You're still in them

Everybody was nice to each other

i remember pirating the matrix
its been some time since then
i remember using the gba emulator
i had a lot of fun with knopix
have a level 10 steam account

Normies ruined it

this

It was a much simpler time

>tfw the vx scene is dead

Not much worse.

But at least there were less normalfags.

Porn was a lot better, MD5 blacklisting from search engines has effectively hidden a large amount of amateur porn that was otherwise openly available.

>2009
>age 14
>playing pokemon online with people on forums
>using youtube in 2007 when I was 12 and being little shit/playing gba games on my computer

Somehow I didn't end up here until 2012 when I became obsessed with anime.

This gave me PTSD

>early days of the internet
>2009

>i remember pirating the matrix

we watched that shit in a computer lab on my last day in 7th grade (1999)

some faggot in my class spent like 2 days downloading a 320x240 avi over dialup

youtube.com/watch?v=hWq4DWfrpu8

tons of original content, extremely obscure and weird but hilarious jokes, people behaving a million times more autistic than now
silly flash games like school shooting simulators
you'd download a song and find out its actually a picture of some little ukrainian girl getting assraped by her dad on limewire
people were much more tech and information oriented, ubuntu forums was super vibrant, everyone obsessed with programming/linux
edginess was on the edge, trolling people into suicides was the norm
i think im gonna cry for a moment

exploding barrels, exploding barrels everywhere.

>ubuntu

this thread is about the early days of the internet senpai, not the mid 2000's onwards

ubuntu didn't exist at any time you could consider "early"

RealMedia and frustrating buffer times , shockwave games, and ICQ

Man, I don't know if it was just because I was young and impressionable but when I first dl mirc and started going into non-retarded rooms it seemed like everyone there was a genius. So much good conversation that you don't really see anymore.

It was a simpler time. Back when the web browser wasn't 90% of what a computer was used for because dial-time could get pretty expensive real fast, so I remember saving a shit load of stuff as soon as I could, then hanging up, then reading/watching/looking at it offline.

>mfw I was part of a final fantasy vii fanfiction webring on geocities
>mfw archive team didn't get it in their mass download

Those were the days.

Having cyber sex with the hot grills on MSN Messenger.

Spending my days roleplaying in WWF E-Feds

Not everything was owned by facebook and google so pretty good

>2009
>14
user early days of the internet is before google

Youtube marks the rise of normalfag internet

Inbetween is realnigga internet

you sound like a 13 y/o Sup Forumstard.

And search engines were so crappy you'd likely never get the same results twice, even if you searched only a day later for the exact same thing.

>2007
cute

I've been here since 2005, and regret every single day.

> me

> be 17 years old

> 1997

> newsgroups

> fighting with a cock in newsgroups

> being called a troll

> having no idea what a troll is

> later finding out a troll is a term invented in newgroups

> proud

This

pic related was pretty reliable

>the days before altavista had its own domain name
>altavista.digital.com

>good thread, keep the smiles coming. Hayao Miyazaki would be prowd

>I've been here since 2005, and regret every single day.

Same. I've wasted over a decade of my life on this shit, but I can't leave. It's all been a complete waste of fucking time. It makes me so fucking mad.

I'm not going to leave though; I actually don't think I can.

>Send this chain email to 5 of your closest friends, if you get this email sent back to you twice by two of the friends you sent this email to something great will happen to you in one weeks time.

>there's people on this board who never experienced Sup Forums frames
For a blast from the past: Sup Forums.org/frames
Those were simpler times

...

Pretty much spot on. God have mercy.

>tfw you found Sup Forums at the start of 2006, just before it went to total shit

Comparing it to now is like day and night. I'd kill to go back to how it was then. Fuck, I'd kill to have the whole internet as it was then.

Oh gosh, the tech support memories are coming back

>tfw I still had dial-up during the Web 2.0 bloat craze
It was painful.

People actually coding their own websites in html. It was the only way. Under construction gifs.

Internet was expensive
We shared memes on on CDs labeled "Funny things 1994"
swf format was a big deal

>web pages with flash intros
Man am I glad those days are over

>websites that were ENTIRELY made of flash

EAT
SHIT

>speed text combat rp
>MSN chatrooms
>gay.com actually had a section for lesbians
>diablo II
>Ultima Online
>the original ccc.com
>Napster

My youngnet experience in a nutshell basically.

oh yeah, and some free sheet music website that I can't remember the name of.

>early days of the internet
>pirating movies

OFF MY LAWN

14.4 kbps AOL Chat rooms, webcrawler being the internet. after AOL turned to flat 20 dollars a month you couldn't even connect most times

parents switched to MSN by this time I discovered the actual internet outside of AOL and we flamed AOLers and people who didn't use Netscape Navigator

Yahoo! powered by google

few years down the line people start talking about the Game Boy Advance. I post about it on my geocities portable video game system page that nobody but me ever went to

>>gay.com actually had a section for lesbians

Remember those websites that changed your mouse cursor and had music playing in the background with all those whacky 90s gifs?

