You don't "fall for memes," you act like a fucking idiot.

Try installing the operating system on the SSD nigger

if you are that much of an idiot to have it running why don't u ask help from geek squad

Did you know you have to format the drive before use?

> He takes his computer to a repair shop

uh no I assumed windows would take care of that on boot, like how it formats USBs when you insert them.
I already had windows on the motherboard, shouldn't that detect an SSD?

>sending your SSD to a pajeet repair shop instead of using your warranty

4/10

Shit bait.

SSDs are nothing more than a Sup Forums meme. No one seriously uses them in industry because of the extremely limited number of writes. Also they cost a fuck ton more per gigabyte, and do not have the capacity to hold the entire operating system and applications for a modern computer workstation. The speeds are barely faster than 10000 rpm drives, especially when you consider the fact that most of your hard drive accesses are going through RAM caches anyway, you aren't going to hit the actual disk every time. The only thing SSDs have is *slightly* faster bootup times. But bootup is less than 1% of computer use time, so it's not really a metric worth optimizing for. Just hibernate your PC instead of shutting it off, or grow some pateince and wait the 10 extra seconds to boot up with a normal hard drive.

>uh no I assumed windows would take care of that on boot, like how it formats USBs when you insert them.
What? This happens only if your flash drives are corrupted. And even then it's not guaranteed that it'll actually be able to format them.

get the fuck out of here you've got to br kidding me
>10/10 I fell hard for massive bait

FUCKING KILL YOURSELF YOU FUCKING OBLIVIOUS RETARD

I HOPE A SWARM OF WASPS KILLS YOU YOU FAGGOT

>Sup Forums is now calling me retarded just because I didn't know you had to format SSDs before you plug them in instead of after
>wish I just stuck with my WD

4/10 had me going there for a while

OP is a faggot

10/10

Screwed it there, 4/10

How does it feel to be a total moron dude ? Like you are a clueless soul on this earth.

No hope for you or you descendants.

yes, Sup Forums is calling you retarded because of not knowing basic technology

You don't even know how to use Google for a SSD installation I hate people like you. Lazy fuck

I know technology, I've used computers all my life and I have created many commercial webpages.

I would never even think formatting before attaching a drive would be necessary, because it implies you have two computers available or at least some kind of enclosure.
I didn't even get a SATA cable, the thing just comes in a box with a warranty slip.

This has to be bait

>Plug in SSD to computer
>Format it and defrag it
>it's slower than my seagate drive

thank you for giving me a smile

So let me get this straight op you though the os would install automatically when you pug in your new drive?

Shit bait, don't even try again

no I already had windows this isn't a new computer I bought it for.
I didn't realize I'd need to format the drive in advance, I assumed either
A) the drive was factory formatted
B) windows would detect the new drive and format it accordingly

you're a fucking idiot. modern SSDs all have much greater reliability than HDD. Because of dynamic cell re-allocation combined with over-provisioning write cycle limitation doesn't even matter.

>I already had windows on the motherboard, shouldn't that detect an SSD?

Subtlety is not one of your strong suits.

...

and what about the limited load cycle count of HDDs?

enjoy your data loss during power outage cuck

Fuck OFF

Fuck me. Was Sup Forums EVER any good whatsoever?

Right now all I'm seeing is a bunch of complete retards getting mad in some other retard's bad bait thread.

Nice meme.

>defrag

>I already had windows on the motherboard
lovely

Troll thread but in college I once had a friend who bought a new hard drive and didn't know why it wasn't working. She had opened her computer case and put the drive in a bay and didn't connect it to anything. No it was not some sort of fancy plug and play case. She thought the act of putting it in the case would make it work.

50% of servers use nand, moron

op here

Just used google like u retards suggested and found an article saying i should scrub it before trying to use it

i opened it up and used dawn soap and scrubbed it with a baby bottle cleaning brush and put it back together and now my pc wont turn on

fucking Sup Forums memes jesus christ

Jane, stop this crazy thing!

Personally I've yet to get a SSD and while if/when prices are really great I'll prob bite the bullet eventually but not having one hasn't really taken that much away from my enjoyment of my computer for the 5 years I've had it. The computer usually stays on so the boot up issue is virtually non existent and program load time also isn't the hugest of issues. Not to put SSD's down I'm just saying the disadvantages of not having one aren't that bad that you can't really wait unless I guess you are used to SSD and had to revert back.

...

where the fuck did you think the os was installed on? (protip: don't say motherboard)

I'll give it a 7/10. It's definitely a little too obvious but I really want it to be real.

I didn't think it was on the motherboard I'm not that stupid, I just thought boot prompt had windows associated with it since when you switch motherboard windows needs to be reinstalled.
So switching drives would be like switching discs when installing a program.

I bought a ~60gb ssd for a decent price about 5 years ago and it made my boot time way faster but when I install something that needs processing power to it the program runs like shit. Small stuff like media players or web browsers work fine off the ssd but Photoshop or any games with 3D cause massive system lag and frame drops (they work fine installed on my hdd). Any ideas?
Also the fuck is this Hiro?
ssd doesn't effect program performance, retard

Failing to install an SSD doesn't make them a meme. It just makes you an idiot.

>8/10
>3/10

Made it too obvious, still, You're attracting Autists and Pajeets so I give it a 3.

every drive has to be formatted to the correct file format before an OS can use it retard

Hey guys I know this is a bait thread but I have an actual SSD question.

OK so I bought an SSD on Cyber Monday, the 1tb Samsung evo 850 for 250 bux, not a bad deal.

I have done the following.

Installed the SSD, only have sata 2 cables, my mini is trash and I'm getting a new one soonish so whatever

I turned it in on computer manager

I went to my bios and changed it to ahci

I went to my bios and made it the bootup priority.

