So.. What's my name?
Why dont SD, USB and MicroSD cards have SMART?
What stops them?
Going to be migrating oan old hard drive to my new computer. Is it typically a good idea to completely wipe it before installing a new OS? If so, what are some good Sup Forums approved programs for wiping a hard drive?
the joke is that trump supports still have a brain unlike hillary drones.
Best bluetooth mice?
My laptop has limited USB ports so I think using a bluetooth mice will save me one.
Logitech MX Master seems to be the best after strolling through the internet.
Why dont you just get a USB HUB?
>carrying usb hub with you everywhere
>le apple dongles meme
yeah nah
If you are going to install the OS on a different Hard drive/SSD dont worry.
If you are going to use it as a main OS drive you will have to.
Just reformat it trough windows installer.
What causes this type of vertical artifacting, and how can I avoid it? Is there a tool that will attempt to fix it?
Guy trying to run Fedora 25 in a VM here. I've gained progress but am encountering another problem.
Running Fed 25 in VirtualBox I can get to the login for Live System User and attempt to install to the hard drive. I've allocated 45gb for the virtual disk. The initial install works fine. When I restart the VM to apply the installation, its gone. I get an error, see pic related.
Compression on lossy formats.
Thanks to how JPG works there will be noise all around the image and will get worse every time you compress it more.
Use a lossless format like PNG.
>cirnojpegthestrongest.jpg
I assumed it was caused by compression, but 90 percent of my images are jpegs, and less than one percent of them have those vertical lines. I guess I am looking for a more specific reason.
It's going to be for my main OS. I'm looking for something a little more linux focused. Would using a live CD work well enough?
i have an unused DDR3 4gb RAM stick.
i use an old laptop (lenovo g550) that only has 3gb in it (1+2).
if i replace the 1gb stick with 4gb stick, will i have a fully functional 6gb RAM in total?
...
Meant for
It happens when you upload a image to a site that compresses it by default, one that doesn't care about image quality and only to reduce image size as much its possible, even if it means do it multiple times.
Some examples are twitter, imgur, etc.
Others will keep the original image and dont change it such like pomf clones, Sup Forums, pixiv, etc.
That is why the images you have stored dont look bad.
Is it SO-DIMM? otherwise it wont fit.
Laptop and Desktop RAM are different.
But if it is, yeah there should be no problem.
when loading the Sup Forums catalog on firefox, the browser comes to a hault for several seconds, almost a dozen seconds
doing the same on epiphany safari, no issues, no lag, no halt, just loads
why?
Have you considered that your addons are making it lag?
inb4 deleted ~~emails~~ posts
I understand that, I was wondering if anyone knew exact sites or export/upload/download settings to avoid.
https everywhere and ublock origin
?
Aren't you relieved that Assange got killed without having to release info about republicans' campaign?
Pomf clones are alternatives to imgur that wont change your image.

Supports up to 4 gigs.
lapspecs.com

fuck, it's https everywhere
how horrible
thx bb.
Is there a name for that specific problem?
Lossy compression.
Its a JPG problem, other formats dont have this problem, like PNG because is a lossless format.
Images like the one you posted should be PNG originally, it would be around 2-4 KB.
Again, I understand that part. I was hoping someone had a name for that specific viritcal artifact caused by a lossy compression format like jpg.
i also happen to have an asus k50ij that only has 2gb on it. i hope it is 1 stick of 2gb
how to remove the opensuse palemoon repo?
software.opensuse.org
lenovo g550 uses ddr3.
asus k50ij uses ddr2. You won't be able to use the extra ram in the asus.
where can I find more of these comics? I can't read the signature
anyone here know anything about SSL?
So Appchan X shat out on me, and I had to switch to 4chanX and Oneechan.
1. Is it possible to get the thread search at the top of the board index like how it is in Appchan without having to go to the catalog and search from there? If so, how?
2. How do I get expanded images to overlap the sidebar in Oneechan instead of hide under it?
god damnit
Whats the least secure thing for a normalfag?
