BUMP

Probably the ones that get the most Sup Forums memederp flung at them.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

it's total underrated. Tumbleweed is a fucking great rolling release distribution for the Desktop, Leap is a perfect server OS. With yast, even windows admins can administer a full featured linux server without any learning curve.

Overrated more like. It's literally gentoo only shittified in every regard.

OpenSUSE was underrated 10 years ago when it had great repos, great tooling, a fantastic out-of-the-box experience and few users. Nowadays it lost every single thing that made it good. It's a buggy mess with fuckall packages, and even less packages by the day as more popular repos close down. The patches they used to provide increased stability and features of various software. Now it literally does the opposite. I insist on 'literally' here. It makes not an inkling of sense.

Alpine linux.

Suse had long shitty phase. But they managed to get over it.
I left the suse train long ago and entered massive distro hopping. the longest timespan i stayed with lmde2 (also underrated) but now i switched back to suse (leap for server and tumbleweed for the clients). Best experience since 6.4 (and i truly loved 6.4)

Overrated would mean it's receiving lots of attention when it's not. Far as the actual distribution is concerned it's no worse than what Antergos is to Arch.
I think it necessary that such a "baby" version of Gentoo should exist so that Gentoo can get the exposure and love it deserves instead of the Arch meme.
