My R9 280X is barely hanging on to life and needs to be replaced sooner rather than later. I'm not a gaymer, but I play the occasional AAA title at 1080p/60Hz. Is there any reason not to get the Poweredge Red Devil RX 480 except for it being over the top edgy? I'm mainly looking for a quiet card and reviews say it's at the quieter end of the spectrum and at 250 Europoorshekels it's one of the cheaper 480s.

How long am I gonna be able to play nice games with nice settings with this? Does a 1070's additional power for 1080p/60Hz justify almost twice the price, considering Jewvidia is gonna nerf it with the next driver update?

Why the FUCK is there no RX 490 for ~330 - 350 bucks?

Should I just wait for Vega?

The 480 is an excellent card for long term prospects.
The 490 is way too far away, and the 1070 is, well, a stronger card but you're kinda wasting money going that high.

>RX 490
There will be no RX 490, Vega will be the RX 500 series

The Red Devil is okay, but the XFX GTR and MSI Gaming X are by far the best 480s.

This.

Also, personally I'd get a 470 instead, quite a bit cheaper and doesn't fall behind much.

>The 480 is an excellent card for long term prospects.
doesn't even run last years titles at 1080p 60fps lmao

I have the same card OP, I'm thinking about getting a 1060 for 1080p.
Not because I think nvidia is top shit now, 1060s are just cheaper here than the 480.

Don't skimp out.
Get that XFX GTR 480.

It does, just not at ultra settings.

What do I need for 1080p/60Hz at ultra settings? 1070?

This. I thought GTX 1060/RX480 was enough.

an rx490 is enough i have an r9 390 and i run everything at ultra with 60 fps, this faggot is just shilling novidea

rx480*

It completely depends on the game but an RX480/1060 is "enough" for 1080p/60 Hz setups. Spending any more is kind of a waste, because even though you could force either of those GPUs to dip below 60 with everything cranked to ultra, the jump in cost to a 1070 is so great that it's just not worth it at 1080p.

If you can wait till your GPU dies it would be better.
I have a stock rx480 and can run what I need in 1080p 60fps ultra/very high the downsides are the gimpworks /Nvidia proprietary game effects

This.

Except for two or three games, the 1060/480 can run everything at 60fps/1080p on ultra.

Yes it does, do you even own one or, are you just
reading benchmarks?

Kek

Retards telling people to buy a RX480 or GTX1060.

The upcoming titles will already break down your shitty cards.

Why would invest into new cards which are just a bit faster than the GTX970 several years ago?

Stupid tards

Also, why wouldn't you want to run Ultra settings?

This

Wait for Vega. If you can't and need to have something right now, but are prepared to spend a lot more, buy a 1070/1080.

Vega with HBM2 will be Highend only and will cost atleast 600 bucks I assume.

Get an r9 fury nitro from sapphire. They go for around the same price as a 480 and its performance is right between the 480 and 1070.

This.

Sub-par poorniggers will never EVER get a 1070/1080

375W is gonna push my PSU, I don't have a second 8 pin connector and the Fury is 50 bucks more than the Red Devil 480. No deal.

Nice meemees you cunt.

tear it down and blow it out, replace the thermal paste with some mx4.

my 390 is much happier now

I have this card - the only issue with it is it's fucking huge, so make sure it will fit in your case.

>375W is gonna push my PSU

What the fuck are you talking about? A Fury uses less power than the 7970 GHz/280X housefire you already have.

OP here, literally just bought a 1070 for 200 bucks, wish me luck.

What are those games? Probably some shit console port?

My 280x is still going strong. Great card.

damn woulda suggested a gtr (any variant) for the 480 because they usually have 70%+ asic quality and you could run it at 1300~mhz on the core at 1.1v (i have mine at 1400 at just under 1.2v)

But 200 for a 1070 is a good deal (unless it's the evga housefire edition.)

Just wait for the RX 5##

It's going to have a card that's basically twice as powerful in every metric as the 480, still on the Polaris architecture, and it'll probably be $350 MSRP in addition to the Vega HBM cards.

If you can't wait, I saw that 8GB RX480 Nitro on sale for $209 from Massdrop, and I saw an MSI RX480 8GB for $174. Considering those cards are just as fast as the 1070 in some games for half the cost, and 2x of them are as good as a Titan X on RE7, a 1070 or 1080 is a waste of money right now.

The 480 is a hell of a lot better than the 280 and uses a lot less power. It plays BF1, Doom, and most games at 60fps well. So it's a decent upgrade if you literally can't wait (especially since they keep going on sale to get rid of them as RX5## is coming), but I'd wait.

Vega is coming out in April or early May, it looks like.

BF1, Doom. Basically any 2016/2017 game that's not shittily programmed, it'll get 60FPS at max settings 1080p.

It gets 125 average FPS in RE7, as well.

It's pretty much the only card worth buying, right now.
The 1070 and 1080 are horribly overpriced. The 1060 is a better value than the 1070 and 1080, but it performs 20% worse in a lot of games while also costing more.

For $200 used, that's a fine deal if that works well.

New, but the scammer cancelled the transaction. Meh, not that I expected anything else.

Seeing as I can get a game code with the 1070, that's basically a 60€ discount, since I was planning to get the new Ghost Recon anyway. So it's 250€ for an RX 480 vs. effectively ~400€ for a 1070.

My favorite retailer has a sapphire deal week next week, if I get a good deal then I'll pull the trigger, otherwise 1070 it is. Overpriced or not, that's just how a monopoly works....

>tfw play most games 1440p 60fps without much issue
Only one that shows any real signs it might be overloading something is GTA V
And this is with a non-OC 8350 for a CPU, so I feel like that might be the bottleneck.

It's a good card.

Shit 250 fancy Es for a RX480?
You can get them in America for $174-$210.

400€ for a 1070 sounds like way too much.

>not a gamer
> < 4yo gpu hanging on for life
How did you manage that one?
