Aren't they inferior in every single way?

Melee

hubba hubba....

Who cares?

pls stop posting my bf on Sup Forums

thanks

1) Perfect black levels
2) Flawless off-axis viewing
3) Much faster refresh rate than LCD
4) Warmer, more natural image (thanks to scan lines and small granules)
5) Far longer life-span
6) Not subject to manufacture problems such as dead-pixels
7) Good range of compatibility with lower or non-standard resolutions without blurring

Given ultimate space and money the world's best CRT could easily crush the world's best LCD. So tell me Sup Forums, why do you like your inferior screens that companies such as Samsung have brainwashed you to think is better than what already existed? The only cost-savings are on their end.

And the funny thing is you guys keep buying this crappy LCD technology and giving away your free CRTs on Craigslist. A fool and his dollar are soon parted I guess.

And before you start yapping about IPS panels:
Enjoy your slow G2G response to switch pixels already, not to mention that hidden input and scalar lag. Luckily, CRT has no such bullshit.

The only semi-legitimate point I've heard against CRTs regards weight, but you don't bitch about the weight of a prospective couch while furniture shopping, do you? Didn't think so.

you literally chose the shittiest LCD you could find as an example.

>gaming at 4:3 aspect ratio
>not having a 144hz 1ms response time LCD display in 2017

In that pic, the LCD is way off-axis, while the CRT is dead-on. Very misleading pic.

The refresh rate of CRT is NOT better than LCDs. You can get 144Hz LCDs at 1080p or even 1440p fairly affordably. Can you say the same of CRT?

Warmer =/= better. Everyone bangs on about IPS being better than TN, but IPS is cooler. In any case, colour temperature is subjective, but the best is obviously adjustable, which is easily done on either type.

CRTs DO have manufacturing issues, not dead pixels of course, since they don't have pixels in the same way as LCDs, but of course they also have their own range of issues. However, all of the CRTs that are still alive today obviously weren't defective, all the ones that were defective have already died off. That doesn't make CRTs inherently better, it just means it's got years of QC from its previous owners.

And no, you can't reasonably make CRTs with the 'pixel' density of LCDs (no matter what 'ultimate' size and money means), and there are several other advantages too.

>analog signals
>4:3 aspect ratio
>plasma displays also have great black levels and no problems with viewing angle

that post gave me cancer
>plasma master race

I know some competitive gaming people, especially in fighting games, use it because it reduces latency.

>mfw my parents still have an ancient plasma tv from 2005

plasmas are no longer relevant because they couldn't keep up with increasing resolution while keeping costs down. that old 720p screen really shows its age as does the old gas in the pixels. like, white is now yellow. it's like f.lux is on it lol. it was pretty sweet in it's day though. I think oled will be the ultimate once people figure out the burn in issues because like plasma, oled pixels completely shut off for blacks

>ancient
>2005
you must be 18+ to post here

smash only.

FGC transitioned to asus monitors in 2009.

>autistic manchildren clinging to older inferior things due to nostalgia
lol makes sense
melee fags are dumb

>using CRTs unironically

Literally enjoy eye cancer

I love melee, but even koreans were able to move away from CRTs, atleast tournament streams have decent upscalers (like the xrgb mini for the main streams).

The colors look significantly better on a CRT. It makes a difference even when watching porn, things look way more real. You're better off with a LCD for stuff like regular internet browsing and work though.

>keep an old CRT and a N64 + PS2 in the computer room
>needs to be close to the router so I can play PS2 online
>get a lecture about my hoarding tendencies by every friend and parent

Holy shit its only 21 inches and its the only other television in my house why are people in such a hurry to chuck shit?

Maybe I am a hoarder, I'd save every CRT if I could.

>not realizing that 10 years in real life is 1 million years in technology time

I was 12 then you dumb nigger

Son its getting late, get of Fortune dot org slash gee and go to bed

What's the highest resolution CRT that is affordable right now?

There's really not a choice because of the gamecube.

...

CRTs support interlacing, no need to deinterlace bunch of stuff, nothing beats physics+brain

>I'd save every CRT if I could
same
my closet is full of them and my wife is mad but idgaf

Show her the gloriously low latency. She'll understand.

>you literally chose the shittiest LCD you could find as an example.
someone says that every time it's posted, but it was actually a pretty decent LCD at the time the picture was taken

Is the reason LCDs became mainstream because of consumer ignorance because it seemed like super futuristic tech and has muh thinness?

how old is the picture, then? because lcds these days don't suck ass provided you are an educated consumer, which most people aren't

i prefer the original ssb

Is IPS a meme? I don't find it much better than TN, I'm wondering if its just me.

its because they can get fuckhueg without weighing multiple tons and literally taking up an entire living room. bigger = better sometimes, especially for home theaters. imagine how massive a 65" 16:9 crt would be

IPS is objectively better than TN

lighter, easier to carry/move, less power usage
most people don't care about image quality
that was enough for them to catch on, manufacturers like them because they're cheaper to manufacture and ship

I think ips is a meme unless you really need the color accuracy because your living/profession depends on it

Why though?

My dad is a photographer and he had a TN monitor earlier for Photoshop and then he bought an IPS display. He says he misses the old one because the colours are better. He still uses his old ass Toshiba laptop to edit on the go too. Are the colours actually better or are they just cooler looking whereas the TN panels are warmer. I trust a photographer over the words of some bestbuy shill.

He was probably used to compensating for how off the TN was(baby duck syndrome). Either that or he got a really terrible IPS.

I guess I'm asking because I want to buy a 4k monitor for his birthday and I want something with good colours. Internet says IPS but he says TN so idk what to do in that case. Maybe install flux and make it warmer

Just get him what he wants, don't pretend you know more about what he wants than he does himself.

