Greece and Finland = In Western Europe

>Greece and Finland = In Western Europe

>Poland = In Eastern Europe

How?

It's not all about location, it's surely affected by the history and way of living.

Like Japan is considered quite Western to many people because of their culture that has been Americanized however if any Japs disagree feel free to correct me.

I just don't know.

Ever heard of former soviet union?

>this meme map

We are not anymore in the Cold War. Spain is southern european.

>UK in Northern Europe
>Netherlands and Belgium in central europe
>Greece in western
>France not in Southern
>Netherlands not more Northern

Shit desu

The UK is both northern and western at the same time. That's just how awesome we are.

This is the most accurate one

Honestly, Western world should be defined by geography alone. Everything else is too subjective.

That's how.

Greece is considered Western (by some) because in the Renaissance, Western people sought to connect themselves with the Classical civilizations of Greece and Rome.

In reality, this is historically false and on top of that, it doesn't make geographic OR cultural sense. Greece is not Western.

I don't get how the UK is seen as a honorary nordic but holland isn't

Western Europe =/= Western country
two different concepts

What I was saying.

You ignore our culture which was Latin and as western as it gets.

But then again, no one really cares.

Poland is not Western either. You have always been in the Russian sphere of influence.

>You have always been in the Russian sphere of influence.
How so?

Russia didn't even exist through Polish Golden Age. You're uneducated and ignorant.

>How so

Communism, Russian empire for two.

I understand Netherlands is a young country, but you're comparing 200 years of misery to rest of 800 years of our history.

We didn't sit on trees during that time.

The past two centuries are more important than the hundred before that, my crypto-Russian friend.

>young country
???

Sure, the modern way of ruling has only existed for some 200 years, but there has always been an united peoples in our river delta.

>crypto-Russian friend.

If anything they're Poles raped by Finns

This.

>Russia didn't even exist through Polish Golden Age
I thought your GoldenAge was the Rzeczpospolita.

Did Russia exist in that time?
Golden Age starts with Casimir the Great

Poland is still a slavic country.

Well Sweden is geographically as eastern as Poland, it wouldn't make sense to consider Sweden Eastern Europe either

>59100185
>Well Sweden is geographically as eastern as Poland

exactly, holland is not as northern as the rest of Northern europe, but still very much a nordic country

off yourself

dit om eerlijk te zijn

Doesn't equal being Eastern.

>it's surely affected by the history and way of living.
I'm pretty sure that Slovenians have the same way of living as Austrians, and had had the same history as them until the past 70 years. Admit it, the division as we know it today is solely based on the cold war and communist/capitalist division in the 20th century, it has nothing to to with way of life or pre-20th century history.

>History
>Implying the entire eastern communist block has nothing to do with history.

I did actually imply it had to do with history, also we didn't call any part of europe anything before the 20th century.

Yes, but there is nothing else to base that definition on besides communist vs capitalist second half of the 20th century. You wouldn't call Czechia (one of the richest countries in Europe at that time) in the 30ies eastern European, would you? I'm not saying that it's wrong to define it that way, but saying that way of life is one of the criteria to define it is ridiculous.

I wouldn't call any european country for anything else than european m8, but i see your point.

I always thought Western Europe = non-communist countries during the Cold War

This is an Enlightenment division

Voltaire, who was a leading european intellectual at the time, thought that the West is enlightened and civilized and he saw Eastern Europe as this wild, savage place that needs to be civilized by the West

He thus gave Prussia and Russia a great argument for partitioning the PLC. Alte Fritz described Poles as Cherokees and Voltaire praised Catherine the Great who would civilize, through her enlightened absolutism, the wild nature of Russia and also the PLC

As well as German, so we're kinda in the middle

Western Europe = Roman Empire

Germs and Scandishits are not Western.

That makes no sense

>Czechia NOT western Europe

saged 2bh

>Syria
>Western Europe
Okay

UK = descended from Norse
Netherlands =/= descended from Norse

>implying there are Syrians in Syria
They're all in Western Europe so that makes sense.

western means rich and eastern means poor

Debt money doesn't make you rich, so Greece is still a question mark

Or having a relevant WE WUZ tier history then everybody thinks:

>wow this country did democraciez n shiet therefore it's Western Europe xDD

How is Fingolia not Eastern Europe?

>How is Fingolia not Eastern Europe?
It's your fault :^)

one drop rule

Wealth and culture. Also, you guys weren't able to take us over

Because your grandparents decided it's not worth having even more people die.

I'm really satisfied they fought well in that war. Fug I'd hate to live in a commie Europe tier shithole like we would if we had lost.

>Light colour on every map

Then why are former Yugo countries considered Eastern European? They weren't commies, they were socialists

>Grease
>Balkan

Why do so many people get this wrong? Balkan is literally everything that is north of Greece's border. The Greek mainland is technically part of the Balkan peninsula but Greece is simply not defined by the Greek mainland, much in the same way that Denmark isn't defined by their mainland.

See pic related? That's what Greece is. It's a collection of Archipelagos and the land that surrounds them.

we're northern too desu. We have access to the north sea
