5 days into 2017 and everyone is already a faggot

What is a DAW?
Digital
Audio
Workstation

>What DAW is yours?

>How long you been on it?

>How long have you been into music?

>What genre do you play with the most?

>What Genre do you think you are best at?

>Have you thought about changing up to something else?

>What's your favorite synth, no matter how dumb it is?

>Do you see yourself doing this way later on even if you get no where?

We do not talk about the music as it is but how it's created and what we use and how to help
others get better

1 simple rule I hope you can guys do, please don't be assholes to those who
have a different perspective on another DAW, no matter what it is or how shitty
it is. I know there are some very laughable ones out there but ya know...
So please just be as helpful as you can.

For the sake of work, you are allowed to use a name. Just don't
make yourself look like a dumb ass and make me regret saying
that.

If you need help, you can use Clyp.it if you wish to stay user.

If this thread is ded you are welcomed to Nexus, A discord
server specifically made around Sup Forums. If link is bork,
please message the thread. There is a DAW General chat here:

Do you have a bluetooth speaker?
What brand?

1 selfish bump

what's the point of this again, discuss which DAW is best and why and stuff like that?

To help those who need help with their daws, VSTs/plugins. Anything to do with your DAW you like.

What's the clearest and loudest speaker for a house party for someone who plays rap/hip-hop music. It needs to be a floor speaker. Nothing more than $300 please. I tried researching but I couldn't find anything that caught my eye

>Rap/hip hop
niggers can't tell the difference. Just buy something 1/2 way decent.

Has anyone tried running Maschine 2 through wine? I'm tired of using Windows what so ever, and while Bitwig looks pretty nice, I'm basically tethered to the controller and the software, particularly because I received it as a gift, but because I also handicapped myself with the library. Right now I use that, along with FL Studio and the Komplete Ultimate set.

Mint normally can run things like FL really smoothly thru wine which is quite impressive. It runs it almost better than Windows which is funny.

I'd say take the chance and see what do desu.

Eh, I guess you're right, I won't really lose anything in the end, I just feel like I've been spending way more time tinkering with software than being creative. What's the latency like with whatever is Linux's ASIO4ALL equivalent? I'm broke, so I use a USB mic at the moment.

I also use a USB mic. Specifically a Wii U mic and it does exactly what it needs to do.

I dunno, I don't remember right off the top of my head but I remember at the time it was FL 9 and it worked great for some reason.

Where can I find pro tools training?

>Wii U mic
Damn, nigga, and I thought I was broke. I need to count my blessings.

On the topic of being broke though, I've been really wanting to get into hardware synthesis, but I obviously can't afford anything outside of a plastic ass Volca. Then I found this, essentially a cannibalized commodore 64 stuffed full of SID chips and a microcontroller. I'm contemplating getting my hands dirty, especially since I haven't had a reason to use my soldering iron in a while, but again, I'm afraid stuff like this will distract me from making music.
But goddamn, the second demo made me cum when I heard it.

People think when I mention a Wii U mic that it's complete shit. But I've used it for a lot of videos on youtube, on skype, on discord, on Messenger, you name it, and it sounds pretty good. It's not "studio" quality but it's pretty good for 12 bucks. I even made a stand out of a wire hanger, ducttape and a bandanna. It works for what I need it for.

Don't get me wrong, I don't see anything wrong with using video game peripherals for music production, I actually have a set of rockband drums, cymbals and all, I snagged from the good will I use from drum sounds when I want something more organic, but when you denote "Wii U" before mic, that makes me think it has shit sound quality just by association.

I don't blame you at all for this.

The Wii U can do a lot more than people think it can, people just undermined it due to Nintendo not giving game devs more stuff to work with. Otherwise the Wii U is a decent system.

At least we have Smash and Splatoon right?

Does /DAW/ have a recommended entry-level MIDI keyboard/controller?
I'm looking to spend

Splat Tim's only good for the porn, but Smash 4 enduces rage in me since I'm no where as good at it as I am in melee, and it fucking confounds me. I always liked it's younger brother better because it was a god tier emulation machine since it can still connect to CRTs. Honestly the only current gen console that gets slot of rotation for me is the Vita, so I guess I'm on of those guys. The 3DS is fun, but the screen rapes my eyes and my PS4 is literally coated in dust.

>tfw it's 2017 and there still isn't a decent DAW for Linux

don't use the damn 3DS then. I never use it. In Sun and Moon there's literally 1 place in the entire game that you utilize this feature and its when you take pics of Pokemon.

Splatoon was amazing when it first came out. But the biggest issue is that we didn't get anything really decent after normal splat mode (fuck I forgot the name) and then ranked mode. Which, it pissed me off. I hope the switch does it justice.

As for Smash, I'm not bad but I'm not amazing, I think I can hold my own on both 3DS and Wii U. (specially the 3DS as a controller)

The issue is that when it comes to Linux at all, people don't see it as a music maker, shit Pixar had software designed for it to make Brave. It was all done I believe in arch

It's not really the 3D as much as it is the screen itself. I've been spoiled by my Nexus and the Vita, unless I'm looking at sprite art, it's unacceptable to me to see jaggies like that on 3d models.

Bitwig? Renoise? LMMS? Wine?

Nexus?

Nexus 5, just 1080p. Still shit's on the pissfilter screen on the 3DS

I completely forgot that was a phone desu

UE Megaboom - portable, stylish and loud

What's something lightweight I can throw on a shitty 2008 laptop?

Try an older version of Mixcraft

It's for mostly crackers

lol. Most of which are hipsters anyways. They too cannot tellt he difference

Don't worry, FL 11 works on basically all OS' XP and up.

Great. Another $meme general. Just what we need.

Meme?
This is not a "meme" general.
also my general has been on and off for years user. Sorry you're not around to see me here enough to do it.

The sad thing is Linux has some AMAZING softsynths, effects, etc. Like real competitive stuff to expensive vst.

Issue is user interfaces which make many just not worth using and the Linux audio stack is such a pain in the ass no one will even bother trying them.

The biggest hurdle with Linux audio adoption is the GUIs. Most of the core functionality is there but the GUI just makes it unusable.

Someone really should start a project focused on the user interfaces and actually try and package these things up into something solid.

Some of the 'studio' distros kinda had the right idea but they just tried to solve the audio stack problems ( sorta not really )

GUIs/graphics in opensource as a rule are seriously lacking. Someone needs to entice/make easy for budding artists to contribute to projects to put in their portfolio.

People shit on html/CSS but projects that use that stuff tend to look real slick since non technical people are able to contribute.
