>tells me what's going on
>tell him to literally google the question he asked me
>"nothing is coming up! I can't find anything on the subject!"
>Take the literal question and paste it into google
>20+ links in like 0.003 seconds or whatever
>send him a screen shot
>"do you know what google is or how to search something at all?"
>"That didn't come up I swear!"
>fix his computer for the time being
>2 weeks later

>2 weeks later it crashes
he literally crashed his computer and I have NO idea how he did it either. i didn't know that was possible.

Help me laugh Sup Forums

Sup Forums I am lonely, please show me some love

sorry I have nothing to add but I hope your weekend is going well

aw thanks user. It's ok.

You should have installed linux mint. It's more stable. Unity actually has a lot of problems.

should have installed arch buddy

I've never had an issue with ubuntu. Cause of his mentality, I was going with pretty bright colours, I thought about that kidbuntu thing... Sugar OS I think? but then I would feel like I'm literally helping a kid

I need to look into arch, I keep putting it off

>he literally crashed his computer and I have NO idea how he did it
That's quite simple. Linux isn't a silver bullet, if the problem is between the chair and the screen then changing the computer won't help. Linux isn't that much more secure or crash proof compared to Windows, it's just that fewer people exploit it. If you're an idiot with Linux, then you can expect the same results as being an idiot with windows or OSX.

I mean honestly, I've never crashed linux or heard it was even possible unless you're doing something in terminal. Which made me think maybe he did google something and typed in the wrong thing.

but then again, I don't use linux a whole lot, I use it if I have to (nothing wrong with it just like windows for gayms)

I think instead of just taking people's personal preferences as recommendations you might have more success analyzing what the autist actually uses the computer for.

What does he do for his work?

Linux is far from idiot proof. OS X on the other hand, that's its soul purpose.

oh I misread, I thought this was a workplace situation

he doesn't. He is mentally 7 at least. He gets a few things here and there but that's about it. He lives with his mom and collects checks from the gov. He is not mentally fit for anything at all. So he lives with his mom and step dad. I feel bad for her, everytime we talk she's so stressed out. (His mom is cool but him? No)

He just gets on gaming sites and looks up whatever and then porn. Of all OS' I figured something debian wasn't a bad idea. considering non-existent virus' (correct me if I'm wrong.)

AFAIK he doesn't goto school, or have a job and honestly, I'd be afraid if he ever got a job. I could see him freaking out over something tiny like dropping someone's eggs and having a panic attack.

yeah but your common person wouldn't fuck up this hardcore. They would look into it and go "OK these videos say DO THIS"

I've crashed Linux, probably hundreds of times. From kernel panics with new hardware to X crashing and dumping me unceremoniously at the login screen after nvidia drivers disagree with a VM, it's been an annoyingly common occurrence. Linux isn't magical and it certainly isn't idiot proof. You could argue that it's not even idiot friendly. You want to make any machine idiot friendly? Take away their admin rights.

>considering non-existent virus' (correct me if I'm wrong.)
You're wrong. They're not common but they do exist. If Linux gains market share it'll gain malware.

Yeah but if I did that then he'd be bothering me almost daily on "How to" shit and honestly, I'd rather not fuck with it.

Later on that year, I found out his step dad spent about 200 on him and got a chrome book. I thought about it, and I don't know much on a chrome book but then again, I know it's gentoo (no literally it is. Google it and you can open terminal, it comes up through the browser). I've not heard anything from him since, maybe that's too idiot proof. I've wanted to play with that too to see what it can do.

I heard Chrome books are ARM so I could potentially run android on it or fuck it get a tablet with a keyboard
(I want to play some tablet games that aren't on PC)

I thought about this one time:
I've heard they exist but I've never come across one. In a way, it's a good thing that Linux (in general) isn't heavily recognized as an OS LIKE windows and mac.
Considering there's so many different forks to look into, it'd be harder to make a virus for just 1 thing (I have a feeling that Debian and Arch are more than likely the most used cause it's easier to work with? I bet I'm wrong again)

>I know it's gentoo (no literally it is. Google it
You're on a tech board, give us some credit. That's common knowledge here.
>I've not heard anything from him since, maybe that's too idiot proof
Chrome OS basically removes his admin rights and gives him an app store, it's the perfect solution.
>I heard Chrome books are ARM so I could potentially run android on it
Some models are ARM, some are x86. Android will also run on x86. Not sure why you'd want to run android on a chrome book though. As for tablet games, take a look at bluestacks or try running Android in a vm.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some people still dont

>it's the perfection solution
I can still see him fucking it up

>bluestack
Fuck that thing is laggy on my PC or any PC I've ever used. I just need something that runs in VMware if anything. I got windows 7 playing Vice City. Gonna test some other games

Is he ChrisChan?

