Is there really any reason to use Linux in 2016/2017? It doesn't even have good wifi support.
Cameron Ramirez
Freedom.

I'm not interested in your religion though.

I got these 2 semi-old computers pretty cheap with Pentium D processors, and they apparently came with "Windows 7 ETSE" and an ubuntu derivate alled "so.xug" . Anyone ever heard of this so.xug thing before ? from what i found in google its used in universities but i have no idea if its any good
Blake Taylor
>Is there really any reason to use Linux yes, linux isn't effected by the year
James Anderson
What you call "freedom" certainly is a religion. Linux is trash though and doesn't have good support for basic features like wifi. Also it has terrible sound.
John Ortiz
>It doesn't even have good wifi support. It does. - posted from Linux over wifi
Christopher Lee
Yeah, maybe after you've spent a few days configuring it. And even then it drops every few hours or so. Great support.
Colton Garcia
>Linux is trash though >wifi. >terrible sound. what does that have to do with 2016/2017?
Jonathan Myers
>every linux install i made in my life >graphics, wifi and ethernet work out of the box >every windows install i made >have to google the motherboard on a second computer to get ethernet, wifi, videocard and audio drivers

Reminder to try out some of these distros: > Void > Gentoo > Funtoo > Exherbo > Slackware > CRUX > NixOS > GuixSD > Devuan > stali > LFS

>What you call "freedom" certainly is a religion. Let's investigate it futher.
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion Religion is a cultural system of behaviors and practices, world views, sacred texts, holy places, ethics, and societal organisation that relate humanity to what an anthropologist has called "an order of existence" None of those apply to linux or fs.
> Different religions may or may not contain various elements, ranging from the "divine",[2] "sacred things",[3] "faith",[4] a "supernatural being or supernatural beings"[5] or "some sort of ultimacy and transcendence that will provide norms and power for the rest of life."[6] Not applicable either.
Let's see another article, that is referenced at the beginning of the former. >en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy >Philosophy (from Greek φιλοσοφία, philosophia, literally "love of wisdom"[1][2][3][4]) is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. That's more applicable.

If I have devices disabled in the BIOS and install a distro, will that distro see and install drivers during installation for them?

Proprietary fags at full damage control.
Chase Morgan
Fine, post an "objective" source then retarded fuck
Dylan Russell
No. I recomend you disable your webcam and microphone on a hardware level
Adam Thomas
Is there something like `lsmod' that prints all available modules?
Christopher Hughes
You claimed apple doesn't own the market, you provide evidence to back up this retarded assertion.
Anthony Edwards
yes, do sudo cat /dev/zero > /dev/mem
Isaac Lee
I already did you mongoloid if you can't provide a source that says otherwise then fuck off
Mason Sanders
Apple doesn't own any market. OSX is actually good for nothing, there is a dedicated thread for that
Jack Torres
find /lib/modules/$(uname -r) -type f -name '*.ko' | sed 's/.*\/\(.*\)\.ko/\1/' | sort
Samuel Morris
You didn't. Your provided a fake source and have yet to provide evidence to back up your claim. OS X is worse than windows, yes. But we weren't talking about that, we were talking about iOS
Parker Anderson
>iOS Comes with shitty """"phones"""". I'm not interested in phones at all but iPhones are trash if you ask me
Jordan Phillips
Perfect, ty.
Cooper Brooks
Actually not. You claimed Apple does own the market. you have to provide evidence. But since you are a mac toddler, here it goes:
>cat /dev/zero > /dev/mem Useless use of cat. Learn2cli.
Jacob Phillips
I throw qurans into the volcano near my home so it will convert to islam and blow itself up; killing everyone nearby ,including myself.

iphone is literally the best. I haven't though. You claimed the opposite. >an obviously biased site yeah, might have posted the android website itself.
Joshua Wilson
Some edgy distro.
Landon Hill
>iphone is literally the best. I wonder how Apple is allowed to milk money off poor tech inept userbase
>>an obviously biased site >t. apple toddler She doesn't know you are not supposed to trust the source, that is actually good for that matter, but instead read the research and try to find flaws in the method and axioms.

