I realized offline backups are "pointless" if some nigga stole them or my home burn so I need to store one in the "cloud" too
Is acronis encryption safe enough or should I use something else?
I could just create 1TB TC volume and store the backup inside but its a fucking bother, if acronis can't be trusted, any backup software with safe encryption?
Josiah Baker
Those are pretty farfetched senarios. Home burning is unlikely and "some nigga" isn't going to steal your external hard drive.
Duplicity and Duplicati are solutions you might be interested in for backuping up to AWS and the like. It encrypts before upload so the cloud providers cant read your data. Expect to pay like $20 a month i'd expect.
Lincoln Thompson
It's safe enough.
Juan Rodriguez
It's not the ``cloud''. We call them offsite backups. ``da cloud'' is one of those options.
Picture this: You got all your hard drives. You put them in the safe deposit box at the bank. You've got off-site storage. Great. It lasts about 5 years because the magnetism wears off over time.
Businesses use stuff like Amazon Glacier. Big businesses roll their own in-house version of the same thing.
Kevin Bennett
Use Boxcryptor with OneDrive. Discounted Office 365 cards and Boxcryptor combined are cheaper yearly than paying monthly for Google Drive.
The biggest reason why you shouldn't use TC/VC is because, due to the encrypted nature of the volume, when one bit changes, the whole file changes, meaning you'll have to sync the whole file again every time you change something.
Another reason is that uploading/downloading exceedingly large files sucks and/or is impossible.
Jace Robinson
Make a physical disk back up, always. It doesn't matter that it could be stolen. Make one with everything, then 2 with vitals (resume, family photos). Give one to your parents and one to a friend
Jaxon Lopez
Encrypt data locally with a key that only you control before uploading to a cloud provider.
If a feature of the encryption is that you can get your data back even if you forget the password, it's not really encrypted.
Charles Sanchez
why does this picture make me so mad
Brody Garcia
Nobody wants to steal your shit. If you're worried about fires, do what I do and purchase a fireproof safe for all of your important documents and hard drives.
Austin Clark
Because you have severe autism.
Evan Kelly
>why does this picture make me so mad Probably due to your location on the autism spectrum.
Brandon Wright
>worry about hard drives dying in a fire >put them in a fireproof safe >house burns down >at least I still have my chinese cartoons and gay furry midget clown porn
Ryan Perez
>worry about hard drives dying in a fire >put them in a fireproof safe >house burns down >hard drive get destroyed from water damage
Is it ironic that the water used to put out the fire almost always causes more damage than the fire itself?
Nicholas Barnes
Five years? Where did you get that one from? I use 20-30 year old conputers with hdds for nostalgia gaming and no problems. I dont think anyone actually knows how long a hdd lasts.
Also burn dvds

>DVDs
If you're super fucking serious about preserving data, get M-Discs.
Colton Martin
What if he puts the hard drives in waterproof containers inside the safe?
Jayden Gray
>I realized offline backups are "pointless" if some nigga stole them or my home burn so I need to store one in the "cloud" too
I think you'd have bigger problems than losing your anime if either of this situations occurred.
Andrew Wood
literally retard, 2 clicks || 2finger tap === same click
I don't get it, click top and bottom, I've never need top click or trackpad click
Isaiah King
she's right you know
Grayson Hill
Just host an offsite server for your backups.
Kevin Sanders
>Use Boxcryptor with OneDrive. Discounted Office 365 cards and Boxcryptor combined are cheaper yearly than paying monthly for Google Drive.
I already have the site to upload them for free and I have FTTH so uploading some 1TB backup overnight monthly is ez, I just can't trust them that is why I want to keep the uploaded version encrypted
I have a physical disc already
>Give one to your parents and one to a friend No such thing
Anyways I carry around a usb drive with a backup of my main drive with the "stuff" folders ignored the cloud backup will be mainly a data drive
>Nobody wants to steal your shit I live in a burglar paradise and my house is empty 10/h day
>losing your anime That stuff is in a couple HGST drives I don't even backup, just keep some SS to look at what the fuck was there if I ever give a fuck about it and the drives die so I can easily download watever again
I was seriously thinking about that My father in law is almost blind and I can just stuck some fanless little server on his home, since everyone here have 500/500 FTTH speed would be better than shitty amazon too
