got laid off today
>BS in Computer Engineering
>1.5 year of embedded systems experience for a startup
>1 year of QA Engineering for Enterprise software
>Know Java and Python
>7k in the bank
>be in SF
>Rent is 2k a month
>I'm in San Fran
>I budget about 3 months before I go broke

what are my options?

>2k a month
That's actually pretty cheap in that area.

>not getting a severance

Move to some place cheap and apply for Big Oil Corps.

Thank me later.

Polish resume and apply for jobs 12 hours a day all over the country.

I know, I don't wanna lose my lease (at least not yet). I've queried HR for unemployment benefits.

So far my plan is to budget shit out until I get a roommate to split 2k, bringing my rent to 1k

I don't see big oil corps posting jobs in indeed.... that's the only job board I look in, any other suggestions?

kill yourself. no other option

craigslist

Leave SF, don't come to Seattle though. California laws suck anyway and the only good thing about the entire state is the SF Giants.

Go to Austin, TX.

Move to the Midwest. Or Somalia.

Considering how Trump's going to destroy American industry in a couple of years you might as well move to Somalia.

>autistic NEETs with no friends, family, or anything else resembling a human connection thinks normal people can just move across the country

best way? I rather it be painless and not gonna end with my corpse in the news

haven't had good chances there, I always landed interviews in indeed though. Any tips?

I know no one in Texas and I'd rather have someone pay for relocation... so I can consider it

you've fucked up in so may ways.
1. a BS is worthless, why didn't you at least get your MSc ?
2. you've worked for 1 1/2 year and only have 7K in savings ?
3. how the fuck can you only know java and python when you've worked with embedded systems ?
4. either your rent is way over your budget, or you have no idea how to handle money.
5. no unemployment insurance

1. because I got a job right after graduation
2. all loans paid... not an excuse though
3. I know C/C++ and Motorola Assembly as well but not comfortable to put it in a resume after not doing it for a year
4.it was 1k until my roomie moved out 2 weeks ago
5.I got savings and trying to apply for unemployment right now

how about some things to do instead of things I fucked up on?

>how about some things to do instead of things I fucked up on?
but... but i want to go on with my list ?

6. seems like you failed to make a contract with your roommate

there isn't really anything you can do, apply for other jobs, hope you get some unemployment benefits, find another roommate, or move into a place you can actually afford. and start saving money.

Put it on your resume anyway retard

>laid off
Meaning you were terminated by no fault of your own, right?

Doesn't California have one of the best unemployment benefits systems in the country?

If I were you, I would contact someone about unemployment benefits, you should be able to just google "california unemployment benefits process" or something similar

Get the fuck away from that money pit and find a job somewhere else

How much dosh were you making previously?

Embedded experience is great if you live near a hackerspace.

Do you know any proto boards? You could put together a quick class in Arduino or rasberry pi or some variant of that while you wait for a job opening. Look into local community classes. Just title it "Hardware Hacking" and work them up to a router using openWRT or something.

Just sayin. Don't panic.

>Know Java
>Have degree
>~3 years of experience
You should be able to get a job. Do this:

If you don't want to leave sf, buy a used rv and live in it till you find a new job nigga.

If I was in your position I'd get a new job within a week, I don't see why you're being so scared.

It's very common to be laid off being a programmer. Maintain good relationships with coworkers and former employers, and try not to let it get to you. There are halve a dozen reasons this will happen throughout your career.

>It's very common to be laid off being a programmer.

Only if you suck.

Google "Dice job ads"

interesting.... got a site where I can host a class or something? I can teach basic I/O and PWM, and probably rebuild an arduino from an atmega chip

just got back from first round of job crawling... pretty surprised at how much shit I'm qualified for now... enterprise? I got that shit, startup culture? I got that shit, I just need job boards to crawl I guess

where the hell am I gonna park it? I'm okay with leaving SF, not okay with losing 1 of the best leases I'll ever get in SF

the 7k in bank and 2k a month just in rent is haunting... I've never had such a high burn rate in my income... not even in college where my cost of living was just $600+ ramen

I thought being in software engineering was comfy...

applying for jobs from Dice takes so freaking long it's not even worth it sometimes.... there's like 6-7 pages of shit... any better ones?

>I'm in San Fran
fuck yes is the crash starting?
Can't wait for the SF tech scum to suffer

I also got laid off because our company is moving to Singapore due to uncertainty around Trump and H1B visas

>san francisco
you're fucked, you need to move to a different state entirely

This guy gets it.

1. Move to India
2. Outplay the street shitters at their own game

All major software companies are projected to move their Head Offices to India. Software is not a physical commodity, no issue of tariffs.

still employed today
>no degree in CS, self taught from a young age
>15 years of experience
>senior programming position
>$400k in the bank
>rent is $800/month and planning on retiring to a place like Chile or the Phillipines when I hit 40
>I'm not in a fag city
>should have enough in my budget to live for the rest of my life when I retire

shouldn't have fallen for the silicon valley meme

Put it on your resume, you'll pick it up again.

You have to go back

I got a BS in engineering and work as a home automation technician.

If embedded programming and Arduino stuff is my hobby, can I give classes too?

What would you do in such classes? Just order chinese arduinos and sensors for everyone and show them how to use them and program them? Where I live is no hackerspace, but maybe some interested people, just would have to think about classes.

I move across the country every few years. I have family that I just fly to see worst case and I make new friends. I have friends all over the country now. To me it is you who is the autismo that can't talk to people and make new friends.

>destroy American industry
American industry was already destroyed.

Contracts will fall through, companies will outsource to save money, management will go full retard. There is no such thing as a safe tech job.

I dunno, but as a fellow job seeking neet in SF I pity you.

>>be in SF
This was your mistake

>Go to Austin.

Please don't. We don't need anymore refugees from California.

move to new england

> not okay with losing 1 of the best leases I'll ever get in SF
You'll lose it anyway. Then no RV and no lease. Welcome to the bum society.

We in Seattle get too many Commiefornians too and now they're raising our rents and putting forth stupid new laws.

It's almost too late for Seattle though. Sad!

If you're hot you can always try working as a male escort or masseur.

Wrong. You think a normie manager knows what talent is when it comes to anything technical?

>let's go to San Francisco so I can get a job and make just barely enough money to live in San Francisco for as long as I hold the job.

Well at least you got the experience, now go to Utah with all the other tech people who can't afford to live in San Francisco.

did you get fired?

Actually yes, I was made redundant a few months ago, along with ~100 other people. I was paid nicely (and got a better paying job straight away) so I hold no resentment, but the company was not smart in who they let go.

>QA engineer
>engineer

look for postings on Craiglist that refer to a company website, then you can check them out for yourself

>so I hold no resentment

sure buddy
