What's wrong with VLC?

So far I did not have any trouble with it.

Shit at seeking
Cant do 4k hardware decoding
Shit ui

In other words, it doesn't meet the needs of autistic neckbeards.

Its a Video Lan Client henceforth VLC.

You should use MPC-HC because it is a Media Player Classic.

The name says it so.

Nothing. It's the best player (:

Are you fucking insane?

It is not fucking normal to have to wait 60 sec gor VLC to start a fucking file on a network share.
It is not fucking normal to have VLC shit itself when playing Ultra HD content
It is not fucking normal to have VLC present disgusting bending
It is not fucking normal to have VLC miss subtitle files in samba shares

VLC is a sorry-ass media player. Do not put its deficiencies on "not catering to neck beards" or something as inane.

take your 'tism pills bro

>no hardware accelleration

MPC-HC doesn't have this problem

...

>>no hardware accelleration
It has.

>>defaults to limited color range on full color range monitors
No, it respects the setting from your GPU's control panel and NVIDIA defaults to limited.

>>default download button on their website is a 32bit version
Not all codecs have 64-bit counterpart, for the average user x86 version of any player is better.

>>can't save settings into a .reg file
>what is vlcrc

>>uploads all your file's metadata to their servers by default "for album cover art technology"
No, it doesn;t by default.

>>takes 5 seconds to seek in movies that use MKV as container
No, it's not as fast as MPC-HC set to "last key frame" but it's not that much slowr. It's less than half a second for me.

>>saved screenshots is hardcoded into "VLCsnap-20149141034.png" so that you will never remember from what movie that screenshot came from
You mean it's name? You can change that.

>>can't make contact sheet of thumbnails
>i can't use ffmpeg waaaahh

They use the same resources, except MPV which is known to be shit.

gave you the numbers, vls has an issue with idling, along with vlc demanding damn near 20% more processing power then everything else,

also gave you the file I used so you can replicate.

you give me at best an outlier if not just a blatent lie.

>vls has an issue with idling
You are retarded

VLC is the best but Sup Forums can't handle anything that works so Sup Forums always has to search for flaws.

...

VLC is buggy shit that only has users because it can play shitty old formats.

>same resources
Shill somewhere else

Internet Explorer is popular too. Chew on that.

actually I loved pre-version 1 VLC. at that time torrents became a thing. while real player and others got slow and full of ads, VLC was not only free and played codecs you usually had to buy, it also played media chunks downloaded by torrent. which was really needed because when your bandwidth was limited and you usually took a whole night to download one episode of Hanaukyo Maid Tai. I was pretty bad when you didn't check the media chucks and find out the next day you downloaded either the spanish sub version or it was simply some disturbing porn someone with wrong Name/Describtion.

Well, I think it started either with v0.99 between 1.05? It lost the ability to play chucks. Sad but at least it was still free then.

>can't defend his choice in software other than calling people autistic

vlc users are seriously some of the most autistic users in the world I swear on me mum. When you demonstrate that superior players exist, it's like talking to my parents or something. "well I don't wanna learn something new sounds difficult."

Why do you care about "idle" CPU usage? If you are legitimately affected by your CPU being slightly loaded, close the program if you aren't using it.

In fact, why do you care about CPU usage of a player at all? Obviously your computer is overpowered for all of them. All of them are resource hogs, just pick the one that works best for you.

Also, this is poorly done, you need to show that you recorded CPU usage for exactly the same segments of video playback, and the Windows resource monitor cannot do that for you. On top of that, you tested only a single video format.

Call me a VLC shill, but I actually use MPV.

It's fine.

Sup Forums hates everything that is popular, that's all.

>Very Large Cone
Do you need further explainations?

Joking aside vlc it's mostly fine but it's in no way comparable to mpv.
Mpv is lightweight, fast and has tons of features and the interface it's just overall better.

MPV's interface is non existent

Non existent > bloated
Besides, windows build has all you need in the UI.

>windows build has all you need in the UI
Not even a repeat button, lol. It lacks all the basic functionality of a player.

I have been away like a year from Sup Forums and people still asking the exact same inane questions every single day?

Amazing.

>repeat button
>video player
Why would it need one? You can always make it loop the video or an entire playlist. So yeah, it can repeat videos. It lacks nothing.

I quite like it for most things but seeking is an issue with some codecs. I don't have the same problem mpv but mpv is way, way less featureful.

I don't think you understand what basic functionality is. Hint, repeat isn't one. What do you consider "basic"?

>What do you consider "basic"?
A repeat button, a shuffle one, volume control slider and mute icon, play/pause buttons, a stop button (pause is not stop).

she's a troll

It has everything except shuffle and repeat from what I know. And those 2 are only useful for music players.

It keeps bluescreening my pc on episode 6 of Absolute Duo.

These VLC vs. MPV threads are ridiculous. Yes, MPV probably plays video better than VLC, with less resource usage, but people seem to forget that VLC does way more than MPV ever will. It has built-in transcoding, editing, and filtering settings as well as screenshot generation (e.g. taking screenshots every x seconds/minutes with timestamp) and a/b clipping and network file support. You can't toss a YouTube URL into MPV and stream it to a local file. You can do this with VLC.

If you just want to watch video, grap MPV, if you want to watch video AND fuck around with it, grab VLC.

>MPV probably plays video better than VLC
It doesn't.

It's not mpv or even MPC.

>What's wrong with VLC
You dont need to be an autist obsessed with config files and the CLI to use it.
It will fuck up some details in rendering some mangas encoded with some autist encoders.
And somehow on my current install it lags when playing dvds, whereas mplayer does not, as I learned after autisting around in the manpage for hours to get that fucker to actually play a dvd.

It does. VLC is a buggy mess.

You can do all that on MPV.

>>default download button on their website is a 32bit version
Sorry, but if you are downloading it from their website (unless you are downloading the source) you loose any and all rights to autismo complaints.
Use fucking linux like a normal turboautist.
The default download is what your package manager gives you and if that is 32 bit, well, you win because you are probably running something ancient.

The
Best
Media
Player
with MPlayer or MPV

Try it out (or go pure cli with mpv / MPlayer)

Use whatever you want to to play back your shitty yify encodes user. I don't fucking care. Meanwhile I will continue to watch my 1080P Bluray remuxes through MPC-BE + MadVR on my OLED TV.

Yes guys, let's all learn to agree to disagree. And agree that the true best player out there is Potplayer.

It doesn't. MPV is a resource hog mess.

It's not

It is.

you still havent posted your log file and config

> Implying she knows how to config it

This is default last build. Here is dxva2-copy hw decoder and direct3d output with the build from November.
