Just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04. I was using the oss radeon drivers for my R9 270x previously. However I'd like to try out the amdgpu-pro driver set. Will it work with my card?
My lspci string shows the following 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Curacao XT [Radeon R7 370 / R9 270X/370 OEM]
I see support for Volcanic Islands cards but I don't see the R9 270x in the list.

When I go to logout in xfce4, which I sometimes do rather than using reboot/shutdown from a terminal, it takes like 20-30 seconds for the dialog to appear.
In that time my mouse is very very laggy and can barely move. Once the logout dialog appears it goes back to normal.
Anyone know why this could be/how to fix? Couldn't see anything with a quick search

Please avoid using the term “photoshop” as a verb, meaning any kind of photo manipulation or image editing in general. Photoshop is just the name of one particular image editing program, which should be avoided since it is proprietary. There are plenty of free programs for editing images, such as the GIMP.
