Hyperloop

there's some kind of Hyperloop competition going on this weekend at SpaceX and they have a livestream that just started

spacex.com/hyperloop

no idea what to expect

what do you think

lots of prerecorded stuff

3 launches to go with 35 minute pauses each, because they need to pump out the air..

one girl has a pod with a compressor on the front..

how the fuck it's useful in near vacuum?

>vacuum tube
>a fucking turbine

FUCKING SERIOUSLY

>when it doesn't work
>wahh patriarchy broke me pod!

kek

what a fag

were any one of the pods launched yet?

That was the original hyperloop cpncept IDIOTS.

nope, still waiting

Why all the aerodynamic designs

Can't wait for it to fail.

can't wait to see those things crushed in thousand pieces because of shit structural integrity

what do you mean the idea is brilliant? it will revolutionize the transportation!

Elon is genius!

...

TUUUUUBES!

first contestant, finally

DOESNT WORK

You forgot to add the hypertube compressor and nosecone assembly with Sup Forums logo. hurry! Redraw it so we can enter the compo.

Well it just did faggot

so i dont understand, are they just prepping to run it or what

Sup Forums tier hyperloop prototype

Because the tube isn't 100% vacuum, its something like 1000x lower pressure than normal. Air drag is still significant at hyperloop speeds

Source: I was at the TU Delft hyperloop design presentation

>barely 100 km/h
>air drag is non neglegible

>hyperloop
>100km/h
What are you smoking user?

The run they just did hit 93km/h
These are low-speed test runs as proof of concept designs

So? Do you think they create a separate design for the low speed tests? These tests are really useful to see if their design matches their calculated efficiency

>These are low-speed test runs as proof of concept designs
>as proof of concept designs
>proof of concept

i think its 0.5 psi

but each team can set it to their specs. one has it at 10psi

>that mixed couple
oy

You do PoC runs to see if your design works, and this includes measuring P/v data. The aerodynamic shape is an important factor here. And again you only want to design a hull once and not waste your time with redoing it later

It's a trade off between drag on the vehicle and energy cost of the pumps. Pretty interesting to see the difference between all the teams

But how are they verifying the concept if they aren't doing it at sonic velocities? What about scaling laws, reynolds numbers, and mach numbers?

I am going to guess they did already simulate aerodynamics in software and wind tunnels that already exist for airplanes?

Except this won't work in wind tunnels that exist for airplanes. The boundary condition with the tunnel and ground is different. You would need very strange wind tunnel to test this, one where all the walls moved.

>>simulate aerodynamics in software
they did, but that's not enough for a verification

>It's out again
ree

Looks like it's going in now, this time for sure. Enough with the teasing

aww yeah they're wrenching it down now.

Next up tube depressurization. It's slow.

Can you feel the hum of the vacuum pumps Sup Forums? Can you feel it?

about 30 minutes now Sup Forums. Yeah depressurize that tube baby. Suck that air real good.

SUCC

it's a big tube

For you.

And there we have it folks, fail.

Did it reach the speed it wanted to, and then stop after breaking the record? Or did it stop in the middle because it failed?

German team deserves the win

I think Delft exceeded their original record just before they broke down.

Also, what was the white gas appearing behind the pod?

The pusher is diesel powered

MiT bamboozles everybody once again.

>his face when

Hyperloop is just another Elon Musk scam designed to separate taxpayers from their money.

I love Thunderfoot, but I still want to believe in this project.

the bulk of his arguments are with the pipes themselves.

Ask any petroleum engineer who specializes in piping to watch the video and he will probably smash the computer in anger

we KNOW how to make pipes. We know how to make them safe. We know how to make them work with the hyperloop design.

The piping should be the LEAST of the worries.

It's two model s motors with a battery pack

>I love Thunderfoot, but I still want to believe in this project.
believing in it won't make it happen. It will just make us all poorer since opportunity cost is high and we won't get high-speed train (which works),
