Why do Germans always use the word "holiday" in place of "vacation"?
The phrase "To go on holiday" makes no sense. The proper statement is "To go on vacation".

They probably associate it with each other like how we call gelaton Jell-o because it's popular, they go vacation on holidays because it's popular.

"Go on holiday" is OK in British English.
Only Americans are incorrect.

Retarded English
You should learn english.
Proper form is "To go on a vacation"
what you said was just as grammatically correct as saying "I drive car" or "I don't have job"
I wasn't butthurt, might genuinely leave the sinking ship for the US soon
yes you are right tho, but it doesnt apply to us this is why we say holiday.
According to Longman dictionary, both are correct in Retarded English.
1) go on a vacation
2) go on vacation
holiday is usually fixed days where you celebrate wierd days like "fathers day" or "labour day"(1may)
vacation are days where you choose to do when you work
I think the word holiday is from british English. Comes from the fact that most holidays were holy days in the christian religion at least earlier in history.
Correct
If Trump doesn't win, then the US is sure to be done for. We'll be Brazil v.2
Because "vacation" is an American term and believe it or not, the majority of the people on the planet AREN'T from Merkinland!
>it's another ignorant american thread
Because it's American English to even use the word "Vacation" in place of "Holiday/s".
Why the fuck murricans say "holiday" instead of "celebration"? Not all celebrations tied to holy reasons.
>guaranteed (yous)
>all these triggered euros
OP you madman

>All Finnish Americans live in Michigan or in the Far North

Not to be complain or anything but there's some very obvious photoshopping under her eyes.
To answer your question:
Because the Germans, as many other Europeans, learn British English at school.
>vacation
absolutely disgusting
I've literally never heard anyone who isn't American use the word vacation, unless they are reading an American piece of text
They are though. All our holidays are either religious in nature, or have something to do with america, and americanism is a pseudo-religion.
We dont just randomly get mandated days off for no reason.
ANd they're weird as shit
youtube.com
>american english
Come on la
>I'm loving every minute of Big Brown men fucking white women

it really does fit to be honest.
There's nothing wrong with that sentence. Just because you speak special snowflake English doesn't mean it's wrong in the proper dialect.
It's because Europeans study British English in school.
The sentence "To go on holiday" is perfectly acceptable in British, Irish, Australian and New Zealand English. I would also imagine it's acceptable in the various African and Asian English too since they often follow British English grammar.
It's YOU fucking yanks who think it's incorrect
Absolutely correct
That's like every Euro senpai.
The girl is really ugly.
Except every Asian wants to learn American English.
I was talking about Asian countries where English is an official language
Ich gehe Urlaub
>every Asian
Fixed: Korean
Japanese would like to know English as Universal language, but not British English and American English.
Those are the only two types of English
Surely you've had lessons in counting to two before?
Of course they are weird Finnish immigrants to America were mostly from Ostrobothnia which is the autistic retard central of Finland
>Why do Germans always use the word "holiday" in place of "vacation"?
Because they mostly use British English, as the rest of Europe? Vacation sounds retarded, desu.
Also, fuck you.
