Okay, but why is it a must have? Been running Linux for years and never felt like steam was missing what so ever.

wesnoth

it's what he considers a must-have
not everyone uses the same software on their computer (otherwise this thread would be meaningless)

And that's why I ask why he considers it a must have, since I personally only consider it to be a pain to use steam.

probably because he likes playing steam games

Can't you get most Linux steam games on some other way?

you can pirate linux steam games, if that's what you mean, but what's wrong with getting legit games?

/thread

Nothing wrong with paying for the software you use.
Hmm I kinda hoped many Linux developers would concider releasing without being bound to a platform like steam.
Well it's just always annoying seeing steam everywhere and anywhere.
I wish I could run games without an active internet connection and so on.

take a look at GOG
you essentially get DRM-free DDL

some games are only released via steam, it's not something the end user can control (legitimately)
i get GOG versions myself where possible, i don't like having to fire up steam to run a game either

speaking of such, does someone know if someone's made a linux version of SSE? (smart steam emulator) i use that to run (legit) single player games in wine without needing to run steam
