Newbie to FFMPEG here, trying to encode a video(mp4, MPEG-4) to SWF for /f/ posting.
Tried ffmpeg -i test.mp4 test.swf and while it worked, the resulting video was sped up by 4x while audio remained at normal speed. Searched on google for awhile and someone suggested converting to .flv first before copying the video and audio stream to .swf with ffmpeg -i test.flv -acodec copy -vcodec copy test.swf but I got the same results, anyone know how to fix this? Curiously enough, the video didn't have any problems when converted to .flv, only to .swf
Also, anyone know if there's a "compression parameter" in ffmpeg so I can get it to fit under 10MB?
>pic related How is this feature called? The screenshot is from KDE, but I assume the are many programs who can do this, like there are many different panels to install?
Basically i want to add this to a window manager, but I don't even know what to google, and if i try to describe it, it's easy to end up with results about tiling window managers, except this is something else, more like a nice way to switch between floating windows.
Owen Nelson
try adding -filter:v "setpts=4.0*PTS"

Is there any way, on Android, to have fingerprints recognized, but to only allow password lock? For fingerprints to be used only for other stuff, ie app locks, password managers, etc.

Hello!
I have two folders. One is my music folder, one is a backup of it. For some reason (probably path length?), everytime i try doing a backup of my music folder, the backup ends up having 200 files less or so than the original
Is there a software that would allow me to check what files are missing based on the first folder's content (and every subfolder it contain)? I know winmerge exist, but it actually checks the content of the file, and my music folder is really heavy (77GB)

Is there a valid reason to switch to another OS when Windows 7 stops updating security?
I would use Linux but alot of games don't run good.
Easton Ross
What are the best Premiere Pro tutorials on YouTube?
Cameron Martinez
I'm assuming Windows 10 does not work for you?
Well, security is important, so that's an actual reason, rather than autism or something else.
>games on linux Depends what games you play. I only play Dota 2, so I'm good, it runs natively. Look up the games you play.
And for picking your new OS, the question is >Does it allow me to do everything I need to do with this machine? If yes, there you go, if no look up something else. But don't do distro hopping.
A few minutes would be enough for me to die happy and with no regrets.
Jose Perry
>I'm assuming Windows 10 does not work for you? Yeah, I feel like windows has abandoned a pure desktop environment to make a tablet desktop hybrid that I just don't care for.
I'm just kinda left wondering what to do in a few years after windows ditches windows 7 security updates.
I'm not really worried about getting viruses but I am concerned that infected machines on my local network could pose a problem (I live with idiots family members).
Wouldn't a regular windows firewall keep me safe from idiots on my locale network?
Xavier Smith
probably rather than looking specifically for verification software you should just use something that works properly to make the backup in the first place
Owen Campbell
10's interface is pretty much the same as 7's. Don't worry about it, Mr. Alzheimer.
Juan Harris
Well yes, if your computer is connected to the internet you definitely DON'T want to use an OS that is no longer getting security updates.
Win 7 will stop getting security updates in January 2020, so you can stick with it until then.
Henry Martinez
Cute Remiry, dude.

Waddup /sqt/! I just got a new notebook, it is kinda limited. It has W7(no I wont install gnu/linux now) and I plan to use it for programming and web development. I plan on using Google Chrome to help with web development. I wanted to know if it is still a good option to use IE11 as a main browser just for navigation or is there something better you guys can suggest? I don't really care about privacy, customizability or addons, I just want a lightweight browser. Thanks for reading ^-^!

