but they don't do software development.

they develop games, characters specifically

they don't develop games or characters specifically, they do nothing all day besides being cute

Is this how weeaboos who watch chinese cartoons all day in their basement think daily office job is?

The accurate description of software development would be a bunch of people sitting in an office building and typing on the keyboard for 9 hours with someone occasionally uttering profanities at the computer monitor.

Silicon Valley is how I imagine it is at the best

Which is awful

So I can not imagine how it is at the worst

It's one of the comical sketches in the BDs of Shirobako. The actual anime's art isn't like that at all, but it's about the same stuff and you should watch it.

Lots of people mumbling to themselves also.

but the picture is accurate in white males claiming work that is not theirs.

Actually I'm white and I'm a full time developer.

Not in the US though, but I wouldn't imagine it to be too different.

not really

you spend a lot of time
1. discussing architectural/design questions with other devs/analysts/architects
2. working together with QA to make sure no serious bugs occur
3. taking part in agile planning/stand-ups and so on
4. just shooting the shit with coworkers

a full day of pure programming is rare

thanks user

The sad thing is that a full day of programming would be extremely productive once all the relevant requirements and architecture have been figured out for that sprint/module/snapshot, but that never isn't unlikely because of (4).

really hate 3, utterly convinced at this point that 90% of coding projects are just done by a core team of people who know what the fuck they're doing. the rest is just memes
