Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

I've had it with my T430. The screen literally makes my eyes bleed when I'm programming.

How's the T460 with FHD display??

First for new Telegram group chat

X230 for 299€ with 8GB ram and a new 240GB SSD, deal or not? Prices are higher than in the US over here.

4th for ##ibmthinkpad @ freenode.

EVERYONE POST YOUR IDLE/LOAD TEMPS

THIS IS NOT A DRILL

T420 45/75 HERE

no deal

which country

Dunno what idle was on my T430s but it was 77 max with 20+ tabs and screen recorder on LXLE

Considering x230s with 4GB ram and 320GB HDDs go for 210-230€ it seemed like a decent deal though.

France.

well, not worth nagging maybe, i'd say 250 but we are talking about 50e of a difference here. if its clean machine, 299 is still good.

Need a decent gaming laptop, I don't need anything amazing, but a 860MX would be good.
>Limit
450$
>Country
Czech Republic
>Preferred Brand
Dell, ASUS
Anybody got a good offer? 8GB RAM would be also preferred.

The latch mechanism on my T420 broke.
How do you open it?

>T420
35-40 C idle
75-85 C under load (encoding with ffmpeg or playing 1080p BD with mpv under opengl-hq)

is there a win10 guide for t420 to get everything working? bluetooth led, mic mute led etc.

and also how did u guys get rid of lizard skin touchpad

I had a dream last night that you wrote a book.

paperclip or something to slide the hook?

My quadro 1000m can't even maintain 20fps overwatch on low so I disabled it. Newer Intel igpus gets like 80fps on low.

There's nothing to grab.
Pic related, the red part got broken.

Kinda wishing I'd spent the extra on the elitebook 820 instead, but fuck that it's an extra 50%.

What's the equivalent latitude and thinkpad to this? And how much is this going for in your country?

Enjoy your loud housefire

Excuse me?

I wish my dick was a rat

shit

>What's the equivalent latitude and thinkpad to this? And how much is this going for in your country?

Taking into account the U cpu, the Latitude equivalent would be a 6320, and Thinkpad equivalent would be a X220.

For that money I can easily get a used T430 in Slav Yurop, or a T520 in mint condition, or a beefed up X220 with new ssd and battery.

A 2170p is like $200 US max here. used, cant find it refurbished. Very few actually refurbished laptops here.

>Sup Forums shits all over the L series
>Get L420 for free
>Best laptop I've ever owned

The only slightly annoying thing is the placement of the USB ports. Why the fuck did they put them so close to the front right where, you know, the mouse usually sits

Aside from that all the consumer laptops I've owned previously have been BTFO by this

It's only considered bad because it's just flat-out inferior to the T series and they're around the same price when buying used. If you got it for free, that's fine.

From the previous thread...

>I have a i7 x230 already, but I need something lighter/less noisy/has better battery

Just get a new 9 cell and slice.
You will regret getting a new X260 or X270.

opinions on t440 or t500? can get either for free but i have to choose

My Thinkpad smells like the inside of a second hand car from the 1990s

Did Lenovo do this on purpose to induce nostalgia?

install gentoo

T500 duh

Do all T440p's have non-soldered CPUs?
What is the essential difference between type 20AN and 20AW - is one the Nvidia one and the other the iGPU one?

Is it possible to replace x220 motherboard with x230t motherboard? I want that 3rd gen Intel

user I told you already, sell the 220, get the 230 and switch the keyboard

It's just gravity melting your plastic thus the evaporated smell. See you in a year when suddenly you get a 90°c Intel monolith on your balls.

:(

No, it can't be done. You also can't transplant the regular X230 motherboard, because the X220 has a different port layout.

Not that different

The touchpad has a noticeable delay and I can't cope with it.

Use the trackpoint like any sane person

nobody uses the touchpad

what's the worse that could happen if you use a crowbar? you cant get a lid for $24 and a palmrest for $18

>you cant

*can

refurb x1, y/n?

Anyone have issues getting to boot off USB? I can't even enter the BIOS screen. It says to hit Enter but it never works, goes straight to the pre-loaded Win10.

This is a refurbished X130e.

Fuck off

We're serious businessmen, we're not interested in some anarchist's paradise of porn and gore

X230T

Nothing running: ~45C
Browser+music+IDE open: ~55C
Youtube/anything CPU intensive: ~75C

Should I repaste? This thing is going on four years without ever replacing the paste. It just seems like such a bitch to do on this particular model.

What ThinkPad costs

not really, almost normal temps for that model, but yea four years is a long time.

Turn off Turbo Boost my dude.

T420/30

Elitebook 8470p.

Can even upgrade to a quad core Ivy Bridge.

x220 with 8Gb RAM and 320gb HDD for 190€
or
x230 8Gb RAM and 120Gb SSD for 210€

Which one? I'm thinking the x230 for the 3rd gen processor but some anons seem to prefer the kb on the x220, but this isn't really a selling point for me as i have never even tried one.

I forgot to mention in my post. From sweden so prices are probably higher than what americans would buy them for.
Also since I'm buying it used in person I have a chance to inspect it first. What should I be looking out for to not get completely butscammed

Quadros aren't for manchild gamers.