>I've heard they exist but I've never come across one.
I haven't come across a virus on windows in the past decade I'd say, doesn't mean they don't exist. I've never gotten a virus on an android phone either, I still know they exist.

Also, Linux malware isn't distro specific. Some distros are faster at patching vulnerabilities than others but that doesn't mean the malware is limited to any one distro.

Please lurk more, I feel like I'm spoon feeding you at this point.

most linux distros should be pretty simple to exploit honestly, doesn't matter which one it is. just exploit some userspace program like chrome and execute some kind of script that elevates your privilege and fuck shit up. it doesn't matter if people run debian or ubuntu or gentoo or whatever if you just want to execute rm -rf /.

>I just need something that runs in VMware if anything
1)Google Android x86
2)download ISO
3)Make new empty VM
4)Mount ISO, install android
5)????
6)Profit
And you say the autistic guy is bad with computers? You're not that much better.
>I got windows 7 playing Vice City.
What, exactly, does an old as shitposting ps2/xbox/pc/android/toaster game have to do with anything? Please tell me you're not running that in a VM when you could be playing the native version.

no.

I never said they DIDN'T exist I'm saying they are basically so rare that they are almost non-existent at this point. Like you said, they patch pretty quick so it's not like we noticed anything anyways.
There's a new patch for Ubuntu what ever week or something? There's always something to download to it.

1. No, I've tried to get the ISO x86 to run in VMWare and it always crashes. Never could get it to work right.

2. Nah, I'm just sayin in general. It was just a simple game I had in steam to test out with to make sure.

3. my computer cannot handle shit. It's an 8 year old POS.

4. I've never owned an xbox or PS system. I've been PC and nintendo.

I'm better in the since that if I don't know something I google it for the most part. I try to work with what I have and find solutions. I'd say I'm better than most people walking into a mac store saying "My phone wont turn on!"
"Ma'am have you tried charging it?"
"Oh..."
The fact that I asked a sales rep at the Mac store "what do you think is the user error percentage that walks in"
and he laughed and said "I'd say at least 75%" should tell you something.

Granted, I'm no genius but I try to solve an issue on my own.
Yes I have learned something from you guys but nothing I couldn't find out on my own. Linux isn't complicated, it's different.

>My PC is an old piece of shit
>But I still want to run new games on top of an OS on top of my normal OS
>Aren't normal people stupid? lol
You're not coming across as the sharpest light bulb in the match box, you know that, right?

I should of clarified, that's my fault:
I have a VM on my mother's laptop for me so I don't get blamed when something on her PC fucks up. I put Windows 7 on it for me. I'm only using it for games and so on. My computer is trash, I use it basically as a word processor at this point.

(I admit, I have a habit of not explaining everything sometimes)

I thought autistic people where good with computers wtf? Why do we call each other autistic????

I think that falls under the whole "He's obsessive with computers and wants nothing else. He says he has an interest in woman but he is too fucking awkward"

I take it you've never met an autismal neckbeard or an actual autistic person like SEVERE autism in person have you?

It's hard to explain cause I don't understand it myself.

No never really met any people like that. I have some traits of autism but not severe enough to be on the spectrum.

For sure he is the idiot that clicks the "you are our 1 million guest! Click here and claim your prize!"
Anyways, no idea how he fucked up on ubuntu. Just don't do anything for him again, it won't end well for you.

oh i know, I've known this headache of a guy since highschool and all it does is make my head spin and want to just scream 1/2 the time

it all depends on what the person with autism is interested in and how high functioning he is/n't.

this is an 18+ web sight

it sure is user!

got tired of the random file extension names again?

do what?

you know

Unfortunately I have no idea what you're talking about.

been at 3 different IT jobs and between 12 people, six degrees, and eight certifications none of them knew the difference between a public and private IP, or that there even was such a thing as a public IP for that matter. I'm a programmer now. Fuck IT, everyone treats you like shit and the pay is garbage.

Don't forget that when you're in IT everyone is a fucking idiot that calls in but once in a while, a legit person will call in and ask for help. I try to resolves my problems with the internet first then all else fails, I call. And if along the way I figured out how easy it was, I apologize for wasting their time.

I don't think you understand, I was referring to IT employees. people who had the title network administrator, or such, and didn't know any of that. and entire departments full of network administrators and also tech directors who didn't all know collectively what the difference between public and private IP was, and then entire IT businesses where they collectively also didn't know.

You sound autistic, have you been diagnosed?

You didn't give him the sudo password, did you? Without that, it would have to be a hardware issue.

If you gave him the sudo password, then why?

Linux malware already exists, but thanks to the fact that it is modular means that if you do something like firejail your firefox/chromium/chrome, you should be perfectly safe, so long as you aren't running a server or something.
