THE END OF FIREFOX NEAR !!!

Mozilla planed to remove support for XUL extensions in 2017. Time to search for alternative.

Farewell Memefox
Hello Brave Browser

Not only xul and xpcom, the current sdk will be removed too.

THANK YOU BASED MOZILLA

Now everyone's browser will be fast without shitty badly coded add-ons/extensions slowing it down

Usually I don't ascribe to malice what could be incompetence, but this is clearly a conscious effort to kill firefox.
Like the only reason people still use firefox is the addons, and they keep hammering them.

Literally who uses addons? Addons are just bloat.

Good, another bunch of fucking retards like (You) leaving firefox.

The userbase keeps getting better and better.

>sent from Microsoft® Windows® 10™ using Edge™

The fuck is XUL and why should I care?

Classic Theme Restorer is now doomed.

Press F to pay respects

>Time to search for alternative.

Firefox users hate themselves so this is actually a welcome change to them since it gives them something else to keep running their mouth about whilst doing nothing about to fix.

And some parts of the sdk are still "experimental" and they switched to jpm not long ago, cause the sdk was the future of extensions.

I've ported my xul extension to the sdk (with a bit of xul for some stuff the sdk can't achieve) some time before webextensions announcement and now I'll have to port it again and think a way to avoid/remove the xul part that can't be done with webextensions, I'm not sure if i want to maintain the extension anymore.

>adblock
>no script
>HTML everywhere

Here's hoping more extension devs start developing for Chromium instead

>HTML everywhere
kek

Lel.

just use Firefox ESR until the gimp that. the consumer release has been shitty for awhile now

>he doesn't use HTML everywhere to block all CSS bloat

I currently have two fallback options I'm watching: qutebrowser (when it fully moves to webengine and start supporting Chrome extensions, and assuming native python extensions will compare in power to firefox ones, at least to some level), or furrybrowser (if qutebrowser doesn't hold up to expectations, or firefox dies earlier than it's done). Does anybody know how fast palememe is compared to firefox?
The reason is simple: my main extension is Pentadactyl, and I honestly only want to save that.

Just use seamonkey.

Pale meme is keeping XUL IIRC

It's the architecture that enabled, among other things, extensions to dramatically change the user interface, ie. what made Firefox desireable in the first place.

XUL had to go. WebExtensions are vastly superior.

This is good.

even seamonkey is better than firefox, that just shows how deep in to the shithole firefox went, seamonkey is basically the old netscape/mozilla code, it has been kept updated but the features and UI is still the same

Your browser is so complicated that you have to limit it with extensions. So you fight bloat with bloat. Isn't that backwards?

Install text browser.

captcha: 1,2,5,7, primes and 1.

Nobody cares about your captcha, you can stop doing that now.

>removing the only thing that makes Firefox worthwhile

>year of the lord 2016
>still using mozilla chrome

Isn't Pale Meme just taken out old FF code with no new features?

Is this on Nightly already? Or why did many of my addons brake day or two ago?

just use Pale Moon

>there are people still using vanilla firefox instead of one of the many superior forks
who /cyberfox/ here

>no 64bit version
It's shit.

64bit isn't advantage in most cases

>No e10s

Why don't they just make a Chromium fork at this point.

>just taken out old FF code
No. While it was originally based on the ESR version of Fx, as Fx began diverging more and more from its older versions, so did PM diverge from the original Fx codebase.

>with no new features?
As far as the end-user is concerned, yes.

>people keep using firefox because it is not chrome
>mozzilla tries to make it more like chrome

won't most popular addons just be updated to fit the new format?

By update you mean completely rewritten?

Also, I don't think webextensions can affect the browser as much, so NoScript would be kill.

I doubt the new platform will let devs do half of the things that could be done with XUL.

any forks that are up-to-date but won't get webextensions? pale meme is a no go for me.

>tfw qutebrowser is still not finished
Is ungoogled-chromium okay for privacy or is it another meme?

Only if you comply it for yourself every day

Even if its dead, it doesnt mean it`ll die.

Opera was killed about twice, and i am still using a zombie corpse that it is now for lack of better alternatives.

Isn't it full of security holes all over the fucking place?

Does this include the mobile browser?

>five years for the singularity
>there is people that still uses firefox

so what the heck am i supposed to use now?

m64.info/index.php/seamonkey-64-bit-download

I have a feeling all the forks are going to "die" as well since they're just custom builds of mainline Firefox.

So?

What the fuck!?!

>Replacing Addons with WebExtensions

I don't see the problem..?
Anti-Firefoxfags btfo'd

bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1247056
What did they mean by this?

WebExtensions.

So is Windows XP but people are still using that.

I want to contribute a funny little thing, guess what comes up first when you type unfuck Firefox on Google.

Uhhh, run your FF session w/o shitty badly coded add-ons/extensions...

