I think it's just luck, even then if it's a fake like mine was then open a dispute for counterfeit goods and get a refund. This one turned out to be a damn good fake battery and free.
Also there's some things that for some reason EVERY fake T420 battery has, one is the "Li-Ion 00" has a different font to the original ones and the second one is below the "CAUTION" where it says "Use of another battery..." the fakes will say "Use of enother battery...".

I submitted plenty of proof though, all the serial numbers, battery capacity and brands didn't match with what the Lenovo Power Manager showed up and the listing was supposedly a "100% original genuine battery".
My guess is that the cells were new but they flashed a generic firmware since it's a "smart battery" in a generic mislabeled case. That ain't genuine for me.
Then buy from a local shop/national website instead... Chink shit sucks for when you need your shit fast or by a certain time.

I don't know exactly the thing here, but sellers prefer you to be the one "defaulting" when cancelling orders. I think there's a penalty to them if it's their fault.
When this happens, I just put the reason I changed my mind and get the refund.
