Man, I just opened Groove for the first time, its very neat. First it actually found all my music files without reorganizing the folder structure, and as far as I can tell, without placing a bunch of temp files in those folders.

but the best part is that it automatically found my somewhat hidden Playlist .mu3 folder, and loaded all my playlist in a nice easy to see side bar.

Why make it small when you still have 80% of the screen empty? The layout changes depending on the size of window, so if you made it smaller it would probably take the whole window...

Microsoft is actually more service-oriented than product-oriented, if you couldn't tell by their "free" OS.

Windows design is typically pushed up through consultant and manager needs, rather than down from UI designers. Their surface and phone (RIP) divisions don't fit into that schema though.

Microsoft also prioritizes fixing bugs over making general improvements to the OS. This explains why they are more popular with businesses than consumers.

They tried to change the kernel to new less-bloated Windows RT, but it wasn't a big hit...

While I agree, I do wish macOS got that missing piece, which is the gaming market. It's getting jack shit this year. Fucking late ports because Linux became the new kid in the block. It also handles graphics terribly.

It supports league of legends and civilization VI which are all I play, well. I'm quite happy on macOS.

I shoud add, I can run civ VI on high settings at 1080P and max settings on league at 4K with like 100+ fps even with lots of animations at once. Averaging 150 FPS. I think the r9 m380 is about the same performance at least as a 260x, which my old gaming computer had. It's not amazing but it gets the job done. And the 5k screen on this iMac is amazing.

It's obviously unsupported, but very functional. I've been using hackintosh for 5 months, went back to Windows/Linux just to see if I could somehow adapt (and this is considering I've been using the previous ones for almost 15 god damn years) and went back, because under my build which is cheap and shitty and -I swear- I didn't buy for this specific purpose, it runs pretty fine.

I can understand why it would not work properly with my hardware, but it works rather well for what it is. I have only an issue with somewhat longer boot times and that I can't put it to sleep, but I really didn't use sleep or hibernate on this thing to begin with and consumption ain't brutal either.

That said I do understand it can be real fucking finicky on different setups, and obviously I do have incompatible hardware (specifically a sound card I have around just in case my integrated sound card ends up dying, because I found out it ain't much better). The most annoying part is updates and to be specific, the big ones (that is 10.11 -> 10.12 -> 10.13 and so on).

And that I have cheap shitty monitors. It makes me sad that when I use hDPI modes they look really good, but everything is fucking giant. That's a hardware problem though.

Don't get me wrong, I like the OS a lot and I can still dual boot. It's just something that it is lacking on and I do know a few people who would gladly try this, but just like they don't use Linux distros for that reason, they don't do macOS or hackintosh either (not that they aren't savvy enough to get hackintosh working either).

Edge itself is a faster browser, the interface it has is atrocious, same with Windows 8/10 this metro bullshit needs to go, now macs are over price but their user interface is pretty decent and the best I've seen so far, hopefully Microsoft can take a page from their playbook and spend some time on aesthetics.

Actually, the reason it's all over the place atm is because they are ripping out parts of the desktop while installing new ones.
Basically, since project onecore, they've been trying to streamline as much as the OS across all devices as much as they can.
Basically, turn it into windows core+platform specific stacks(phone shit/xbox shit/win32 shit/holo shit, etc.).
But afterwards, they've started to munch a lot of useful stuff that remained on various platforms into windows core(see xbox game mode, snapping apps, etc) to streamline it even more.
At one point, they realised "hey, explorer.exe is a hacked together mess that has its tendrils into the kernel, file explorer, browser, etc. and would be much easier as a universal, adaptable thing that morphs depending on the devices"
So they've been chopping it to pieces and replacing it with stand-alone uwp apps without dependencies.
Which is why the new file explorer is a beefed up windows mobile file manager, which they threw our IE and made edge, and the white taskbar you see is probably the WIP composable shell.

wow. I didn't think it was that bad at somewhere like MS. that's.. honestly reassuring, because it makes my work sound amazing by comparison. Of course I don't have thousands of hands touching my shit so its easy to keep organized, but god damn it sounds like MS would be better off making a small team who could agree on a vision for the OS and then have them delegate tasks out to the sub-teams..

If there is something that Steve Jobs was completely right about is the fact that Microsoft has no taste, no consistency, no interest whatsoever about design.

Just look at the terrible rendering of everything, and they're teasing it as some beautiful revamp. It's incredible.

Such a missed opportunity. They're completely downgrading the file explorer to something worthless. And people complain about Finder, or Thunar.