>I don't see the problem..?
It means some addons will be gone.
No TreeStyleTabs
No DownThemAll
No Classic Theme Restorer

Hell, some people will say that those addon can be remade as WebExtensions, but I highly doubt it.

>Trying to emulate Chrome poorly has caused our market share to plummet
>Let's double down on being Chrome

>No TreeStyleTabs
So then what's the point of Firefox?

Exactly. It is as if FF, then Phoenix, decided to compete against Microsoft Iexplorer by being its clone rather than forging its own path.

Easy. Just dont update.
Im still using 44.0.2
Because fucktards removed the panorama/tab group functionality.

To the other fucktards who will scream "securrrrriiiity holes":
Use adblock with custom list, noscript and cookie monster, disable embedded shit like java and flash. And most importatly: dont open the you just won 20 million dollar ads/emails...

Until someone can show me proper, working alternative to the following Im going to use this outdated version:
Grab and drag that actually works with momentum (there is none in chome or not mappable to left click or no momentum/gestures)
Image zoom on right click + scroll without zooming the page itself, left+right to 100%
EASY Menu customization/editor to core levels. There is no need for any button that I dont use.
Double click for new tab on top
Panorama mode/tab groups
Proper download manager menu. Chrome is an idiot in this regard taking up usable vertical space instead of docking on the side

Firefox is on a deep downhill nowdays.

Instead of limiting the addons every browser should disable automatic installation by third party programs. Average joe probably installed the addons with his free porn downloader, and was not aware.

>Use adblock
LOL

e10s has still too many bugs

Reporting in.
Switched to it when mozilla fucked up my addons with one of updates (again).
I said fuck it and started looking for alternatives.
Tried all popular forks and stopped on cyberfox.
Migrating was super easy, I just copied my profile to cyberfox folder and broken addons started working again.
Using it for 6+ months now. Very happy with it.
The only problem is that you have to manually update it.

sasuga, sjwzilla

had to switch long ago because retarded bug reload pages 5000 times before it actually loads

XUL was made in the age when "sandboxing" didn't existed outside servers. They need to change if they want to make ff more secure.

Bunch of cry babies

> Not using Sup Forums X

Are you turkey drunk, famiglia?

> addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-groups-panorama/
There is a perfectly functional tab groups addon

- Sent from my Firefox Nightly 53.0a1 with tab groups

PALE MOON

>Hell, some people will say that those addon can be remade as WebExtensions, but I highly doubt it.
DownThemAll dev stated that it can't be made using WE API. I (personally) don't care about the other two, but I use DTA daily.

Chromium-based is not the answer either..

As FF becomes more and more retarded, Yiffy Moon grows in appeal and power.

I notice none on 52.0a2

>tfw the only decent, non-botnet, open browsers left are chrome clone written in python and firefox fork done by furries
I did not foresee this future.

why would you want a 64 bit browser?

Why would you want a 64-bit OS?

>Now everyone's browser will be fast tailored toward retards that don't belong on the Internet

Fixed that for you.

>seamonkey is basically the old netscape/mozilla code, it has been kept updated but the features and UI is still the same
Which is why Seamonkey is awful. I'd use Seamonkey if it didn't look and feel like it was last updated in 1997.

R.I.P. Opera 12.

Here's a free (you)

Good. XUL is a piece of shit. Ffox is being rewritten in rust and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

On a serious note, what do you all think about Brave? Good/bad? Good replacement for Firefox? What criticisms has it received?

The header "micropayments and better ads will give users and publishers a better deal." is throwing me a bit off.

>lets kill XUL
>oops there goes more of our market share
>what are we doing wrong??

you did not look hard enough

archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.40/contrib/seamonkey-2.40.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

They have discontinued the Atom/XP version since 27.0.

>tfw the Atom/XP version running on an older netbook prompts to update to 27.0

>adblock

>not ublock origin and umatrix
2014 called

Tree Style Tabs is XUL based. What browser am I supposed to switch to?

at least you know it is mature code :)

This. Personal computing became ubiquitous during the 32-bit era. Once 64-bit started to become widespread (main incentive to even go 64-bit is to be able to use more than 3-4 GB of RAM) personal computing had already jumped the shark.

Agreed. It can get a bit annoying having to update it manually every other day. I just stopped updating every update and just did i once a month.

An outdated OS by itself doesn't have much of an attack surface if the computer running it sits behind a NAT and cannot be accessed directly by intruders. On the other hand, vulnerable service clients which initiate connections and advertise their version are much more of a liability.

[captcha: jesus fort]

Is there any other browser with a Tree Style Tabs alternative? Its the only reason I am still using this piece of shit.

So then what's the point of your post? Extensions such as these are enhancements which run on top of a browser which needs to provide support for them.

Oh mama
Can this really be the end

I'm actually looking forward to this.

No seriously, what is the advantage? Even thinking there is actually one over 32-bit would just be a proof of how insanely bloated today's web has become.

>pale meme is a no go for me.
Why? It fits your requirements.

Palemoon.
