So you have four separate items: >sound system >cable box >tv >dvd player
If I'm reading your post right: >the sound system and cable box are connected >the tv and dvd player are connected
So, since the dvd player only talks to the tv, and the tv has no way to talk to the sound system when the cable box isn't used, the dvd player can't use the sound system.
I can see two ways to solve this: >connect the sound system directly to the TV (if possible) >have the dvd player pass through the cable box (if possible)
Gavin Lee
Kill yourself, you dumb fucking shit stain.

So yes, thank you for your time good sir greatly appreciated.
Let me give you further details perhaps it will help you out more.
the sound system is connected to cable box through an rca cable.
the cable box is connected to the tv by an hdmi cable.
the dvd player is connected to tv by its own hdmi cable.
now the dvd player only has one slot for audio, as it is not rca cable compatible.
The dvd player only has an option for a "digital coaxial audio output"
does this mean i will have to buy a coaxial cable or something that will connect from dvd to cable box perhaps? or is there another option?

>digital coaxial audio output I'm not entirely sure, but isn't RCA audio output analog only?
If so, you might have to buy some kind of DAC for digital input to analog output.
Does your TV have RCA outputs for audio? If so, it might be easier to connect the sound system directly to the TV.
Wyatt Nguyen
oh shit it looks like the tv is compatible. has the L and R slots for rca i believe yes.
In the case that it doesn't work then what.
Nolan Edwards
If that doesn't work, then you could buy a cheap DAC and a digital coax cable, and swap out the cables when you want to watch tv or watch a dvd.
If you wanted to watch tv, the audio would go cable box to speakers If you wanted to watch a dvd, the audio would go dvd player to dac to speakers
To be honest, you should try asking on a specialized multimedia forum, you would get better answers. I haven't fiddled with audio stuff in a long time, I'm sure there are lots of better solutions now.
