AH TELL YEW WUT WINT RANG, THE WAR UF NARTHERN AGGRISSION

Slavery

Mississippi was one of the richest states in the country in 1860, but they never recovered from the ACW.

Most of the state looks like a Brazilian favela; Jackson has high crime and awful police. There's also almost no middle class or economic activity beyond farming or service industries.

I read that 32% of the population over the age of 18 in Mississippi cannot spell their state's name.

Another 27% do not know the name of the river that shares the same name as the state.

Like most Southern states, Mississippi has historically invested very little in educating their population. The reason is racism. The white power structure saw little reason to invest in the education of their black citizens.

LITS GO HANG SUM NIIGGERS BILLEH JOE

MS isn't special in the hurdles it had to overcome after slavery, civil-war, civil-rights struggles; and changes from agricultural economies to new economies. Georgia and to some extent Alabama show how a state with the same disadvantages can dig itself out.

Of course you could take the easy, lazy route and blame wacism, but that doesn't explain why the white population is also dumb as dirt.

if thats true thats hilarious
literacy is overrated though

well they were correct. in my midwestern state, we invest more into the negroids than anyone else and yet the negroids still drag down out scores considerably. the negroid is a untamable. only when they have enough european admixture can they function properly.

mississippi is a very poorly in health, such as eating,(the fattest state in the US). very poor, crime, bad education, police suck. now thats the heart of the south!

Honestly surprised that not every single response here is "the blacks"

Sup Forums really is marginally better than Sup Forums

Honest answer: extreme conservatism and republicanism and Christianity leads to awful policies and boom you get the south, objectively the worst nation in the country by every measure

Health conditions and medical services are also really abysmal - obesity rates are some of the highest in the nation and life expectancy is something like 63.

Please stop blaming dumb white people on blacks. Mississippians are stupid regardless of race.

>Mississippians are stupid regardless of race.
This. Blacks are pretty fucking stupid and marginally stupider than Mississippi whites, but Mississippian whites are still REALLYYY fucking stupid.
They vote against policies that would benefit them all the time

This is what that state gets for being among the forefront of racial bigotry. And to put in a perspective that they like to use, God punished their sins of racism and discrimination with crime, low education, poverty, and low standard of living (although this punishment isn't aimed to most of the blacks of that state).

Like building some kind of industry and a middle class?

excellent retort mah freend, the sayouth will raaase ageen

Same with Arkansas although we aren't quite as bad off as Mississippi statistically.

I have a question about Mississippi. Is Mississippi's crime, poverty, and poor education concentrated in the MS River Delta area or is it pretty bad statewide?

The South really dug its own grave by arbitrarily marginalizing its population and creating inner turmoil through Jim Crow.

If the South had accepted African Americans as human beings after they lost the Civil War, America would be miles ahead of what it is now. Reconstruction failed and the South was able to continue retarding our progress.

I was wondering if one reason would be the lack of major cities in Mississippi(Except for Jackson). West Virginia is also a poor state and the largest city (Huntington) has less than 100,000 people. Alabama and Georgia have the advantages of larger cities (Birmingham, Montgomery and of course, Atlanta). North Carolina, which seems much better off, has many large cities--Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh.

t. tyrone jamalson

they try to vote for free market shit and then are too lazy to function in it

It has more to do with the climate of the region retarding its development. Most of America's industry developed in the Northeast and Midwest and it was not until post-WWII that air conditioning made the Sun Belt hospitable.

I mean, when it's 95 degrees with 250% humidity, you don't feel like doing much of anything.

no you fucking genius it doesnt have many cities because its rural as fuck. just like west virginia is all mountains, montana is all mountains and plains, and ireland is all farms. you need a high population for a lot of cities. rural/wilderness regions dont make the cut for urban metropolis.

The education system is almost nonexistent; you can't have an industrialized middle class when you can't even spell your name properly. Most colleges in the Deep South are just a football team posing as a school.