>install flux
Making it "warmer" doesn't solve the problem faggot.
The important thing is finding a monitor and a graphics card that outputs full sRGB colors. That's all there is to it. Be glad you weren't around when dumbasses wondered why an image they made onscreen looked better compared to its printed version.
Also, ask your dad what shade of gray is best to "neutralize" or "reset" your eyes from bright colors burning into your retina. Start using that as a desktop background.

high end crts are good. the cheaper crts are shit. anything where the image thing is round belongs to trash

>the image thing is round
wat

I think he means the glass display being convex?

has some impressive tits if so, would love to see his dick

surely not, "flat" CRTs were shit
the screen was convex for a reason, to allow the beam to hit the screen perpendicular/at a consistent angle, with a flat display, the beam hits the screen at a shallower angle the further from the centre you get, blurring the image

Ah the old "everyone who looked at a TV or computer screen before LCD took over in 2007 has cancer" meme.

fuck off child

I'll take your word on your claim when I see its nuts and dick.

>Maybe install flux

On a photographer's screen? Holy shit, that might be the dumbest thing I've EVER read on Sup Forums, just wow...

>What does this 'Trap' mean? I have seen it on here quite a lot of late.
>A trans woman who is very feminine and has a penis.

>>A trans woman who is very feminine and has a penis.

the flat sony crt i used to have had good image quality and supported high resolutions.

Cute boy

they can be fine if they're not too "thin", not widescreen, or not very big
even when it's not a noticeable negative, it's still not a positive, which the first guy suggested

i've seen 17" flat computer monitors which it was barely noticeable, but then you have 30"+ widescreen flat tv's where the sides of the image were quite blurry on sharper media such as DVDs

blip blip

They are comfy cat perches and the picture quality is unmatched.

i am using a LCD now but i really feel like getting a widescreen high end crt just for fun.

>picture quality is unmatched.
This isn't true anymore since around 10 years.
Stop with this meme.

Are higher end crts quiet? I can't fucking strand that high pitched whine

i miss having a cat on top of my tv/monitor

It is true, sorry your brain doesn't take into consideration that your opinion isn't fact.

I'd fuck it into the stratosphere either way

It really isn't.
It may have the best picture quality you poor faggot can afford, but that doesn't mean it is the best.

>I can't fucking strand that high pitched whine
It will be silent when you grow up.

The 411 is that cats on CRTs is older than the internet.

Build a shelf right above the monitor.

Can you repeat the question?

it's not the same, and cats know it

quints confirm

We used to have like 30 at my parents' house and we threw out just about all of them. Most of them really were shit, but thinking back I think we threw out some nice ones 1600x1200 or greater. I think they were ViewSonic.

Have you ever used an IPS monitor for more than a couple seconds? SSDs are absolutely a meme unless you want them for their lack of moving parts in things like laptops, but IPS monitors are not a meme. They look so much better it's not even funny. I recently went from 2x ASUS vh222h monitors to 2x HP ZR24w monitors and everything looks ridiculously better. I also have an X220T with an IPS panel that I used to prefer to all my other laptops + the desktop monitors.

the shelf won't be warm

>5) Far longer life-span
What are the common failure modes for post-capacitor plague LED-lit LCDs? All I'm aware of is LED phosphor burnout. Do those go sooner than a CRT's phosphors? Because they're driven harder?

Ohh~! If I could just fart onii-chaaan!~

I own four CRTs because I host Melee meetups. Blip blip

Has a cis woman ever attended?

As someone who has both a 144hz 1ms 1080p monitor and a 1440p 80hz CRT I can safely say that colors look much better and the higher resolution is nicer.
5:4 is much more comfier then 16:9, but the space and weight can be an issue for some

Put a heating pad on it. They're also useful for making shitty bread rise faster.

I'm sure this picture is AT LEAST 5 years old, probably as old as the copy-pasta that triggered your fragile internet ego.

Remember when it was a big deal for an LCD to have a 400:1 contrast ratio? xD

remember how then every company decided to use their own meassurement?

Autism, dementia

Some of the guys bring their girlfriends to tournaments sometimes. There are two half-decent female players in my scene, although all of the actually good players are men and the Melee scene is 90%+ male.

But I don't play video games or have hobbies to hang out with girls. If you want to hang out with girls, go to a bar or ask a girl on a date or something.

LCD/LED monitors can't display non-native resolutions without looking like shit.
>the world's best CRT could easily crush the world's best LCD
Figuratively and literally.

>when old people set the resolution low to make things bigger, instead of enabling UI scaling

Not every game supports every resolution. Emulators and VNs are a great example.

>inb4 Sup Forums

If you play visual novels, other than novelty ones like Hatoful Boyfriend, it's time to reevaluate your life.

I'm jelly

>implying it doesn't do exactly the same thing

I just want newer monitors to scale sub-HD stuff without looking like ass.

The latency of typical LCD screen over a CRT one is usually 20-100x higher.
CRTs have no native resolution, so every resolution can be nice and sharp. They also have nicer colours than a regular TN panel.
And some people just don't feel like switching i guess.

That makes it even better.

my CRt is my favorite of the three

I was thinking of buying a CRT monitor for old games. But space -is- definitely an issue.

Which model is it?

Dell P1110

That would look better with a Kensington trackball.

That's kinda tempting. I wonder if I can find one in my country for a reasonable price.

>tfw your video card has no analog outputs
>tfw you have success using xrandr to render on you main card and output via the analog ports on an old one but the radeon drivers eventually hardlock when doing so
