Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook). ---- If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance). Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experience™
Recommended models: T420 - 14", normal size X220 - 12.5", ultraportable ---- Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops) >Used machines are plentiful and cheap. >Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet. >Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels. >Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models. >Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop. >Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain. >The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad. >Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support. ---- Used ThinkPad buyers guide: ktgee.net/tpg

Blake Perez
Pls respond
Daniel Fisher
Pretty sure they won't be announced til CES
Jose Moore
figure out the measurements and get another one. then google how to fix a stripped screw.
Bentley Miller
No. I just need to get it out of the old HDD
Parker Richardson
Will the Old models drop in price directly after? Or will it Take a couple months?
Chase Anderson
Graphical or regular debian install?
Elijah Cook
Graphical because it's easier
Lincoln Miller
Too l8
Tyler Perez
It's basically the same thing
Charles Hughes
>graphical >easier kek
Oliver Robinson
this will be my last shitpost about my terrible amazon purchases bought an hp rp5700, gonna upgrade to a xeon 3075, 4gb of ddr2, and a radeon 3450, then comes the cosmetic ricing for fun, all together im out about 70$
anyway, my 380ED has been fun, figuring out how to use DOS to install some old games, simcity 2000 runs better on this thing than it does on my fucking T42, i shit you not also got commander keen on there, my mom wants to steal it from me, because thats her favorite game of all time or something
Nicholas Green
Yep. You simply click on the option you want, or click a check box. Easy peasy.
Ryder Johnson
ips if it aint already in there modded bios for fast ram dickwaving 5ghz wifi to rise above your pissant neighbors crowding the lower band (get a dell dw1510 if you're questioning your sexuality & want to try out hackintoshing)
Cameron Davis
They'll cut prices by maybe $200 until the new models are released. Don't go in expecting 50% off.
Connor Fisher
I wanna buy an e470 which is 800€ right now, should i wait until after CES for a price drop of any Kind?
Do you think this is a good deal? I'm installing new RAM and SSD and booting with Arch. No webcam is an added bonus to me.
Christopher Ortiz
>8 instead of 16 gb ram >Intel HD 520 instead of 940mx >i5-6200u instead of i7-7500u >900€ instead of 800€
And all of that just for better Material on the frame and better Liquid draining?
Angel Miller
Buy a thinkpad, user, not a macbook
Landon White
>being literally retarded
Thomas Cooper
Last time i checked MacBooks are the ones with higher prices for worse specs
Justin Green
It's called a joke You can't pour water on a macbook, though
Zachary White
ThinkPad W530 Intel i7-3630qm true quad core 16GB DDR3 (unsure of exact RAM speed) 180GB Intel SSD (unsure of exact model) 15.6" 1920x1080 panel (unsure of exact type) Nvidia Quadro K1000M or K2000M (not sure which one specifically)
$200 cash in the hand if I want it in the next hour, do I grab this puppy or run from it, denizens of /tpg/?
Hudson Garcia
I have never poured liquid on any electronic device in 25 years and im not gonna start now
Benjamin Jackson
>You can't pour water on a macbook, though
Yes, you actually can, however if you want it to actually keep functioning it's generally frowned upon.
Easton Wright
rip bannanas
the very real threat of the non-smart battery causing a lithium explosion on those bananas though...
William Hall
yeah, worth it thats normally a 300-500$ laptop used
even if its slow ddr3, a shittier ssd or the k1000m, thats a good deal
Nolan Ramirez
Would an X230 Tablet (bulky battery included) fit in a standard laptop sleeve on the market?
I'm looking at ones advertised as fitting a 13" Mac, but I'm afraid the Thinkpad will be both too thick and too wide.
David Ward
it will fit in a 13" bag just fine, its only 12x9" with a 1-1/4" thickness
Xavier Green
Thanks lad.
Hunter Campbell
I think that user was asking about how thick it is with the battery slice, not the extended 9-cell sticking out the back but I could be wrong. With the battery slice it should approach 1.75" thick or maybe a bit more.
Actually, t470 with thunderbolt 3, I'm sold if I ever want a laptop with a current gen processor.
Easton Jones
Wow, that's just... sad, truly sad. Those are fucking hideous creations each and every one.
God dammit Lenovo, why?
Jaxson Morgan