>Using Windows as admin
>Using Linux exclusively with root account
just leave it plugged in all the time and velcro the hub to the back of the lid or something
Need some help to market my site/page. Could you guys help me out?
The site helps you find do some research on cell phones to buy.
The url is reviewgist.com
Hope you guys have a merry christmas :)
not clicking the link but, who are you and why should anyone care about your opinions/reviews on anything?
I just want to share my site with people. Help find phones. Like /spg/.
Run no script and adblock no problem.
Even has a cellphon for men section.
Dont you want a man phone?
Additional request to go along with it,
Is there a way to get the index backlink in the top menu? The little reverse arrow that would take you back to the board index from within a thread. That, and not having the index search at the top are killing me.
>mans phone
if I want one of those I'll get a chink phablet but for now it's tracphone all the way
the vertical lines aren't from jpeg
i'm guessing they're moire artifacts from it being a photo of a screen
that's the problem with these images that are shared around various normalfag sites, they're a screenshot of a photo of a screenshot of another screenshot of a photo, etc
they pick up artifacts like whores pick up std's
I'm building a (relatively) retro PC. What would be a good amount of hard drive space for Windows 98 and Windows 2000?
2gb
Photos taken of screens produce very identifiable problems, screen door effects, dark/light spots etc, but non of them look like the artifacts we are talking about here. (pic is another example of these vertical lines.)
98SE is ~250M, 2000 is ~900M
the rest depends on what you plan to install on it
what's with the "picture of" pewdiepie ruby play button ebay listings that have thousands of dollars of bids on them? do people actually fall for this or is it the sellers that put fake bids on them or wtf?
i'm not completely certain
another thing it reminds me of is streaking you get from shitty scanners, but i find it hard to believe people are scanning these
It does look a lot like scanning, but that would be a pretty big stretch.
Using FireFox with uBlock and for whatever reason YouTube vids sit at a black screen with 0:00/(Length of video) for 30s-1minute, and if I touch it, it goes to 0:00/0:00 and I have to reload.
Running on a 125mbps connection
uBlock or uBlock origin?
A friend got a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro tablet but apparently any installed app from the play store wont appear.
They appear installed in settings but they wont appear on the home screen.
Duh, guess I should be specific. uBlock Origin 1.10.4
Any other apps installed?
Does it work if you disable uBlock?
Just to be sure try to purge and update filters in the settings.
I want to remove the LED function cable from the back of my computer monitor. But it is concealed with difficult to peel-back tape. It is like foil. I tried peeling it back without breaking it but it came apart. Is it electrical tape?
I haven't removed the cable yet, I'm not sure if it's even able to be removed. I'm careful not to yank it out in case it's not meant to come out. Anyone familiar with these cables or the connection?
No and no
You need to setup the filters for it to work with it.Why would you think it would load with everything disabled?
Im pretty sure there are premade filters on the git wiki
I completely removed it and restarted firefox and still fucked up
Run Adwcleaner.
Is it happening in chrome too?
If you don't mind the lag and the weight it's fine.
I'd prefer either the M705, G403 or G900
yea, honestly i don't know for sure
all i know is that it's not jpeg's doing, it either artificial (some kind of digital effect added that was subsequently screenshotted) or optical, it looks more optical, but the picture is straight with consistent (albiet washed out) light/color, which makes it unlikely to be a photo, but still possibly a scan
I just installed win7 pro. I have a 1080p 144hz and a 2560x1080 ultrawide 60hz. When I put the 60hz as my main display I get no problems, but I would rather play games on the 144. However, if I switch the settings to make the 144 the main display, I get really poor performance on the 60 hz, and the wallpaper shows with black bars on the sides. Anyone know why this is happening? I have an R9 390 if that matters.
Tomorrow I'm going to clean my laptop. First time since 2008 and generally first time cleaning a laptop at all.
What should I know before I do it and probably fuck up my computer?
Physically or Digitally?
I recommend both.
Digitally:
Reinstall your OS
Pysically:
Find a guide, preferrably one from the manufacturer, and one third party to cross reference.
Just don't force anything.
