How much better are HDR tv's over regular 4K screens, or 4k with fake hdr like lg's "hdr pro"

having missed the black friday and the holidays, would it be better to wait for super bowl sales, or did I miss out on the last good time to buy? would it be worth buying a tv like this, or is it pointless without hdr?
any better suggestions?

HDR is a meme. They look like shit and ruin the intended color palette

what do you mean?

"HDR" is basically just a label that says it has higher contrast ratio.
With LCD's, it means they use zoned backlighting, so some areas can be brighter than others.

OLED screens naturally have high contrast ratios anyway, so they can just label them "HDR" and call it a day.

The film artist intended for you to see colors the way he wanted. HDR ruins that. It's like chromatic aberration was the new meme 4 years ago. Now HDR trash is back

I feel like this is the only place I'd hear this...I'm pretty torn on getting a tv, particularly the one I linked, cause I feel like not getting HDR would be missing out on a proper upgrade for a new tv purchase.

You're a fucking idiot.
HDR tv's display whatever color signal is given to them. The only difference is now they can take in a signal with a higher color pallet and contrast and display said color pallet and contrast with some degree of accuracy.

Being able to wear the dolby10 badge just means manufacturers has proven they've met a set of minimum values dolby has decidied are necessary to display their idea if HDR.

Proper HDR content looks very nice on my Vizio P series in the calibrated modes, but standard content on normal picture mode looks the same as on any other tv. The local backlight dimming does provide deeper blacks and brighter whites all around, but anyone who's owned a plazma can tell you LCD's have always had dogshit contrast values by nature.

notice the text SIMULATED on that pic.

HDR is a fucking meme. You'll never see it from 4ft away.

If your devices don't support HDMI 2.0a there is no point.

I just got pic related a few weeks ago after extensive research for a mid-level 4k tv.

HDR is a meme.

Another television meme to trick people into upgrading from old hardware.

>anyone who's owned a plazma can tell you LCD's have always had dogshit contrast values by nature.
This

I miss my Plasma
FUCK YOU LG FOR FUCKING THAT UP!

The worst thing about HDR is the way it is advertised.

There's no way I can correctly imagine what to expect from HDR from this shit.
If this video should look under saturated on a non HDR monitor and normally saturated on an HDR monitor, but looks over saturated on a non HDR monitor then will it look over over saturated on an HDR monitor?

How am I supposed to judge this shit?

>Simulated

>Let's saturate one half like fuck, because that's completely accurate.

There's no other way to advertise it you dumb ass. The examples shown are obviously exaggerated, but it's like trying to show the benefit of a higher framerate beyond the refresh rate of the monitor you're using to view the comparison. HDR is one part a higher bit pallet for color and contrast and another part a minimum specification required to show these colors and contrast values.

Obviously, like 3d, there are/will be examples where this taken to the extreme or just lazily thrown in to show it off, but it's a good thing overall.
It means, even without being fed an HDR signal, you know the television you're considering buying isn't going to have shitty color and contrast reproduction.

Which is great because the showroom floor is unreliable as fuck for comparing tv's side by side and often times the selection is limited to the budget ranges.

Kek, what an idiot. You can create content with HDR and it will display it VS not displaying how it was intended

>Plasma
tfw your dad didnt buy a nice plasma tv in 2010
now we are stuck with a lcd shit tv

You're probably one of those Apple people calling android folks "poorfags" and you're making such a big deal outta nothing. Just buy one that someone has already bought that gave it a good review and knows what they're talking about.

>there was a time, right before the death of plasma, that you could get an excellent plasma set for hundreds less than a shitty LCD tv
>tfw didn't buy one because marketers, publications, and retards on the internet convinced me Plasma was inferior

All these years later and LCD's have BARELY managed to catch up and had to go and make up a new label to prance around about it, just in time for no one to care as OLED panels will become realistically available in 2-3 years. Shame OLED has a shit ton of other drawbacks we'll have to wait for manufacturers to iron out slowly over the next decade.

THICC plasma tv is ok but the resoluton kinda sucks but its fine for me.

Fucking kill yourself retard.

why is your tv not rectangular

because its WIDE---SCREEN
This way i can watch porn of your mother without letterboxing

It is rectangular.

stupid dumbass

TV manufacturers need to constantly add new features so they can sell new TVs. 4k, 8k, HDR. All memes nobody needs. Why is it pushed? For profit. Not because noticeable improves your life.

>Samsung
you dug your own grave

only Sony and LG have decent non-oled HDR panels

Samsung's Quantum Dot shit is OK, but for that price range you can get an actual LG Oled panel which blows it out of the fucking water

>american education

Not to forget the forced advertising in Samsung TVs.

Disgusting

10 and 12-bit are not enough for HDR.
I'd prefer smooth gradients with 10-bit SDR than a heavy banded HDR.

>i'm too lazy to adjust and calibrate my tv
that's what I read.

>retards think HDR DRM shit is gonna increase their contrast and that it's not just the panel quality and local dimming which already exists that creates that

Enjoy turning art into looneytoonms you braindead techie American fucks. Pathetic

>turning art into looneytoons
Sometimes the artist wants that effect intentionally.

>sdo i'm just going to free associate with art and destroy it until I get it right one time
holy shit you techie nerds are so dumb it's laughable

>art into looneytoons
do you seriously think that this is what HDR does? it doesn't change the color palette, just increases contrast. It's a good thing, and objectively improves image quality

you're just an idiot who is too stupid to use a fucking television

>getting butthurt at Sup Forums

Ok techies stay blind and deluded lol.