Will Steam OS ever be a windows replacement for a gaming computer?
I use a shitty old laptop for work and I only use my rig for gaming.
Parker Nguyen
Disconnect all nonessential components (everything but psu/cpu/mobo/ram) see if it turns on if it does, add parts back in one at a time to see which breaks it
Christopher Myers
>(everything but psu/cpu/mobo/ram) CPU and RAM are nonessential. Fans will start spinning without both.
Do what he said, but also removes RAM and CPU power cable (located right under the PSU FAN).
Anthony Barnes
Is it possible to activate windows under a GPT partition?
Daz and MSToolkit wont work.
Cameron Reed
Alright, starting with the basics, Do fan spins when you turn it on?
Did it ever turn on before? Did you connected the F_Panel correctly? EVGA PSUs come with a box to check they work, use it.
Michael Powell
>windows replacement for a gaming computer No, not really. Unless your "Gaming Computer" is a dedicated machine that only runs games, I doubt it. SteamOS has been designed for a use case similar to the Xbox and PlayStation, as something that runs on the HTPC behind your TV.
Robert Murphy
Took it apart like you guys were saying tyvm. Seems i didnt have the one plug with 20+4 or something like that properly plugged in. It does turn on now but nothing is being displayed on my monitor. Any advice?
Adam Scott
Make sure you have the monitor cable plugged into the GPU, and not the motherboard.
If still no output, remove the GPU, and plug monitor into the motherboard.
Leo Williams
Yeah, you need an authentic product key from Microsoft™.
Elijah Phillips
Are the new CPUs coming out truly 8 core?
Or are they 4 cores with extra virtual cores?
I'm trying to learn more about computers again before I build my next rig.
Jack Jenkins
Yes, real 8 cores this time.
Tyler Butler
They are 8 physical cores, so true 8 cores i7 are 4 physical core with HyperThreading (Also called SMT), so the OS see it as 8 cores.
Xavier Thomas
So Ryzen is a true 8 core?
Justin Roberts
I was planning on using part of my tax return to pick up a 4k monitor. Im an illustrator / photographer and I fucking hate Matte Anti-glare screens, losing clarity and color depth isn't worth it. ( I also never open the blinds in my office, and the lamp i use doesn't reflect off my screens. So the drawbacks of glossy are a non-issue.) In doing research there isn't much in the way of glossy 4k monitors... at all. And it feels like OLED / HDR 4k shit will be affordable in the near future, so i might just have to wait. I really don't want to, but my gut is saying that's the best plan of action.
Unless someone knows of a 4k glossy, good color reproduction IPS screen. eh?
Zachary Cruz
yes
Joseph Butler
no reason to use steamOS over any other Linux distro its whole gimmick is that it's supposed to be possible to use with a controller while sitting on your couch if you want a regular gaming pc instead of a living-room console replacement, it doesn't do anything that you couldn't do by installing steam on any other distro
Luis Barnes
I'm so happy.
I think I might get a new rig this coming black Friday. Probably gonna get an HTC vive as well.
I'm waiting for the VR environment to become a little more developed ( I think that it will be fairly good in around 2 years).
Logan Morris
Yes, but the per-thread performance is still less than a $75 Pentium, if that matters for any of your tasks.
Dominic Stewart
You make it sound like it's singlethread performance is horrible when it isn't
Michael Williams
All I care about is playing Total War on my gaming rig. I'll probably get fairly into VR in around a year or two.
For anything work related I use a shitty old laptop because not being able to play good games at whim is a productivity booster.

My chromium install is acting funny so thought I'd try firefox, never had browser videos crash my gpu before, is firefox just shit?
John Diaz
Is there a command line switch to start Firefox minimized that actually works in W10? Wanted to use it in conjunction with JDownloader's captcha solver since it's still annoying to have it steal focus.
David Smith
Yeah, Firefox is shit and needs to be restarted frequently. I usually leave Youtube scripts disabled and download videos with youtube-dl. But then I don't get annotations. The main reason I do that is for controlling playback while playing a game.
Jeremiah Green
My gnome-terminal refuses to launch after some period and I've searched and searched but I have no idea what on earth is causing this to happen.
It works fine shortly after booting into ubuntu/gnome but after some time it just stops working at all, I tried alt+f2 to open xterm and it just gives me this error when I attempt to launch it. Changing locale.conf to the default does not fix this and is the usual answer I come across.
Nolan Adams
You can completely disassemble and clean the keyboard, but that can be very difficult and is likely to completely kill the keyboard. If you need the keyboard working, you could order a new one.
Josiah Watson
Some 390's have this problem. It's hard to RMA, because it's very intermmittent. If you can catch it on video, on 2 different systems, you might be able to get MSI to replace it.

Dominic Turner
Hey guys same guy as before tried putting the monitor cord that goes into my video card but it wasnt working. I think the problem is that my video card or graphics card isnt going all the way in. Okay, here's the thing:
I use Debian Stable, and this OS doesn't have screen savers, only a lock screen.
Can I put a video in VLC to repeat forever and put it in full screen as a screen saver or it will compromise my system somehow?
Colton King
Call of Duty 2 Mobile.

Can anyone vouch for using a SBC like raspi as a torrent server while the main desktop may be powered down? Never installed gentoo/linux or anything so would have to learn all those ropes, which would be for the best anyway.
I guess what is complicated is if it is possible to connect Taiga to one of these.
If there is a simpler solution to collecting chinktoons then please enlighten me.

