Thoughts on Solus?

Thoughts on Solus?
Is it a good distro? Looks pretty sweet. Like a good Ubuntu.

fuck off Kevin

Ok

ignore the kevin comments. it is hands down the best distro right now. in a couple of months it will blow up on distrowatch

It's pronouced "so loose".

Fuck off Kevin

Yet you are not using it.

I used solus last year. It still needs improvements

shill

Never tried it, I guess I will try it out right now.

Just tried to install it on a virtual machine, didn't work. Solus is garbage.

It does work on a virtual machine, but it is garbage anyway. OS is made for total noobs.

then what OS to use

What's going to be the next flavor of the month distro?

Arch Linux.

Can we start banning this threads?

...

>he does it for free

Just use ubuntu or debian like a normal human being with a job.

Alternatively if you're a NEET use arch.

Seriously, pick any of the 3 listed and stop trying operational systems like they are a pair of socks.

It's the best distro! Simply the best!!

Kek

how much are they paying you for this

Guess what, Ubuntu is getting an official Budgie version. So there's no reason to use Solus.

...

...

...

install Solus

p.s. fuck off Kevin, your distro blows chunks. Budgie is a piece of shit and the package manager sucks ass

Enjoy your NSA backdoor, cucks.

dumb kevinposter

Install solus

hey kevin, how about making it so that the whole ui doesn't shit the bed when you try to change anything other than wallpaper?

also half the shit I use isn't in the default repo. 5/10 meh

It's good for normies like me that came from W10, that's it.

Two questions:
Who is Kevin?
Why is Solus being shilled so much, along with bungie?

Solus is indeed pretty good

Solus is already the daily driver on my main rig for several years now.

Now fuck off, we don't want your kind here.

kek'd

>used in 2015
It's November 2016

Someone posted a screen fetch of solus and his name was Kevin i think.

CURRENT YEARRRRRRR

Enjoy your NSA botnet.

>mfw Sup Forumsoblins don't know what solus actually is

>Thoughts on Solus?

>BUT BUT BUT I KNOW IT BETTER arch abomination

yeah, nah.

> solus
> 'alone' in Latin

Makes one think.

It's a really good distro.
Absolutely destroys the competition at most things which is why it's getting so much hate on Sup Forums.

These basement dwelling morons hate good shit that works well and enjoy broken shit that they need to fix up themselves

...

Why fuck didn't you shoop Kevin's face onto Bond while you were changing the text you piece of shit?

I read that Solus is one of the only distributioms to use AVX2 instructions, the other being Clear Linux.

If I have a i5 that doesn't have AVX2 can I still make use of what my CPU has?

>Thoughts on Solus?

This is the saddest meme attempt I have ever seen

Fuck off already, your distro has no packages and Budgie doesn't have workspaces.

Don't really give a fuck about solus because it has fuck all momentum behind it, but who even uses workspaces? I've never needed them

What do you use them for?

I installed Budgie on a fresh arch install yesterday for the hell of it.

I had it gone in fifteen minutes. It's like a roughdraft of a DE. There's no settings menu aside from a side panel and shit it steals from gnome.

So it's basically a really shitty cinnamon.

Neo-Sup Forums...

>Like a good ubuntu
>Linux Mint kind of beat Solus to the punch there, Kevin.

Good Ubuntu as in it's not using Ubuntu as it's base, but it's own separate thing.

it works on VMware and virtualbox on my machine.

Ubuntu is a bloated piece of shit.
Solus is the fastest distro out there.
news.softpedia.com/news/solus-linux-os-boots-in-1-2-seconds-488033.shtml

You gotta be fucking kidding

Installed it last night on my T420.

It's pretty good but it needs some polish and more packages before I'm willing to trade it for my main OS.

Yes.

It uses what it can, if your cpu doesn't support avx2 then it leaves it disabled.

That isn't fast.

...

>budgie has no workspaces
Yes it does.
Stop lying, a quick online Search is all I needed to check your bullshit claim is false.

>Linux mint
>better than solus
Nice try satan

>total noobs
So people who enjoy a working and functional OS?

Ehh. I tried it, but DrRacket was broken as shit so I dropped it.

>Like a good Ubuntu
Lol! Exactly it. A shitty distro.

>Solus
Oh look, it's another taskbar/start menu DE

I hope there's still enough space in the trash for it

>good
>shitty
You failed high school English, didn't you?

budgie-remix.org/

Fuck off Solus shills, we already took your Budgie.

>build a shiny car
>someone steals the fender and puts it on his car
This is where open source gets you.

Or as I have started to call it, GNU Theft Auto: Open Source

Was having a pretty shitty day, thanks for the kek bros

Souls will make linux great again

If you want a shitty Unix with shiny DE you may as well just settle on osx.

Solus is so much more than just a DE.

>Linux == Unix
>Linux is not Unix
install budgie/bsd

>BSD

people got tired of shitting on arch so they're looking for some reason to hate a not-so-big distro now, so when it gets kinda big, they can say they hated it before it was popular

stop hating on people for having opinions, user

They also hate it because they don't like things that just work without needing any considerable effort and looks nice otb.

Their only skill is being able to install Arch so it physically hurts them when others use a distro that's easy to setup and use.

Budgie could still use some work still, but Solus has great potential.

oops, meant
Alright, I'll stop posting

Just tell me you cunt

>and looks nice otb
>souls

nigga what the fuck are you smoking?

Just use Ubuntu and put Budgie on it.

You can already use Budgie on Ubuntu and it runs fine.

Solus purportedly boots much faster.

But you get access to much more software on Ubuntu.

Choices choices

>can't spell Solus
Idk what he's smoking but I'll have some of what you're on.

Not just boot. Everything loads much faster on solus, you'll really feel it on weaker hardware with slower r/w.

From the moment I press the button to the login screen is like 10s on my HTPC, and my boot drive is an old 150GB raptor.
It feels as fast as my laptop which is running Ubuntu MATE off an SSD.

>can't spell souls
Idk what he's smoking but I'll have some of what you're on.

This is with my hulking configuration on a 5 year old laptop.
X220 ~ » systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 4.570s (kernel) + 5.365s (userspace) = 9.936s

?

>cant soul spells
idk were have you're on of but i'll smoking he's what

I tried Solus out for myself.

It was resource intensive, lacking in repositories and the UI was stupid.

I didn't hate it, though. I didn't start to hate it until Kevinfags started shilling it nonstop.

why the fuck do solus threads appear so often

it's fucking arch with a DE

who fucking cares

>resource intensive
Runs fine on my d2500, which makes me think you never actually tried it...

>Arch with a DE
LOL NO.
It was built from the ground up buddy, built from scratch.

been using it since release, pretty comfy. I don't consider myself a ----PoWeRuSeR----, I just write small C programs because I'm learning, also browse the web, and play some OpenTTD.

it does that perfectly, its software center is decent although it could use more soft.

but it okay

8/10, could be a 9 if they fix some of the shitty gnome-related bugs.

Oh I felt it alright.

My shitty 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 with 1.5GB of RAM REALLY felt it.

It felt like shit.

I used to shil.. I mean use this all the time as a kid!

And grounds to this or are you just shitposting?

Source?

>n270
There's your problem.

Being lighter and more efficient than other mainstream distros doesn't put it on par with tiny core plus.

This

Yup

Can budgie maximize apps into a new workspace like OSX? I fucking love this feature on OSX but none DE so far can do this.

I feel bad for kevin desu
