoofers since most are self-powered.

Solar power banks do exist. For several years. Have you even looked?

So like solar powered battery banks?

cell surface area versus cell draw etc. Maybe if phones had a barebones OS for literally emergency cellular activity only.

A solar panel over a 6" phone would generate at best 3.5 watts, probably more in the realm of 2 or less, and add significant bulk to the phone.

I think itd be infinite battery life if the sun waves are strong enough, but that's how my mind work

Well it would require your phone to be face down so you couldn't use it while it was charging, and it would charge slower than normal usage would drain it, it would take up weight that could be used on a bigger battery, and you'd have to leave it in the sun to charge making it heat up and lower overall lifespan of your battery and other components, and add significant cost.

>Sun waves strong enough
>Can literally kill a phone if left on a dash
>Solar panels efficiency reduces in heat exposure
>Battery efficiency reduces in heat exposure
>Phone efficiency reduces in heat exposure

It's a great concept, doesn't work though.

Are some of these Mandela Effect people potentially dangerous? Should I be notifying the FBI?

Great, thanks
Audio equipment is pretty foreign to me, but it seems like that's the best choice

This is really quite stupid, I guess... But oh well.

So I've just plugged the 3pin direct power to my motherboard's integrated amp for better sound quality.
I notice quite a difference on my speakers (which are connected to the mobo's I/O). But am I supposed to notice a difference if I connect said speakers to the case's frontal audio output?

I was trying out manjaro with xfce in a VM today to see if I could get it to my liking; as I was considering putting it on a laptop. However this battery icon refuses to match the theme, everything else on the task bar seems to change except the network monitor and battery icon. How can I fix this?

how do people whitetext on Sup Forums?

>whitetext

Is this what you mean, memelord?

no it's when you use meme arrows >>>
but the text doesn't turn green

>mangina

Never done it myself, but I assume it's using some kind of zero-width space.

>testing

hah, nope, that wasn't it.

>Razer Blade Stealth, 512 SSD, uHD screen, 8 gb ram
>MacBook Pro 2015, 13 inch, 16 gb ram, 256 SSD
Which one will be better for university lads?

thinkpad t420

Can I use a Thinkpad for gaming if so which model would be best/recommended

>Drag a file over a folder to open it
You know when you drag a file over a running program icon in the taskbar and it opens the program window, I want to be able to drag a file in explorer over a folder and have it open that folder. Any way of doing this?
WIN7

You can use a calculator for gaming

I have the same speakers, they have rca connectors. You could get an amp and just plug them in.

Touche

Everytime I have the need to ask this question /flt/ isn't posted.

So, whenever I press my left alt button (I do a lot,) my cursor freezes and acts as a scroll wheel which is annoying because I don't want to use that function at all! How do I disable this without unbinding alt altogether?

I'm on debian using xfce. Basically pressing alt and moving my mouse up and down acts as a scroll wheel.

I have dead pixel in my monitor or so I thought but it started fucking moving recently. I've had tiny white mites crawling over my tower occasionally could a tiny bug get behind my IPS screen or some shit? This is spooking me out goddamn.

How to figure out what drivers are missing or not compatible?
I've been having slow read and writes on a USB 3.0 port until I discovered that it's driver weren't even installed.

i'm installing ubuntu on a virtual box and its saying i have to erase my disk, and talking about formatting partitions. since i chose the option of using a virtual disk, does that mean my actual hard disk wont be touch?

Maybe the bug entered inside your screen and is still alive?

for XP: start -> right click on "My Computer" -> "Device Manager"
for win7: start -> right click on "Computer" -> Device Manager"
for win8: right click on the start button -> Device Manager

No, after you get past that, you will see that the drive name is something like VBOX. Nothing will touch your main hard drive if it's inside the virtual box.

Unless you wanna install that guest thing in VirtualBox where you can transfer data from your computer to your virtual machine.

Do you know if there is anything I can really do in this situation. I don't want to smash it because then its carcass will be in the corner of my screen forever. I mean it must have been attracted to the heat or something do you think there is any chance that if I turn off my monitor and leave it for a week the bug will find its own way out?

>for win7: start -> right click on "Computer" -> Device Manager"
Thank you for replying.
I know Windows itself includes drivers, but.
What should I do if most of the drivers installed are "generic" drivers ?
should I install the manufacture drivers or use some driver finding software like speccy?
It's a Lenovo G50-80 laptop by the way.

>speccy
what? that just displays statistics.

Go to Lenovo's website, click on "support" find something that lets you type in a model number or other ID code, holy shit I know this is a stupid question thread but this is "using the internet 101"

Not sure, you can try turning it off. The important part is, how expensive is it? Do you have a backup one while it's off?

You can try pliers (the small ones, forgot what they were called at the moment) but I'm not sure about it.

Though, if the bug is inside the LCD screen from the back, it will be hard taking it apart just for a bug. Someone suggested online to wait for the bug to crawl higher and to squish it so it won't be noticeable.

Sorry, I meant is it better to use the windows generic drivers, or use manufacturer's driver?

I have files on a local network share, but I want to make a folder on the share that's only accessible by certain devices how would I do that?
Running windows 7

Alright user I'll watch for it to go to the corner. If I can't squish it through the monitor with my hands I guess I'll just have to wait until it chooses where to die. Anyway thanks.

Considering getting the iPhone SE this month. I like to keep chat logs, and I was wondering if there was a way to download iMessage history onto a non-Apple computer

Try to find where the permissions are for each folder.

Whichever ones are updated and bloat-free. But I think they will be the same. Though, windows updates will give you the regular ones. In the case of graphics drivers in most cases, windows update will fix it by installing the old one (they never update it) because if the update breaks it will download the old one and fix itself. You should always find updates if you want to consider performance. Like, a lot of people download the updated graphic card drives from the manufacturer website instead of the computer distributor website.

Check if Apple Store has an app called "Super Backup" It performs call and text message backups on android, but not sure if it exists for apple products.

Thanks.
I just installed the USB 3.0 drivers, and the chipset since the internal HDD was mounted as removable media.

There are two drivers that are missing, I guess one is for the webcam and the other for the SD card reader, won't be bothered to install it.
And since the generic driver for the intel HD 5500 are working fine and outputting to both the HDMI and the VGA port I see no need to change that.

It's been a long while since I used windows so I forgot most of these stuff.

The laptop belongs to my sister, she bought it, and someone in the shop told her that "windows 7 doesn't need drivers to be installed", then came complaining that the USB 3.0 is slow.

pls help

AHAHAHAHH I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT OFFSCREEN BY PUTTING PRESSURE NEAR IT TO SPOOK IT IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION!

HUMAN INTELLIGENCE WINS AGAIN!

Anybody?
