>What do LatAms think of their former colonial rulers?
Personally, I like Spain a lot. Mexicans can go from not giving a shit (more likely) to love them. The hate towards them is a meme, just like the "give us back nuestros horos" mentality.
>Is this true or propaganda?
Parts of it are true, parts of it are propaganda. But Spaniards weren't particulary brutal towards the natives as opossed to Anglos, Frogs and Barbosas. Quite the contrary.
They still trated natives like shit though, just not as bad as everybody else.
>How do LatAms feel about this period in history?
It's part of my history, what can I think about it? My ancestors were both the conquered AND the conquerors. Shit happens and here we are.
In these regards, though, the general population does seem to sympathise more with the anciet natives (they treat current amerindians like shit) and see the old Spaniards as the bad guys. Which, while partly true (Mexicas weren't saints either, although that doesn't justify Spaniards), they seem to forget that we are the sons of the conquistadores too, like I said.
>Also, are there any stereotypes regarding Spaniards?
Yes. Pretty much what you said. Gallegos and the lisp.
I don't know who came up with the idea of calling all Spaniards Gallegos (a region in Spain), but, at least in Mexico, Gallego jokes imply that they are stupid. That's how it is. The hate for Spain wasn't a meme back then, so that's why it is offensive.
