I've lived in Korea for about 3.5 years now...

I've lived in Korea for about 3.5 years now, I've been a student for a most part and the last 6 months landed a decent job making about 60-80k/yr which is not bad for a 21 year old. This whole time I've lived in a shitty dormitory-like place near the university I attended for about $400/month. Keep in mind, $400 in Seoul doesn't get you much, not even a personal bathroom, and a cage-sized room.

In Korea, typically if you want to move into a place even remotely similar to a Western sized apartment, you pay up to 100-300 thousand dollars as a deposit and pay a fairly low rent price considering living in one of the most densely populated cities in the word (rent should be about $400-1500)

This is the part that rustled my jimmies. Even a graduate from the best uni that gets a job in the best company in Korea would rarely make 100k/yr for the first 10-20 years. So how in the fuck would an ordinary citizen ever be able to put down 200k before being 60 years old, just for an average sized/average luxury living space?

That's when I realized the only reasonable explanation is every single person living in a normal living space in Seoul (and ordinary people above age 28 do) is getting a bank to loan you the deposit money, which you pay interest for, to RENT a place. How the fuck is this not considered insane?

I understand cities in general are much more expensive. But nobody, even the top 3%, would be able to drop down 300k in their mid 20s/30s to rent a semi-livable place. How is this whole system not considered a fraud and why are the people not rebelling? topkek

W-Wait, is this South or North Korea?
Looks depressing as shit.

south korea reminds me little bit of the borg from star trek. Hivemind, which lives in copy paste cubes with big numbers on them.

AND they're cracking down on porn, to boot, AND they're as big on Jesus as Murrika, AND their idiot evil-brother neighbor is tolerated by the world community, but if someone gets flattened first (before NK does, in the following hours) it's most likely going to be SK.

Fuck Pepsi Korea.

I wish to add to this post that I've been sleeping with a fan on near me most every single night for over a decade. The ambient noise helps me stay asleep. I'm still using oxygen, kek

The apartments in the pic would actually be considered luxurious housing in Seoul. Housing/apartments are completely fucked up here, with most apartment complexes having been built in the 60s/70s and no technological updates to the structures since then.

I mean, you shouldn't expect much living in a city with 30+ million people, NYC housing is not that different. Except people working/living in NYC can always afford to rent an apartment that matches their salary; while that's quite impossible in KR

That picture looks like Russia, DELET IT!

>AND they're cracking down on porn
Good job you have people like Hyuna to jerk it to.

get off your proxy, nip

rooftop gardening would make those apartments look pretty ok tbqh

Nobody is seriously religious here, the religious people don't live in the city and if you openly admit to being super-religious people tend to avoid you like the plague. There are some conservative Christians around but they tend to be 95 years old

Porn has always been censored on the internet here, but some random shit is allowed due to freedom of press laws, like /gif/. Or you could just, you know, VPN

원으로 얼마나 벌어?
also i'm relocating to seoul for work too, will take a loan and get into real estate

If getting a good place to live is so difficult, what keeps you there?

>we fought to save South Korea from communism
>in the end, they got the worst aspects of socialism/communism and capitalism
How do we fix South Korea?

Korean here. Normal middle class parents usually give their children 100k when they marry. So normal newly married couples start their marriage life with 150k~200k. They also get loan from bank and pay deposit for normal apartment. And I also confirm that picture above is luxury living place in Seoul. Those old apartments have more chance to reconstruct into tall spacy new apartment so that the older apartment is more expensive in Seoul. Seoul has limited space so land is really precious. The reason why people buy those rotten apartment with crazy price is that they want to buy share of land and buy development potential. I think the size of apartment of the picture may be 85m^2. Price is 1m ~ 1.5m.

>how would an ordinary citizen ever be able to put down 200k
what. they wouldnt, and they dont need to. key money average is 8k~ US dollars. I dont know where you're getting your info from.

I think OP means '전세'(Jeonse) system in which tenants pay big amount of deposit like 200k ~300k and do not need to pay any monthly rent except utility and management fee. It is quite normal in Korea and most newly wed couples start with 전세.

Oh. He talked about rent so i thought he was talking about the key money + rent system.
It's a possibility to take into consideration though. You dont necessarily need to save 100~200k and go for 전세

If you need that kind of money why not just get in touch with friends or coworkers and buy a house or a big apartment.
I used to live in a shitty apartment last year in college, but me and my friends decided to rent a huge house in a nice place in Mexico city, We live like kings desu, well compared to rest of my classmates.
Also, I bet there are some people in the business of second hand 전세, meaning that they pay the whole deposit and charge you a certain amount of money each month. Don't know tho, in Mexico people always come up with new ideas to make money from other's dispar, if that system were to be implemented in here, it would be massively exploited in a heart beat.

these countries that anyone dont care always post very long sentence. And nobody want to read down.

wtf i hate japan now

>being a materialistic westerner
this was the size of my room at my uncles house in the Philippines. pretty comfy desu

100k...won? or USD?

t. flip

왜국인씨, 무슨 일 해요? 나도 한국에 살개요. Business degree가 공부 하고 있어요.