I don't buy them every time though. Apple is the best, android is still pretty good though. You posted a shitty source and got the appropriate response. Now find a good source that support your claim or fuck off. You will have to fuck off since you are lying. >b >pol Huh? What did you even mean by this?
William Nelson
hello Sup Forumsentlemen. i need a distro recommend for my 8yo lenovo laptop. it has 120gb ssd, 4gb ram. i have been looking for lightweight distros but my searches doesn't satisfy me. what's your recommendations?
i'm little into gnu/linux. used ubuntu 10.04, and debian that i cannot remember which version it had.
Camden James
KDE Shill,
You are on too many levels of satire for me Anonymous.
>You posted a shitty source and got the appropriate response. your opinion on the source is irrelevant. Check the methodology, basic assumptions and try to find a flaw.
>t. apple toddler >apple toddler in full damage control
Colton Hall
Sorry, I don't watch TV shit since I'm not retarded like you. It's not an opinion. The source is biased and can't be trusted to provide accurate information of Apple and their technology.
Wyatt Lopez
Yes, It's actually pretty polished as opposed to you might think. I suggest people to try Linux Lite as well
Sebastian Lopez
Judging by your response time I think you are watching them.
How does it feel to be a retarded sheep?
Jason Howard
>1:12 lmao. as expected
Mason Gutierrez
>Linux Lite >not GNU/Linux Lite dropped
Robert Butler
>It's not an opinion. The source is biased and can't be trusted to provide accurate information of Apple and their technology. Kek. Not understanding what methodology and basic assumptions are.
I don't watch TV shit. What's this webm supposed to "prove" though? A kid is crying near something which appears to be Apple Tech. So? It's a shit source which is biased towards Android. Now fuck off or provide good sources. I don't watch TV shit as I've said earlier.
Xavier Walker
Stop posting this bullshit here when people are trying to have a discussion. Or provide relevant sources yourself. You really shouldn't be posting this here.
Joseph Anderson
What's the equivalent of ccleaner for Linux? Or at least a way to clean all cache
Samuel Brooks
It displays how gullible Apple fans actually are, user, Open you eyes Ah now that came out a bit salty. Look I don't want to be rude to children so don't make me angry
Nicholas Thompson
bleachbit
Jace Morgan
So? How does this apply to me or the software? Even if you find 99% of iOS users that would still be meaningless scientifically speaking.
Isaac Barnes
nope, out of the box and it doesn't "drops"
Benjamin Roberts
>It's a shit source which is biased towards Android. Now fuck off or provide good sources. Failing to show a flaw in the methodology or basic assumptions. Nice opinion you have there.
And yes, it's your opinion, not a fact, since you didn't back it up.
>t. apple toddler
Juan Thomas
You don't have any shit on Linux that you'd need to delete.
Jason Allen
Apple hardware = trash iOS without apple hardware = non existent
Is it hard?
Lincoln Ross
except nonfree software
Ayden Ortiz
You don't have any shit on your computer that you'd need to delete.
Oh yeah, the mactard OS. Sorry
Anthony Nelson
what are orphaned packages? and web browser and program caches,
Evan Flores
So what's taking up space when I use Firefox on Linux?
Julian Green
>orphaned packages? thats your package managers job >web browser and program cache these exist for a reason and have space limits
Joseph Roberts
Hello, noob here.
I'm ready to take the plunge from W10 to Linux. I tried a live usb with Elementary and so far I like it, it sees my ntfs disks and the hardware works.
I have a question: Will when installed it also be able to write to the existing ntfs data disks? (usenet, torrents). I don't have the space to backup all my movies and music.
Nolan Brooks
Then what's an easy way of removing them both easily
Christian Russell
- remove orphaned packages on update - leave program caches alone, they exists to make your shit faster
Jack Adams
It should, you may need to add the ntfs partitions to your fstab so you don't need to manually mount them.
Easton Hughes
>Will when installed it also be able to write to the existing ntfs data disks? Yes. it sues a module(driver) called ntfs-3g, comes by default with any distro.
>I don't have the space to backup all my movies and music. I would recommend unplugging data disks during installation. Just for safety.
Austin Young
There's 300mb of space that I can't account for and Firefox cache seems to be the only culprit so how do I get rid of that shit don't care if it's slow
William Rogers
when did /fglt/ convert into a you-rage-you-lose thread?
Adrian Price
Open Firefox. Ctrl + shift + delete. Mark cache. Pick "Everything" or "Since forever". Click "Delete Now".
