Organizing files after a year of just dumping everything into one folder

>Organizing files after a year of just dumping everything into one folder
I knew I should have been more organized.

>just fucking wipe everything
At least I am able to keep documents and such organized.

I know I should do something about it.
But not today.

>just fucking wipe everything

This. I think I could fit everything worth saving on to a DVD at this point.

hello i just came here for waifu

Sorry user, it's actually a husbando.

hydrusnetwork.github.io/hydrus/

Why is this still a thing

>Tfw I've accumulated over 70,000 images after years of browsing Sup Forums and have not bothered to organize it in the slightest way

Every time I open my images folder it takes like 5 minutes too

because gays

I'm the same, but at least screenshots are organized; 20k isn't that bad. Also, Windows file manager is trash, shit opens up instantly with thunar albeit I can't search with it like I did on Windows.

Ok, why are gays a thing then?

Because we refuse to treat them and instead tell them they're fine.

i didn't watch this show, why does he wear the dress?

>have 2TB of free space
>only use 300GB
JUST

Because for whatever reason, otakus love guys who dress like girls. Sup Forums is full of them.

He's a big guy

he's programmer afaik
for some reason, nips like to think programmers are deviants

>draw a female character
>say it's a male
lmao

Nips hate change. It's common for them to still use windows 2000 to this day. They're autism in human form.

I thought I was the only one

I've been meaning to organize them but I never end up doing so. I don't even know how many duplicates I have!

...

That's because japs don't run out and buy new appliances every single year when their old one works just fine.
Notice how I used the word "appliance". A computer is considered an appliance, and not something that needs replacement.

are they? or are we?

in eu/usa, every sensible person upgrades every ~4-5 years - even normies (although that's mostly because they think they have to buy new laptop instead of cleaning windows startup list). thousands of dollars spent on electronics we don't really need, our needs are created artificially by devs making use of all of this power that even average joe has in his smartphone or laptop.

Meanwhile nips simply don't use any gimmicks, and so their very own ugly as fuck moonrune internet works flawlessly on properly overclocked 8086. they don't waste processing power, they just live on with their pieces of junk and it totally works for them.

also, you don't need much processing power to display bunch of doujins

I just save downloaded files in monthly folders with the exception of music and video that contains episodes.

Studies have shown that tag+search is much more efficient than a folder-based hierarchy. The problem is that most file explorers have slow-as-shit searching and people don't tag their images, partly because it's tedious to fully tag an image without an automated/scripted assistant.

>nips like to think programmers are deviants
But they are.

>g/a/rbage collector

what's the title of this anime?

gachaman crowds

it's about internet memes influencing society
also fight demons or whatever i forgot

Sup Forums is as bad though. Look how much "poorfag" and "luddite" is thrown around.

It's okay, a cute crossdressing coder is enough for me to watch it, thanks!

>folder named 'stuff'

how do I into hydrus

it's always so slow

Same here.
For the love of god someone recommend me a Linux based tagging/ sorting system better than hierarchy and file names.

>'to sort'

I bet like half of my D drive is downloads I need to clear out and organize... wish me luck

Just write yourself a command line program using the sqlite C libs.

Jesus I wasn't exactly wrong. ~300GB of downloads to organize, plus shitty desktop and document organization to deal with. FUCK

>'not porn'

>what is a symlink

Seriously though, something like booru/hydrus for general filesystem would be nice (ie people sharing tags for file hashes in some sort of botnet -= most of your shit would be autotagged).

Eat a bag of dicks, Kevin.

You too Anonymous. You too

but we are deviants...

i recomend it
the op is god tier

save me

yep

How much does this whore charge

>keeping files

Why do you care so much for immaterial things?

I used to organize my memes and cute anime bitches etc but now I think it really is just better to have just one folder (at least just while you're saving shit). If you have everything organized then you're probably going to be hesitant about saving certain images just because you'd have to make a new directory for it that might as well end up only having that one image until you or your hard drive die.

I lost my massive collection of pics when a HDD died since I ignored the clicking and pretended it wasn't happening so I wouldn't have to buy another drive. I feel like it was for the best, if only for making the whole thing more streamlined.

Where else would I keep my cheese pizza? on a dvd?

>Linux has no decent file tagging systems
>Linux has never had a decent file tagging system
>Linux will probably never have a decent file tagging system

Who's this cocker spaniel

...