USD.

Of course USD. 100k looks a lot but 85m^2 shitty apartment in Seoul costs 0.7 million ~ 1.5 million(USD FYI).

Fuck brazil dirty animal

>How the fuck is this not considered insane?

Thats capitalism m8.

It is not normal here to live with friends or coworkers in one apartment. I don't know why but Koreans believe that people must live with their own family. But I've heard that home sharing or house sharing or something is spreading these days.

...

fuck you japanses!

Holy shit that's so much money

Make them your family.

Fuck you Germany, we would have won the war but you were weak.

don't you dare insult brazil you fucking nip monkey

I love how westerners laugh at our wages and asking "how do you even survive on 500$ for month?" And then turns out they hate to take loans to just rent a shitty flat with their 5000$ wage. Heheheheheh.

*they have to

Who the fuck are you with your nobody flag bitch nig

Too many old people

you're speaking to a British colony, nip monkey, have some respect

i agree, soory

russia haz almost no taxes, everything we earn 90% goes back to the goverment. and the goverment gives it to brown people. ;^)

500$ is a lot in russia. i would say 250$ is normal.

you need exactly 12000 rubles to survive in russia, did my math(moscow and petersburg exceptional)

You don't have to live like that in the US

>tfw making $45k per year
>Soon moving to Texas and buying a 4 bedroom house for $115,000
>Pool, 3 car garage and big yard
>It'll be paid off within 6 years

>45000#
>house 115000
>takes him 6 years

how is this possible ?

There are other expenses, like bills, supplies, etc

are this one of the paper houses ?

I don't mean to look like a cunt but I thought I'd help you on your English
Use "is" for singular instead of "are"
You'd use "is" in this instance because you're talking "one" of the paper houses

yeah, it would take me max 3 years with 45k.

for a cheap 115k house.

seems like bills and supplies arent cheap in us.

20% of the house is paid for in the initial down payment, that's $23,000.

The remaining balance on the home is $92,000.

This equals $15,000 per year, or $1,250 per month.

$45,000 per year income equals $3,750 per month.

Pretty simple.

*you're talking about
I try to help with someone's English while simultaneously fucking my own up

Yeah, they can cost quite a bit depending on where you live

Too many people period.

Why the hell would I spend close to 100% of annual income on house payments?

pls dont use the word "cunt" it is insulting. say vulva instead.

70% is okay y0.

pls dont use the word "vulva" it is insulting. say pissed meat hole instead.

Lol no fuck that. I like having the extra cash to put towards investments or to have as a safety net. Also want to buy a new car soon too.

your*

>tfw young Americans can afford a nice place to live and a car
>tfw 100k can buy you a decent house in the US
>tfw Americans can make up to 200k per fucking year

Why is this world so unfair?

yeah, american public transportation problems...

(You)

>yeah, american public transportation problems...
We have public transportation here too, but it's a lot fucking nicer driving a Mercedes than taking the fucking bus everywhere. Especially in summer weather.

>mfw Americans can just walk up to some guy and ask them for a job, to which they will agree
>mfw 50k starting

Fucking disgusting if u ask me desu

because it is fake money the federal jews print without stop. it haz no real value. this is why it is easier for them.

I want to live that apart!
So luxury

people actually died for that, especially indians, blacks and the poor british. thats called freedome.

>just walk up to some guy and ask them for a job,
>Not running your own business

>No
>In certain states in shitty neighbourhoods maybe?
>A really small percentage

Also remember their shitty food, healthcare issues and the 90% chance you'll get shot.

dont tell him!, let him move there..lol

>In certain states in shitty neighbourhoods maybe?
Nope. You can buy a decent house for that much in a middle class suburb

>Also remember their shitty food,
It's not like the government forces you to eat fast food here

>No
Yes. I can go out and get a Honda Civic for $200 a month and rent an apartment for $450

Korean friends,Lets steel japanese staff and improve life quality!!!like your old job, whore

If he he's not eating McDonalds every day and actually has a job he doesn't have to worry about your first two points. And a majority of Americans own cars, it's a pretty important thing here

Also 100k can get you a decently sized suburban home in most states. Did you learn everything you know about the US from Sup Forums? Are you retarded?

I've myself lived in the states, and the first point is definitely true. I was 18 at the time and most of my friends were 20-21. About 95% of them owned their own car and about 70% of them had their own place. And this was not even in a richer area. These kids were just making easy bucks working in retail or at car dealerships. I'm talking enough money to rent and take car of a car, along with going to a shitty comunity college.

