like said java does all of this and you just have to learn 1 language. Performance difference is minimal. The only downside I see is the vm taking too much ram, but you can just use a minimal vm to keep it down.
you can also learn any language made for the jvm if you dislike java
1. those programming languages are not that different, what you need to "learn" is how to compile and how to run, you pick it up in less than a week.
2. You can make software for all platforms using C, C++ and java.

Objective-C and .Net are circle jerk langauges onli suported by their respective platforms if you want to use them out of that loop you could use some hacks but not worth the pain, so easy solution for you, dont develop to close source tools. Also you forgot Java Adroid, thats not portable to.
Use languages that feature porability dont end up in the hive mid, code like 5 years for them and then after that time realize that you are a Win/Mac/Android fag

T420 has a shitty screen and at least in the US they're about $100 used. I switched to a Dell E6430. Glorious screen, stronger housing, subjectively better looks. Easier to repair too.
