Literally the best user interface for any non-PC machine ever made. It's a goddamn shame that Sony Entertainment (of Murica) got rid of it for the PS4.

And the Vita. LiveArea (more specifically the lack of even a choice to have XMB) is my only gripe with the it.

I wish the default Kodi interface was more like the PS3s

I kind of miss when things had more hierarchy. Maybe it was a few extra mouse clicks, but at least you could usually use common sense to fumble through the menus when you were looking for something

XMB was nice but I hated how Sony just kept adding icons(ads) for irrelevant services to it. Most of them didn't even try to fit with the theme either.

I never understood the hate for Unity. No one can ever tell me why they hate it or what it does to piss them off so much. The only thing I hear complaints about is the amazon shit which has been reduced just to a weblink now since you can easily get rid of amazon searches.

Vista's the only time Aero ever looked good but it got old fast

this was such a cool thing back in the day with CFW, tons of homebrew software and you could run ISOs and do pretty much anything with it

PS3's XMB was the shit and still my favorite console UI, it's so simple yet so good.

here are some details I remember of it:

>wallpaper support
>you could use the PS3's web browser to download and install themes.
>icons had chromatic aberration
>you could control the menu with a keyboard or even a mouse

I loved my ps3 mostly because of the little details Sony put on it, there's a shitton of features/details I'm forgetting but I can tell you for sure that the XMB is a very well-made UI

I started one once, mostly to recreate Lakkas UI on android. But I spent just an evening on it and stopped when I would have to filter apps by categories / display roms for emulators.

it's like microsoft hires real UI designers for the first versions of things, then hand it off to interns to "maintain and update" them

I seriously don't see what is supposed to be so great about the XMB. It's so much fucking scrolling it is seriously ridiculous.

You can customize it with themes and icon packs. Autohide and I'm pretty sure you can remove it entirely, but don't quote me.