It's ridiculous how one can get a decent paying job with no degree or experience whatsoever. People would have 2 or 3 fucking different jobs I shit you not.

i always thought japs were supposed to be like, polite or something

>>tfw 100k can buy you a decent house in the US
that is probably because most of their houses are made from the wood and as everybody knows wood houses are cheaper than brick houses

admit nanking

Nice meme. Though wood structures arent worse than concrete blocks + bricks, nor cheaper.

To put it simply....yeah you're getting ripped off by the chaebols that are politically backed and bankrolled by the USA.

Problem is you guys are too cuck to do anything about it. If it happened almost anywhere else there would be protest. But no you South Koreans and Japanese are stifled cucks.

Remember... they're fucking the pussy, you're just holding the tail.

The left one is boxing during freetime.

...

The OP isn't refering to a RENTED appartment.
He referes to buying you some space in a housing complex and owning it.
By owning a Flat or house in housing complexe, you agree to pay some additional shared costs. Like cleaning of the stairways gardening if a communely used green area or pool is part of the complex you have to pay your mounthly share. Even if you don't use them. or if you would prefere to clean the stairs your self &c.
You also might get a special bill for trash, wastewater, water heating, electricity if the community of the housing complex is also a group purchasing organisation(so they pool their marked power to get a discount).

While this is rare in Europe it seams like it is the standard in Seoul.

everybody know this propaganda.

I work construction. Wood framed houses are actually more expensive to build. There's a reason all 3rd world shitholes use brick and concrete: It's cheaper.

I've worked on both concrete and wood houses.

Germans hate debt. It's ok for you. Do as you do!
Also only 4 bedrooms? Why? 4 bedrooms is a flat.

So you get the following for 115 k?
>House with 4 beedrooms(Why not 5...) including two bathrooms and a basement.
>Everything made of solid material (Porotherm bricks or autoclaved aerated concrete)
>Double walled construction to get allmost 100% heat isolation
>outside walls made of clinker so you don't have to bother to renow or paint the plaster.
>Trippel pane windows with elektric shutters
>Controlled air exchange with pollenfilter and recuperator
>State of the art heating or cooling with air heatpump
>Underfloor heating
>Used water energy recuperation (because it's only 500€)
>Pool + poolheating + dehydrating breather to get your pool room air dry

Pretty amazing...
why is everything so cheap in the USA?

>Nope. You can buy a decent house for that much in a middle class suburb
You don't know what "decent house" means.
The moment you said "in as suburb" it stops beeing a decent house.

Also you refere to a papermashe houses as "decent house" do you?

Most stupid post ever.
You can buy a swedish-style or ready-made-house (no one sells them as wood-frame-hut) over here. They cost half of a real house and they suck.

>House with 4 beedrooms(Why not 5...) including two bathrooms and a basement.
I could have probably found one with five rooms, but I don't plan on ever having more than 2 kids so didn't see the point. It has a den that can become a room I guess

>Everything made of solid material (Porotherm bricks or autoclaved aerated concrete)
Double layered brick with cement, wood interior paneling, wood look aluminumsiding

>Double walled construction to get allmost 100% heat isolation
See above

>outside walls made of clinker so you don't have to bother to renow or paint the plaster.
I think clinker is ugly af

>Trippel pane windows with elektric shutters
Nope just double pane, manual. It's Texas. Never falls below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Electric shutters seem cool though.

>Controlled air exchange with pollenfilter and recuperator
A/C has a passive JET unit

>State of the art heating or cooling with air heatpump
Central A/C heating

>Underfloor heating
Unneeded

>Used water energy recuperation (because it's only 500€)
Don't know what this is. I assume some sort of waste water recyling?

>Pool + poolheating + dehydrating breather to get your pool room air dry
Pool is unheated. I'm thinking about getting a heating unit put in, but it's kind of pointless for the given environment and I like cold swims anyways.

>The moment you said "in as suburb" it stops beeing a decent house.

This butthurt German

Unless you think partial brick/wood houses with plaster internal walls is "paper mache" or whatever the hip American bashing Euro meme is you're really far off the mark.

I get that you guys like to pretend everything in the US is literally crumbling Detroit tier but it gets really weird after a while

>AND they're as big on Jesus as Murrika
That's a good thing you fucking heatrhen

>heatrhen

You idiot, they're not ready made. I'm not talking mobile homes. I've worked in the industry for 10 years.

>being a bitch about typos on Sup Forums
this is why you don't have friends

>this is why you don't have friends

>projecting

>implying implications
it's like 4am during a week-day in america right now and you're on Sup Forums

Oh, we have that stuff exactly the same as well, then.
We even have a gov. program that guarantees 80% of your first house's loan..

>it's like 4am during a week-day in america right now and you're on Sup Forums

It's 1:45am here, I'm up drinking beer, and shitposting while watching car reviews. How does that infer that I don't have friends in any way?
