Tfw you've hoarded so much data over the years, it'd take a literal month to sort through all of it

How do you even deal with something like this?

Backup only your unique stuff. As in pictures you took with a camera, things you've created yourself, and text documents. Everything you copied from the internet has to go.

Burn everything to disc, throw it in the closet, and forget about it

Nooooooooo! But what about my music? My movies?! They are my babies, I couldn't possibly get rid of them!!!! What if I can never get them back...? There are some valuable 90's retro stuff in there that'd practically a crime to delete!

Yeah you're right, stuff like that should stay. Just be realistic about what you'll actually use.

I am this poster, but I almost agree with his line of thinking

don't get rid of absolutely everything, but only keep the things that are informative, and what you consider your favorite

after having done this myself, I have two external hdds. one has all the bullshit I've accumulated over the years, the other is just a 500gb one which is in with the lifestyle I've taken up now, it only has the files that I either need or consider my favorites

You can manually sort it, or just wait a few years for those fancy auto tagging algorithms to get more mature.

have they invented a deep learning algorythm yet to identify music you'd probably like?

Im sure if they haven't someone is working on it. Deep learning stuff is only really being done in labs and for PhD research stuff.

Give it 5-10 years for actual products and for all the bugs to be worked out.

Create a script to filter only the really necessary and compress it

Check what things you use.

If you haven't used something in a month or more - it's useless. Especially real life possessions. They're useless, throw them out. If you ever, somehow require them you can buy new ones.

Stop procrastinating and just do it. I'm currently sorting my data and its has been over a month, but I'm at the point where I am more or less satisfied.

This. I consider myself a minimalist. It doesn't mean you have to delete everything. Basically I just sorted everything where they should be, deleting files I don't want and having a sfw and nsfw for that. And of course having back up of the most important files.

ls -l | sort
Takes you maybe 5 minutes for a huge amount of data

You have nothing better to do in your life. No job. No friends. Nothing. Now get started.

You can whip up something to sort images using tensorflow. Just do preliminary sort into folders for training set. At least this works for me for distinct image types like anime, porn, wallpapers and reaction images.

Been working on something to better sort my anime images based on source series using tagged sets such as the boorus

University of Tokoy and University of Washington are both I believe working on image tagging software that should work to automatically tag character from movies, TV shows, and anime.

Just fuckin' do it. I'm doing it, it's great. Every hundred/thousand files is a time capsule and it shows just how shit this site has become and how fucking wrong people who say it's "always been shit" are.

doesn't that need a hugely training set to be effective?

I've been going back over my ~200 GB music collection, listening to all of it one track at a time. I started at the beginning of 2016 and I'm not even halfway through.

tl;dr you're screwed.

The basic one not too much since they are quite distinct. Trying to tag anime needs loads hence why I'm scraping boorus.

I literally just format the drive.

i've been here since 2009, tbqh, it depends on the board. I think Sup Forums had definitely gotten better (as a side effect of technology developing, threads are becoming more advanced in content)

However Sup Forums should be removed for a while, Sup Forums needs a thorough cleansing, and Sup Forums should be deleted permanently, with its users permabanned

>more advanced in content
There are ~19 General threads currently going. Outside of that it is mostly bait and shitposting

all my data from the 90s was destroyed by me with a hammer

Finally realize that I don't need the vast majority of the garbage and just delete it
