Why do some city names in United States sound Spanish?

specially in the west, for example santa ana, los angeles, costa mesa, corona, san francisco, etc....
And why don't americans make english version of those names, to make the region more tipycally american?

we wuz mexicans and shit

because they were spanish

Oh golly gee

I wonder

Rightful Spanish clay

>why didn't americans make english version of those names
this is a good question tho
also why they added spanish words to their vocabulary? "pronto", "incommunicado", "desperado" (this one is wrong but still)

That's clearly mexican, retardinho

We Americanized it with our disgusting Anglo pronunciation

>specially in the west, for example santa ana, los angeles, costa mesa, corona, san francisco, etc....
They used to be part of Mexico
>change the names
They renamed some that sounded too spicey but most were pronouncable so no point.

...

give example of some names they changed.
Los Angeles could be The Angels

it's odd tho
euros have the healthy custom of changing the name of conquered territories
i thought unitedstatians were descendants of them

>Portuguese education

it's freaking weird, I didn't even know spaniards reached that north

El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de la Porciuncula became Los Angeles.

>Portufailures never colonized the Americas

because at one point part of the modern US was part of mexico

or part of spain? and then spain sold it to usa?

>never colonized the Americas
i fucking WISH they didn't :¬/

Because reasons

We sold Florida

California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah were all mexico before the Mexican-American war after the U.S won the war we took all that land from mexico

>nueva viscaya kek
>they even have their own ETA (cartels)

the same reason we named half the states after native americans

wyoming and idaho? those names don't seem english or spanish indeed

People apparently still used the Spanish pronunciation of Los Angeles into the 1930s.

Kentucky Illinois and Dakotas(maybe ohio) as well

I'll post some suggestions for new names

San Francisco - Saint Francis
Los Angeles - The Angeles
Arizona - Arid zone
etc....

You did the anglification with New México, you should finish the job

Those sound stupid. Cities with actual words suck

The Angels*

I think it's mostly just that Anglos have no problem absorbing words from other languages especially names.

and arkansas, alaska, indiana, iowa, kansas, michigan, minnesota, missouri, nebraska, oklahoma, utah and wisconsin. they're all pretty much anglicization of native american words or names.

That's wrong, sudaca. Does Amapá, Tacuarembó, Oaxaca, etc sound spanish or indian?

The Devils would have been more appropriate. San Francisco should also be changed to New Sodom. Arizona is the only one appropriately named.
