Sup Sup Forums, so I been really Into the idea of VR, and the vive going on sale this black friday, do you think it'll be worth it?

I have one gathering dust. Right now it's not that interesting.

Due to lack of games available? What do you have powering it?

I'd really only want those goggles for porn, but then they'd probably be like a fleshlight where you use them a couple times and then just fap normally

i7 6700 + gtx 1070
there are no games, just "experiences" that entertain you for a few hours
the novelty disappears quite fast
I would reccomend waiting for the second generation of these devices

>there are no games
Elite Dangerous

Also Serious Sam VR

Serious Sam VR is addicting. Like seriously.

I was wondering, is the Vive like mobile VR in terms of picture quality? like I'm currently using the Daydream headset and the quality of video is not crisp at all. Is the Vive also like that?

>I would reccomend waiting for the second generation of these devices
I have a Vive, and would recommend the same.

In saying that, it's really mindblowing how good this is. I do not regret my purchase at all, and every single person who tries it (no matter how much they say shit like "VR IS JUST A GIMMICK!") is completely blown away and loves it.

However, as good as it is, there's a lot of room for improvement, and Gen2 will be so much better than Gen1 in so many ways. Obviously it will have higher resolution, better ergonomics, less hardware requirements (due to foveated rendering), etc etc etc

Just wait, unless you're rich or JUST CANT WAIT (which isn't true for you, or you'd already have it)

I haven't bought one because I know I wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost, but I feel a bit ashamed that I didn't financially support the technology.

If there are not enough early adopters, VR might fizzle out, and that would be sad.

just wait till smart contacts come out and make ar a reality, google and some other company is coming out with them, vr is going to be blown out the asshole with smart contacts come out perfectly.

I was thinking about getting an OSVR HDK2 but i figured there is such a lack of content nowadays that the joyout moment from getting one would be too fleeting.

It varies a lot depending on what phone you're using, also the Vive uses two displays (one for each eye). If you have the Google Pixel the resolution would be similar to that of an Oculus DK2, but the Pixel XL and Moto Z should be on par with the Vive.

I bought a VR headset. Now I have a job working for a VR company. Best purchase ever.

I've had a Vive Pre since February and a Rift since launch, as well as owning the DK1/DK2 and GearVR Innovator Edition. I'm a huge supporter of VR as an emerging technology and I love it to death.

That said, I agree with these posts. The software isn't quite there yet and even though the tracking hardware is amazing, the display side of things leaves something to be desired due to resolution. I'm a bit of a minority here in that I use my units very frequently, but unless you're ready to deal with the downsides of early adoption I'd recommend waiting for gen2. That said, if you think you're interested enough to go for it despite the shortcomings and have the finances to not be ruined if you're disappointed, absolutely go for it. Without a large adoption base, there's little reason for software developers to make AAA titles and target a gen2 in the first place, so these things could use all the support they can get.

Also Fallout 4 is getting a full port to the Vive from Bethesda, and all memes aside that's pretty cool

I just upgraded to google pixel xl for my upgrade, the daydream vr is way better than I thought, I tried the vive about a year or two ago at comic con and as far as I remember it's about as good as that with some games, though I am probably miss remembering the graphics quality of the vive the daydream vr is very good for a mobile headset, I'd say it's about oculus dk2 standards

I've never actually tried Daydream, how does the controller work?

You can only rotate/swivel it, theres not tracking for movement along the x/y/z, it works really well, sometimes it drifts bit you just hold a button on it for a few seconds and it quickly recenters

It honestly makes the mobile vr experience 100% better, feels a lot more natural than the gear vr having to stair at everything and tap the side, would love 2 controllers,

If they added roomscale to it which wouldn't be too hard with lighthouses and a pad of tracking stickers to put on the controller and headset then it would be a good contender against the vive, the quality is very good, I'd say as good as psvr, possibly better, roomscale would make it very worthwhile cause normies could buy the phone and have a good vr experience thus widening the vr audience for better games and support rather than letting vr die as a gimmick

My friend bought one when he graduated from school. He used it for a week or so and I haven't seen him use it since. I was going to as well, and playing around with it is cool, but at this stage in the game it just seems gimmicky. Nothing that interesting in terms of gaymen seems to be available yet. I'd like one for watching porn, but I can't justify spending that much to basically have a fancy masturbatory experience.

The thing is with VR is you need more than just a monster PC and VR goggles. Otherwise, yeah, it does seem like a gimmick. Roomscale VR is just a bad idea from the start banging into walls, coffee tables, pulling on the cord et cetera. You need an omni for stand-up VR and from what I hear is that they still aren't that great yet. Also there still is no position detecting gun controller unless you want to make your own with a discontinued Hydra or the way overpriced STEM System.

However if you like racing or flying and you have a decent wheel or HOTAS setup VR is fucking awesome. We're close but it seems still like so far. Devs need to program with VR in mind.

One thing I have yet to try with my Rift CV1 is Skyrim, I got it working really well with my DK1 but now the CV1 with Oculus Home just really kills it for me. One curious thing I noticed is that using a sword or whatever melee weapon just felt odd. I started using a bow full time when I never used one outside of VR

When do you guys think second generation VR is here?

I was sceptical about all this VR shit until I actually tried it at a party. That shit is so immersive even with the shitty graphics and shitty games. I played this cartoonie looking office simulator and I almost fell over trying to lean on the virtual desk.