If you're having trouble with something, double check for screws, think about where the plastic/metal clips are, and if you still cant figure it out, take a coffee break.
When replacing thermal paste in a laptop, make sure you are using non-conductive thermal paste (or thermal pads if required).
Anti-static is not necessary (unless you are wearing mostly synthetic clothing), but do try to work on a non-static workbench. Wood is ok.
How do I make this checkbox clickable
Try unckecking the parent folders.
Do people actually use C++ in jobs or is it all high level languages like Ruby?
It is a parent folder
I'm ok on the software side of things, so no OS cleaning needed, but I still don't have much practice with the hardware. I've looked on youtube for disassembly and cleaning videos for my model of laptop. Got the theory behind applying a thermal paste, will probably end up with not too expensive but also not no-name thermal paste. Wood desk - check, coffee - check. Thanks for the tips.
all games are made in C++
The javascript/sql are from web developers and can be ignored.
Python, Java, C# and C++ are the most common languages used by actual developers.
Watch a video of how disassemble your laptop first.
Remove the battery first and press the power button and then for a while (10-15 seconds).
Get canned air and a new paint brush.
If you are going to repaste it (reccomended) get isopropyl alcohol.
If you dont are going to repaste it dont even think of removing the heatsink.
You should remove the motherboard since dust gets under it too.
If you use canned air, remember to lock the heatsink fan in place with something or you will fuck the bearings with it.
Be careful with the HDD.
Dont strip screws, dont put pressure on them.
If you end with one extra screw time to open it again.
Isn't C pretty hard to learn? Any good books for it?
I don't know if Sup Forums or /diy/ is a better place for this, but I'm looking to get a half-decent oscilloscope for personal projects and fixes as someone who's a EE/CpE student. Obviously the university has much nicer equipment, and I can always upgrade to a nicer one later on (such as pic related). Parents want to get me something for Christmas and I'd rather not ask for a $400 oscilloscope like a spoiled brat.
Do I go with an old-school analog one or one of those PC-based ones (such as the Hantek 6022E)?
Do you mean parent folder, or storage device?
like this
those old tube tvs can be turned into them sometimes
worth looking into for a fairly cheap diy project
If you can find an analogue scope for a good price, they're fine. In fact, you'll learn a lot from using an older scope because you have to figure out a lot of stuff on your own.
Digital are more useful, but also more expensive. Some less expensive Rigol scopes can be unlocked to give access to the features of more expensive scopes (they run the same firmwawre, but just come locked down with unlock codes that are just hashes of the serial number)
C++ is different to C and it's probably the hardest language to learn considering it has the most features of any language and alot of them don't even work properly with each other
Give a window screenshot of the properties pane. these tiny shots are useless.
I already watched some videos.
I will repaste it and will get an iso too.
I don't know if I'll remove the mobo, this may make the process a lot more complicated.
Thanks.
...
If it's 8 years old take the entire thing apart.
Right, so click on Z and disable it
Permission inheritance, git gud
w-well you see
Do any of the individual the child folders have indexing enabled?
Yes, it'd be a good thing to do since it's been 8 years, maybe I'll try to do it.
Nuke it.
Format that bitch.
Actually once you remove the screws in most laptops (except dell models where you need to remove the HSF usually) the motherboard will come off if you remove all screws with no problem.
If you repaste remember to clean the old paste from the heatsink and from the CPU with isopropyl alcohol.
Or paste cleaner but will be way more expensive.
Dont use anything else.
You can buy used ones from your local community college. Mine had 30 or more Techtronix units sitting in a closet that were donated but we only needed 6 maybe 10 at most.
You could try to call the electronics program at a nearby CC.
Nail polish remover is a bad idea?
I'll get the iso then and try to remove the mobo.
I really like this laptop and it'd be great to make it less noisy and to not overheat.
Yes its a bad idea since residue will be left on the surface its applied.
Isopropyl alcohol fully evaporates in seconds.
Are these languages self teachable?
I like to get into them before I go to school
Ok, I'll try to get the necessary things tomorrow and do it. Thanks.
