Your first GPU?

This was mine. Treated me well for 5 good years. Recently got a 1060. I'd like to know what your guys first graphics cards were.

Nvidia is ass

Technically my "first" was an ATI Rage 128 on my mom's old PC she handed me down, but the first one I actually bought was a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850.

Paid about $250 for it back in 2008 and I still have it in the original build which is now used to bring to LAN parties as an auxiliary PC to run srcds and emulators.

So it went:
>ATI Rage 128 by technicality
>Pentium 4 embedded graphics on an old laptop, again handmedown
>Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 pic related first actual "purchased" card
>Sapphire AMD R9 270X Vapor X
>Sapphire AMD RX 480 8GB OC
Then when Vega hits:
>2X Sapphire AMD RX 490

Well the computer we had growing up had some nvidia card in it from around 2002. It was probably a cheap card knowing my father. The funny thing is he installed the card but never plugged the vga cable into the card. So all of those years the computer was still using the intergrated graphics.

The first discrete gpu I've owned was:
>GTX 560
>GTX 560ti
>GTX 660
> R9 380

>nvidia goymforce2 pro
>ATI radeon x1650 pro pci-e (kinda big jump desu)
>ATI radeon HD3650
>Nvidia 9800gt
>ATI Radeon HD5750
>AMD Radeon HD7770
>AMD r9 270x

hd 5870
gtx 980ti

Creative GraphicsBlaster 4mb... And that was an upgrade from whatever pos Packard bell provided.

The NVIDIA 8800GTS. It still works to this day.

My first was an ATi Radeon 9800. It was awesome and stayed relevant for an absurdly long time, as did the Sempron it was paired with. I was very disappointed when AMD decided to skip the HD 9000 series in favour of their r naming. I was looking forward to buying a HD 9800.

Why do you think I'm playing at 4k via dsr? I agree the fx8350 is old as fuck and I'm annoyed amd didn't bother to make new Am3 socket cpus to beat the fx before zen came out

>Sapphire Radeon HD 3650

My first computer had onboard graphics (1999). Then my parents bought me a prebuilt one in 20003 with a ATi 9200.

But the first card I ever bought was a Powercolor ATi Radeon 9600 PRO.

Permedia really was way ahead of its time with multiple compute cores.

Just bought a 470X and I'm absolutely loving it. Polaris is a good thing.

Also not a GPU. It was not Radeon branded either.
>Voodoo2 - Pentium 3

>Riva TNT 2 32mb
Not a GPU.

Etc etc. You guys get the idea. My first GPU was the first GPU that was ever designed and branded as such. Geforce 256.

GeForce4 MX Integrated something. I had this from early 2000 up until 2008-2009.
Before that all I had was a 16Mhz CPU

My first real graphics card was GeForce 6200
Then GeForce 8600 GT
R7 250
R9 380

Didn't go through plenty.

>not branded as a GPU
>therefore not a gpu
great logic there.

> Ati Pro Turbo
> Ati X1550
> AMD HD6850
> Vega or RX480 soon

1. Nvidia riva TNT model 64
2. ATI HD 3450
3. Nvidia GT 630
Shortly after
4. AMD Radeon 380 4gb.

Imagine you'd want to make your own water cooler and had access to CNC machines. What would you need and how much would it cost

>Diamond Monster 3D =/= GPU
What? What else would it be?

You do know that a GPU is a made up marketing term by nvidia which has a specific definition? One of the requirements for a device to qualify as a GPU is hardware T&L. None of the cards in question support HW T&L.

Before Nvidia (and AMD) started creating GPUs, we called the device a video card. Or 3D accelerator, as was the case with the early Voodoo products that also required a video card that could do 2d to work.

The first one I ever bought myself for gaming was the Geforce 6800GT. My family had computers with dedicated graphics before that but I never picked them out.

In a PC I built, pic related.
>tfw too poor to buy a ti

I've got a Sapphire 9600 Pro in a Win98 rig, shit's pretty good

Are not the original cards a unit which process graphics?

>Muh arbitrary autism
Hardware T&L is simply arbitrary. A GPU only has to accelerate or process calls and manipulate memory specifically to display graphics.

Nice attempt at being an autist, but you should probably stop pretending to be retarded first.

Rendition V1000
vQuake FTW

You know what else is arbitrary? The term "GPU". Nvidia pulled it out of their arse.

i had one of those voodoo cards
then i got a radeon 9800 pro at some point

No lie my first ever GPU was a GTX 970.

I have had Computers before but all were pure outdated trash. I never had much interest in the internet until recently (Few years back) I always had consoles and shit as well.

Post 2012 Card
>5 good years

Yeah sure

Geforce 2 MX/MX 400

>some novidya 4 series card
>novidya 7600gs
>Intel iGPU

Wtf we're re in 2017 now.

First one I purchased personally was an MSI GTX 770

Geforce 4 Ti
6600 XT
8800GT
HD5770
HD7770
390X

>Cirrus Logic 1MB (P1 60MHz)
>GeForce 7300GT (Turion64 1.6GHz)
>GeForce 8800GT (Athlon64 x2 3.2GHz)
>HD6850 (AthlonII x3 3.2GHz)
>HD6850 CF (i7-920 3.8GHz)
>GTX 660 (same)
>R9 280X (i7-4820K 4.5GHz)
>GTX970 (X5650 4.3GHz)

My first GPU was a Radeon 6670.
Then I got a GeForce GT 740.
It was a significant improvement but later I would end up buying my current card which is a GeForce GTX 1070.

Looking back, I should have purchased an RX480 because that would have been about half the price.

It's not because I have anything against NVIDIA but NVIDIA is wickedly expensive and I am a poorfag who had to spend money from Social Security.

I miss my FX5200. All I played at the time was CS1.6 / Half Life / DoD1.6, it was a little beast. I kept it for years before I got rid of it but I wish I'd framed it or something now.

GTX 470
HD 7990
GTX 1060

This. Back in the good old days of agp.

I had a voodoo graphics 3d and later the 9800gt