Adam Long
The X270 looks fine, and it now has USB-C charging, which is a huge plus.
Samuel Johnson
A 12" 16:9 display is never fine
Brandon Adams
that full power cpu option in the t470p is pretty wild. i don't know what kind of world-changing update you guys were expecting. seems like a reasonable line refresh to me.
as for our 7-row kb, screen ratio, no touchpad, blue enter key fetishizing, maybe if we're lucky they're saving the retro reveal for ces for extra tech journo hype
Ryder Thomas

what does Sup Forums think of the E550? i can get one for 220$ new from a local store
Luis Clark
the base i3-5005U model
Asher Bennett
>tfw you know there will never be a laptop as good as the x220 :(
Hudson Rivera
I have a t450s and I don't think it really deserves all the hate it gets. If it didn't have the Thinkpad branding it would be a decent laptop.
Despite all that, the build quality is really shit. I dropped this laptop once with my headphones plugged in and now the jack is completely broken. Meanwhile, my shitty old hp laptop survived much worse. Also, I would have liked to see an hdmi port instead of VGA or DP.
William Clark
I would stay away, it looks pretty low quality. Try and buy a used T___ like T440 or whatever, they will last you longer.
Colton Ward
Bezels just keep growing, they keep growing, man!
Brayden Kelly
keyboard is shit. I mean shit even compared to modern hi-end thinkpads.
Dominic Hughes
You have enough to get a better t/x/w series thats older and better specs. You can stil find them in almost new condition pretty easily.
Andrew Sullivan
t430s vs x1c ? Suppose the latter would be better in the ultrabook category ? Both'd be used with docking stations, but also taken from time to time with me
Henry Mitchell
My w520 optical drive caddy only powers on sometimes leaving me without access to the HDD I've placed inside. Where can I find the option to leave it powered on? I've browsed in the power options and find nothing,
Camden Hernandez
If money was no object, would you get an old T420 or a new T460?
I'm a jewy minimalist with a lot of extra money to throw around due to never buying anything. I would upgrade either of them with third party SSD and RAM.
Luis Kelly
mine on the t410 is the same, i find no logic behind it. also no settings.
Jayden Wood
So new generation but no chinkpad retro?
Noah Cook
It's weird because sometimes when I startup the laptop it's on and sometimes it's not.
Anyone here got the answers?
Logan Miller
you should generally get the oldest one that can still run what you need.
Already have RAM ready to upgrade it to 8GB and an SSD, will likely also upgrade the screen to IPS in the future
Ryan Williams
Is Core i5 2025m on T420 decent enough for daily uses? Or do I need something more powerful to handle today's websites?
Jaxon Thompson
If you mean the 2520m, then yes. It's still fairly competitive with ULV ultrabook CPUs
Colton Long
Sorry. I meant 2520m. What are the temps I should expect it to reach under load?
Hunter Jenkins
Don't know why you're surprised. This is how laptops are made nowadays.
Ian Nguyen
Daily reminder that the Retro is never happening and that we were fools for thinking otherwise.
Zachary Torres
I expected nothing, and I'm still let down. Fucking Lelnovo.
Jacob Myers
Alright I'm new to Thinkpads. Can anyone tell me the optimal start/stop charge threshold to use, and why? Thanks.
Jackson Reyes
Why are people hating on the new thinkpads? The L570 has a 1366x768 TN panel, you guys should love it.
Chase Ward

Is P line the new W ? Can I safely assume that P is the more expensive but also more extensible than T?
If I had to chose between T560 and P50 with the same insights except for CPU (i7-6600 for i7-6700) Is P50 worth additional price?
Jonathan Brooks
>Can I safely assume that P is the more expensive but also more extensible than T? I meant, P is like T in terms of quality just with newer components.
I'm fucking lost above certain price point where benchmarks show very similar numbers.
Christopher Edwards
i used pliers to get them out
Nathaniel Roberts
What an interesting day Not only did lenovo manage to make me not want the new t470p, I now actually want a 2016 macbook after using my friends
Dominic Powell

the x1c doesn't have a docking station

what's the little plastic square next to my trackpad? is it just for if I wanna install a fingerprint scanner later?
Jaxson Anderson
I was just playing in Hyperdimension Neptunia on external monitor with my 2520M, had 80 degrees on MB sensor, and 76 degrees on CPU sensor. I don't know if that's okay.
Isaiah Gomez
x1c has no dock
Carson Bailey
onelink port
also dead since the next x1c will have tb3

there still might be a retro announcement next week. if ces comes and goes with not a whiff of retro i will be hopping mad.