OK so now I just need to get winblows on this thing, this is where I am not sure how to continue. See my HDD has 1tb of garbage and God knows what on it mixed with my good shit, I just want that to stay as my storage drive. I want my SSD to be pure and clean of that corruption.

How do I transfer my windows 7 from my HDD onto my SSD without bringing along all the trash that is also on there?

Thanks

Also have this question.

You do a fresh install of Windows.

Do a clean install on your SSD. Only transfer the files you need from the HDD or keep it installed for now.

>winbabby can't even install a new storage device
Sounds about right.

this

How the fuck can someone be this retarded?
>read >she
Suddenly I'm not surprised anymore

kek

Almost seemed like bait but now we know how fucking retarded you are.

Doesn't that delete all my 1tb of HDD stuff?

Or do you just mean fresh install on the sad? Wouldn't that prevent me from accessing my HDD?

>>Blue screen that looks like DOS
I guess you moron just took out the HDD, did install any OS on your newly mounted SSD and arrived in the BIOS when booting...

Nope, if you install it on the SSD it doesnt change anything on the HDD, you can still access all your files on it after booting onto Windows from the SSD.

*didn't

>Wouldn't that prevent me from accessing my HDD?

Not as long as you don't format the HDD in the process.

OK this brings me to my second question, which may be a dumb one... But how do I get my windows 7 installed on my SSD?

I don't have install disks or anything I did a download like 6 years ago lol. Is there an executable somewhere or a file I put on a flash drive / the ssd for bootup?

You either make a clone copy for the ssd or just install a fresh copy then copy over the shit you need and install the drivers.

If you're extremely worried about messing up your HDD, just remove it temporarily from the system, install Windows on your SSD, then reconnect the HDD (and delete the old Windows folders and other garbage).

i need to stop compulsively saving garbage, i have 1 tb hdd ful of shit too

If you put a bootable flash drive or a Windows disc in and launch into boot mode by pressing f8 or some key depending on your motherboard you can boot from the flash/disc, do an advanced install or whatever Windows calls it now and then you'll be able to choose what drive to install to.

can you just delete the windows folder and thats all? don't other secret shit like hidden files keep there?

...

But if you need to format it before plugging it in, how are you support to format it if the only way to format is plugging it in?

>used to keep every movie I downloaded, only rewatched less than 10% of those
>used to keep every game I torrented and never uninstalled Steam games after finishing them either

Realising that I wouldn't get back together with my high school friends for regular movie/ drinking sessions freed up an entire external drive of 720p YIFY rips and any halfway modern internet makes downloading games trivial.

When you install, before you do anything else, if it's a new drive always make about a 15GB partition of the drive for OS. Then make a 2nd partition including all the rest of the drive space. Leave the OS partition empty except for the OS, if you want to upgrade to a larger AND or faster drive later, you only need to format that OS partition while the other with everything else on it remains untouched.

I learned this the hard way.

>shitty programs that don't let you customize the install path end up flooding your OS partition

>not manually moving these

yeah but i have gbs of pics gifs and webms mostly from tits etc and random reaction pics and aspie shit on a folder, i should delete it all, i mean whats the point. my fapping video folder is good enough in case of electrical shortage

Are they even remotely organized with folders or at least descriptive filenames? If not, discard.

>15GB
big mistake, my windows 7 folder is 31 GB

I will not bother. 500 SSD GB will go for OS, 1TB HDD will go for data (porn, music, samples...etc)

i have a gif folder
webm folder
pics folder

its a mess inside of those and i never look at them but i feel like if i delete them, i will delete something i will miss lo

I'm just making up numbers, make it 60 and get a 3 or more TB drive, you'll be surprised how fast you can fill a 1TB drive in the age "we can't compress anything or else it gets easier for pirates with slow tubes to steal our compiled code."

Personally think that SSD are best suited for laptops (no mechanical parts, no problems) or in desktops used as the OS drive with few core programs. The user data should be stored on HDDs...

...

Stop making up numbers when you're trying to give advice then. You're like those noguns on /k/ that feel the need to weigh in on CCW threads.

SSD's are one of those things you think you don't need but when you ever had one you will always want to ahve them on every computer you are using, so don't spoil yourself hdd's until you have the money to buy one with enough space

You probably need the Documents folder from your user folder so don't throw away x:\Users from you HDD

>HDD is the loudest component in idle
>system has 2 120mm CPU fans and 6 140mm case fans

>tfw see this shitty bait in another thread only to find out it's this fucking fresh
Can you stop flinging your shit over the entire fucking board for one minute, you gay hippo?

If your SSD is larger than your HDD (A):
1. put your fucking HDD inside your computer
2. plug your SSD as an external drive with a $15 adapter
3. lsblk, locate your root partition and your SSD
4. sudo dd if=/dev/sdX of=/dev/sdX bs=64K conv=noerror,sync (a quick Google search could've given you this Archwiki page wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/disk_cloning):
5. turn off your computer
6. remove your HDD and put your SSD inside instead
7. boot

If your HDD is larger than your SSD (B):
1. check on Gparted you can resize your partition to smaller than your SSD's capacity (check the SSD's size against your partition by plugging it in)
2. if your partition can be resized to smaller than your SSD: do it, then do the A steps above, in the order
3. if your partition can't be resized to smaller than your SSD: delete files or change your SSD. You may clean your cache or stuff. If B2 occurs, do the A steps in the order. If not, give up, get a larger SSD, or install a clean OS.

Maybe it is time to try Ubuntu? ubuntu.com

or just use clonezilla

Holy shit dude please be bait