Still very much alive on tumblr.

dustindiamond.com

fuck off
i'm sad that aim went down too
was better then facebook
i remember the good old days when you could change your ip by pushing the button on the back of our modem

>not downloading 150MB avis of bad movies at 2kB/s

tumblr's website is garbage though, nothing but lag and gays.

>It's all been a complete waste of fucking time.

Welcome to my life in general. There's nothing that I love that hasn't degenerated beyond all recognition at this point.

i downloaded Smashing Pumpkins Today video and remember resizing the window and it would distort the image to fit the window, making them all fat or skinny etc

>Neopets
>Command & Conquer Renegade forums
>MSN messenger
>Limewire, Kazaa, Napster
>Mininova
>The Pirate Bay trial
>Newgrounds
>various flash game sites that got missed by the school filter
>watching Final Fantasy VII Advent Children on youtube in 240p 10 minute parts
>waiting for the next release of ZSNES with netplay

UUCP

>here longer than moot

What a failure I am...

i remember pre-www
it fucking sucked. internet became good in 2010s and 2000s you nostalgic fucks!

What a failure moot was you mean.

moot did nothing wrong

He managed to escape.

I'm still here.

He liked Asuka more than Rei.

>born too late to experience early internet
;_;

Meximoot was the admin we needed though

BBSs were always shit. But it's one of those cases were the quality is totally irrelevant to how good it was.

I miss Sup Forums dying every few months. Gave me some good break from this place.

Now we'll be lucky if gook will ever let this place die, seeing as it's his cashcow.

I used altavista to look up so much porn. Even after google in 99'

Sup Forums is like dorian gray. it just won't fucking die but its users are dead inside.

There was no social media, corporations weren't trying to monetize everything and normies weren't on it 24 hours a day. It was wonderful.

I don't think you understand the sheer magic of filling floppy disks with softcore pornography coming down your phone line in 1992.

>websites that were ENTIRELY made of flesh

You don't even know what nutella was, fuck you newfag weeb REEEEEEEE

>kazaa
>R@YGOLD

Everyone thinks when they found it was when it was good. And then there's the meme that it was never good cuz some fags love to be different or just dislike good fun. I'm sure it was better before I joined but I've seen it decline pretty far to the shit it is now over the years

>kazaa
>linkenpark-dbzamv.avi
>dbz_sailormoonhentai.avi.exe

I've still got a bunch of old AMVs that I got off Kazaa.

Final Fantasy VIII - Kryptonite was one of my favourites.

>should I buy a voodoo?

The only difference I've noticed is that we don't do fun stuff like the habbo raids anymore. Overall community cohesion and participation amongst site members has all but disappeared but intelligence wise this place is just as stupid as ever.

Then again now that this PC culture shit is a dying fad maybe we can start doing dumb edgy shit again without having all of the world's cry babies out for our blood.

You had to wait a lot

Not a lot of normies used the internet, so the userbase had much more in common with each other.
That's also 90% of the reason why 4chin became the complete shit it is today.

No fuck off racist

plenty of good conversations on IRC even today

what's your geocities page Sup Forums? DO you still remember?

1999 - I was downloading mods for roller coaster tycoon on dialup. Father grounded me for consuming too much data.

Golden days: 2003-2006 ADSL and wifi providers everywhere, unlimited data. Downloading all the shit.
Internet was mostly anglo so no cumniggers.
Sweating Pentium 4 on those porn flashes.

Cancer times: 2008 - now

here

I do remember and I'm glad its lost forever. I never want to read a single line of my awful fanfiction again.

Good joke. The second some big fun thing happens you can bet that reddit will be all over it and fuck it up, and since Sup Forums is so normie and watched like a hawk now a bunch of "news" articles and hashtags on twitter will pop up within a day and the fun will be over before it even began.

The joy of the internet back in the day was it was oblivious, and Sup Forums was a scary place full of jailbait, muddy dicks and injokes so deep if you tried to join in without lurking you'd get called the fuck out in seconds.

That shit doesn't happen anymore. People are too dumb to realise that being friendly and helpful to ever person that walks into a thread doesn't help integrate, it just allows retards to come in without opposition and wreck the fun for everyone. Lurking fucking worked, but Sup Forums is too big and too far gone for that to work anymore. Sup Forums has the right idea, even though I barely visit it at least I'm glad they hung onto that aspect of old Sup Forums.

I can only dream of using computers in the early days. Must have been good times.

My earliest memories of the internet were finding porn on it around the age of 6.

One site I found that fascinated me was biggaycock.com or something. And I could never figure out how to find it again because I kept spelling it biggayclock.com

>breaks out the MIDIs
that takes me back, had a good collection of them, downloading mp3's just took too damn long

Anyone else remember going on IRC and telling people your 8 years old and want to learn programming, and almost immediately getting 5+ PMs asking for your email address? Good times

damn nigga u gay

i had IE in "offline mode" more often than otherwise
the internet cache was more than just a little speed boost like i use it now, no, when i went online, i loaded up a bunch of pages, then went offline to read the content from the cache

It was pretty comfy.

...

>shockwave games
thank god that shit died

First sexual curiosity was big gay cock?

M8...

admittedly, seeing 3d games in my browser amazed the fuck out of me in the day

It didn't die, it's called steam greenlight now.