I have a T420 and I was going to use my Dell D830's wwan card for LTE access but my the MC8775 card isn't on the "Lenovo approved" list. How would I get past this?

When people on here say they need a laptop for music production, how does the processor assist?

The way I see it, get a basic x220 and upgrade it if you just want a secondary Sup Forums machine, get an x230 if it's your only computer and you need to wring all you can out of it.

They're not joking about the keyboard though.

I think I'm going to just return this piece of crap. How do you ship something where you can't even get into the BIOS.

have you tried just doing F1. Enter interrupts startup and then usually do ctrl+s or some shit.

F1 should instead take you right to bios.

and also F12 to choose temporary boot device.

>What should I be looking out for to not get completely butscammed

audio jack, brightness levels, power button.

flash an unlocked bios.

www95.zippyshare.com/v/rBVD1Bf6/file.html

then run as admin

winflash.exe /sv /sd "$01C8000.FL1"

that's what I did, zero issues so far. there is no other option.

I'm not familiar with the linux procedure tho.

What do? The lcd randomly disconnects. I reseated the cable but still happens from time to time

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_processing_unit

Thanks, looks like I'm getting the x220 to use as a portable shitposting machine.
Would you mind elaborating on those points?
Audio jack- Just check if it works or anything more?
Brightness levels- how bright? or also just general quality of screen?
Powerbutton- See if it powers on?

Didn't work, so I said fuck it and removed the power and battery, pressed power a few times, and put the battery back. Then it worked.

Welp time for TAILS.

have a w500 so basically a t500. if you can handle the weight get it

Realistically, how much for a x230 i7 with ips screen ? Europe
I'm looking at one with 8gb ram and a 500gb hard drive : 430 €

>win10
>everything working

again user, you impress me with your attempts at comedy

Alright lads, I'm looking into purchasing my first thinkpad, for general purpose use.

I'm currently trying to decide between getting a used T550 ($450 at ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T550-15-6-2-30GHz-8GB-256GB-SSD-Windows-7-French-/371761331385?hash=item568eb3bcb9:g:EP4AAOSwCGVX~pzu)
or a new T650 ($600 with coupon at shop.lenovo.com/perksoffer/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/t-series/t560/)

Can anyone experienced weigh in on this decision? Is a brand new model with better hardware worth the extra $150?

Alternatively, if both of the laptops I'm looking at are shit, please recommend a non-shit one.

Thank you

Whoever this is archive.rebeccablacktech.com/g/thread/S58964753#p58976015

I put an SXGA+ screen in it as well as a post-fuckup NVS-140 board with a T9500. NMB keyboard, 256 SS PRO SSD.

Pretty comfy. This post is for you.

What would you guys recommend between a T430 and an Elitebook 8440w for about the same price?

take a picture of the connector and seat post it here.

or clean both with iso and lightish compressd air

>Is a brand new model with better hardware worth the extra $150?
No

>Alternatively, if both of the laptops I'm looking at are shit, please recommend a non-shit one.

Literally nothing you couldn't do on a T550 you couldn't do on a T420 or T520.

Just swap in an X220 keyboard.

Saw a t420 for 300 maple bucks( ~222 usd ) is that worth it guys?

The 720p screen is horrible.

did anyone here manage to get the trackpoint buttons working nice with hackintosh?

Unless it's already loaded with SSD and 16 GB RAM, not really. 150 tops

I'd use it for school only (CS) I already have a desktop

>>Is a brand new model with better hardware worth the extra $150?
>No
Unironically this. The new line has considerably higher fault rate than the older pieces.

>gaming
>laptop
ty jsi kreten

No chance, I (just last week) bought a T420 with a 120gb SSD for £94 off ebay, and it works a treat

Is it true Win7 provides the best battery life on xx30?

Can someone answer me pls?

You best start believing in think-pad threads, you're in one

any tutorials on replacing x200t screen?
someone said to look at the manual last thread but the manual on my model has no info about it

T430 for sure. The main reason to consider Latitudes or Elitebooks is that they're usually substantially cheaper for an equivalent model. The 8440w is two generations behind the T430, it's absolutely not worth the same price.

>feel like having a windows machine
>Thinkpad sounds good
>arrives, computrace
>can't be removed, but only works with windows
another macOS install it is

This is just some stupid bug with Edge models of that era. If you need to get around it in the future, removing the CMOS battery works too.

I would say x220 and 6320.

Be aware that the Latitude have terrible support from Dell, not even close to what Lenovo offer for old thinkpads. It mostly matter if you want to use Windows 10 and get all drivers working tho.

If you got it for free, that's fine, still much better than other used laptops. You should still try and sell it so you can buy a T430 series instead. You might even make money in the process.

Also, don't forget to install tlp:
linrunner.de/en/tlp/docs/tlp-linux-advanced-power-management.html

The touchpad is covered with a sticker, might be hard to remove.

For Win10, install the lenovo update manager and let it install drivers and utilities. It's essential for proper functionality and battery life.

All of them. But preferably a t430s

Programming on a low res screen sucks.

theres a setting for palm rejection in windows 10
turn that off
Huh I thought the x230/t used mini DP
if thats the case then you can just swap them out since the x220 and x220t use the same mobo (same with x230/t)

it does use mini DP