What reading should I do if I want to work with bluetooth? I have an idea to improve a medical peripheral that already exists, but at current is severely limited in scope and execution. I know very little about bluetooth, so anything about how it broadcasts and interfaces would be nice. Also, what language I might need to pick up.
Jason Gray
Easiest way to learn linux is in a VM. When you inevitably fuck up you can just revert it. Why not just get a seedbox? You don't have to use upload bandwidth on your local connection that way and you're protected from copywrite claims
Anthony Hernandez
Sli/crossfire tends to be a meme these days.
Jackson Ward
>What reading I think a basic reading would be enough to get read
Thomas Powell
So I just tell the seedbox which link to connect and it will download all day night regardless of my devices?
Then maybe it transfers the completed file I want when the local PC is turned on?
Kevin Wilson
Cant upload photos from my phone for some reason sorry.

Future CS autist here. Which math do I take, Intro to Differential Equations or Matrix Algebra?
Blake Harris
Why do redditors get so upset that I put my hair in a bun?
Gavin Gutierrez
Yes, you basically get a preconfigured chunk of server space with a torrent client that you can remote access, usually via a browser page. You paste in links to the .torrent or magnet link, and the client loads them the same as it would on a local computer. When you want to download or upload something, you do that separately, usually with something like SFTP, which should be fast enough to saturate most internet connections.
Mason Brown
I have a pretty scrub question.
I've been downloading movies for as long as I've had the internet.
How do you guys watch them on your television?
I always assumed people just watched at your desk but apparently people watch from their living room and shit.
I tried putting it on a USB and playing it from my PS3 but it wouldn't recognize all the file types and the ones that did play would be horribly jerky every couple of minutes.
Do you guys just keep your desktop in your living room then?
Carson Harris
I have a desktop and a laptop. I store the movies on the desktop, share them over the network, and play them on the laptop to the TV.
Robert Ross
No
William Walker
plex
Joshua Martin
HDMI.
Isaiah Brown
Both. Maths is more important than most of the computing papers. Linear Algebra is GOAT.
Easton Turner
Use a dlna media server program and stream them across your network
Michael Perry
How much would a decent deal for a seedbox be then?
That is probably the only real problem here. If it costs so much then I am almost back to having a cheap linux box thingy that can passively download chinktoons all the time.
Seedbox would allow for copyright avoidance so that I could actually download more then anime, but with anime alone I never imagined there being copyright trouble.
Plex is incredibly easy to use
Matthew Ross
For PS3, you can either (usually losslessly) remux files into a container it accepts, or do it live with something like PS3 Media Server if you have a fairly powerful PC.
Benjamin Parker
Oh man, I'm kind of stuck there.
I got a spot in DE, but when I started changing my mind, Matrix Algebra was full. Is it worth dropping DE and switching in a meme "you need a few classes in this area" class instead?
Connor Wood
Typically, yes, but the OS will just allocate the cores as they become available. Don't be surprised if it only looks like it's running on 3 or less. If they are putting on a lot of load, they should use 4 cores.
Isaac Foster
What do you guys use cloud storage for? I'm racking my brains trying to figure out how it could be useful for me, but I'm probably just going to end up deleting my account.
Adam Lee
If you aren't trying to build a huge ratio on a PT, you can find seedboxes for around $5/mo that will work nicely
Jordan Gray
I have my files in matlab or whatever else synced so that when they are edited any changes are uploaded to the cloud folder so working between desktop and laptop is practical
Brayden Clark
No, do as much maths as you can possibly stand. If you contact the lecturer for matrix Algebra, they might be able to fit you in when someone else drops out.
Noah Cooper

Are there any e-mail providers that are as secure, or at least close to being as secure as Gmail? I know about the whole privacy thing, I mean secure as in less prone to my banking info getting stolen or some shit.
Jayden Smith
Yes, I'm really this stupid. Now on to my question: what's the best way to stream movies from my pc to my tv, preferably wirelessly? I tried my favorite search engine, but I'm not sure what such a device would be called.
Justin Jackson
Thanks for the responses everyone.
So this plex thing do I just put it on some type of computer and plug it into my TV?
I've seen some setups here that you don't even need to use mouse and keyboard with, how do I achieve that?
Jaxson Nguyen
Chromecast/Shit like Chromecase
John Lewis
You get a $20 amazon stick that works great and fine (even with voice control so you can just mouth out the file name) and then the server on plex.tv is all self explanatory there
Easton Bennett
No need to buy anything when there's already a PC and PS3. Don't be dum and wasteful.
Henry Carter