:(

I need to have a sense of "I have this stuff that I like. And its mine and mine alone. Nobody can take it away from me"

If I lacked anything to give me that sense of permanence I'd be unable to enjoy anything. How could I enjoy it? It'll be gone with the wind soon, leaving me alone again. I'd lose my motivation to continue living.

Rude

Get raped and kill yourself, you retarded fucking faggot sack of shit with down syndrome.

what a waste of quads

The situation on Windows isn't too much better. There's official support for tagging via metadata, but you can't do it as you save a file from e.g., the web browser. You have to do it manually. You can save (tagged or otherwise) searches though, which allows you to get rid of regular folders and simply use metadata as a folder.

WinFS, which was part of project Longhorn and was supposed to ship in the early 2000's, was a filesystem built out of relational databases. It would have been really kick-ass. Too bad it was abandoned because if there's one thing Windows loves, it's backwards compatibility.

Is this for real?

It's exactly what I've dreamed of.

Open source is a beautiful thing.

Bubuki Buranki

Hydrus is severe autism inducing and slow, nothing you can do about it.

It is still worth the while if you're a booru/pixiv aficionado.

I have about a terabyte of JAV in a big unorganized directory called "sort"

I oughta get busy on that one of these days.

TagFS

what about zenbooru?

I too download everything to a sort folder, then like once a week or so, fire up gnome commander and put stuff where it goes. a dual pane filemanager makes it much easier and quicker, especially once you've got the keyboard shortcuts down

nice blog post

kill yorself

>tfw no fully rdbms-based filesystem where all folders are just shortcuts for selection, sort, and other basic queries
>tfw no gmail-esque tag 'n search file manager
This future sucks, man.

Lol butthurt

>tfw the only OS with decent tagging is macOS
Why, why can't I have it? The amount of folders needed for decent organization is ridiculous compared to what tags could pull off. Having a great folder structure is awesome for archiving purposes, but man I would love tags.

Spoken like someone who thinks these things will always be easily reacquired. The dark age of sharing is coming, and it'll cut down our hubris as it takes the stage.

Physical minimalism is the same deal. Only the rich can afford to wantonly offload things.

What is this cute girls name?

What's the best way to do this?

hydrus

does that allow to seach/sort by W/H resolution?
does it allow for fast hotkey tagging?

NOBODY SAW THAT
yes and yes
use system:dimensions

yeah no I'm talking about W/H resolution, not width and height separated, that I can already do with explorer
and I'm talking about actual hotkey, not mouse selection
I have over seventy thousand images to tag, I want to be able to ctrl+shift+letter to tag fast

>Implying I'll ever get around to organizing, tagging, and trimming all my gigs of porn and music

you can do exactly both those things famalam

system:dimensions lets you do both at once
and the hotkey thing is actually a hotkey
>press a
>image now tagged anime

Tbh, my only place well organized is my music folder (because only 3 albums)
But my desktop have hiddens icons, and essentially serve as giant Drag and drop zone (I recover files at D:/Desktop)

I need to search for all images that share the same resolution with a 500x429 image
this means 1500x1287, 372x320, 550x471, 550x472 etc etc

system:ratio

Alright, thanks
Gonna test-drive it on the smaller folder first

>people can not see the man face.

Have you all been blinded with the brain of your dick hardening at the shape of what seems to be female?Do you not have any standards? Can you not the male face in this shit trap

dantalian

Uses hard links

>over two gigabytes of various stupid pictures, webums, reaction images
>everything in one folder
>somehow i still manage to find one i want fast enough
i have no idea how i do it, i think i remember approximate date of saving every useful thing

How long is it going to take to organize and tag all of this?

How about I reorganize your insides for starters?

haha
>hurr durr animulls do it! iz natural!!!
cause y'kno there's no such thing as sick animals, and comparing yourself to animals is somehow being twisted into being a good thing..

member when people would call people animals as insults?

I want to kiss her.

>itt people who don't know what traps are

It changes at 50GiB.

Is she a girl or a girl (male)?

>her
Good luck senpai

Leave it overnight. It'll either finish or crash.

Get an SSD moob

Just use WinDirStat... it's live and you can see exactly which files are taking up the most space. And visually too.

>mfw keeping everything in ~/Downloads

>not using windirstat
