What are you nostalgic for?

What are you nostalgic for?
I was only born late 80s, my nostalgia is for pre 2000s internet. but most of you probably have fucking fond memories of shitty computers with no memory. I want to hear about that.

>but most of you probably have fucking fond memories of shitty computers with no memory

most of Sup Forums were born after 2000 and post illegaly here. What the fuck are you thinking?

People born before 1990 are an exception on this board.

I've never used a computer with no memory.
My first computer had 64 KiB of RAM.

google video was much better than youtube.

google groups, aka web based usenet, was pretty cool to browse old usenet threads

Sad times when an internet connection from 1998 has faster loading times than 4chans image servers

64MB here

i remember getting anxiety over 128 vs 256 for my first ibook

remember getting my first 802.11b airport card

I'm 98 bruh. Where do I belong?

Pirates of the Caribbean Online
It was the first MMO I've ever played and it was discontinued in 2011. I'd imagine I wouldn't enjoy it as much now if it weren't for all my childhood memories.

everquest. never played it but sage

I'm not super oldfag but I remember FF 2.0

I'm nostalgic about old website design, back before there were ads in every single free space, and pages were nice and lightweight.

Now every website is bloated as fuck even if you block the ads, overlays, shitty autoloading videos, slideshows that should be lists, ect.

I tried so fucking hard to get that game running when I was like 12 but I never did

In a casket.

I remember my firefox 3.x that I loved to death. Wasn't long after they went to their new style of versions and had a new number 5 times a year.

leetist hacker in the old folks home

I thought I was the shit when I was 8 years old, downloading pokemon roms off the net and trying to give it to my friend on that fucking 2 MB floppy that couldn't hold the whole thing. Even downloaded the japanese pokemon silver before it got released in north america.

All those awesome shockwave games. This was before I knew what porn was or that you could get it on the internet.

Kids get out.

Occasionally I post from my Windows ME desktop, but it's not exaclty for the sake of nostalgia. I don't think I've developed such feelings towards anything, really.

As in born 1998 or 98 years old?
Cause one's a million times more likely.

I am nostalgic for absolutely, positively NOTHING. Nostalgia is 100% cancer, let me spell that out. C - A - N - C - E - R.

Nostalgia lies to you making you think that everything was better, you were simply in blissful ignorance and actually know how it all works now. The other thing it does is start brewing up ageism and discrimination. Look how the first faggot said anything before 2000 is fine but oh now we move the goalposts when someone born in 1998, because it's too close. You're both a faggot for making up these rules and then a super faggot for moving the goalposts when someone is too close.

I made a vow to myself a couple of years ago to drop all nostalgia feelings and it was one of the best decisions of my life, I feel completely free. Nostalgia is perfectly fine when it's a game or movie because you can actually go back and play it again. But when you do this "era" shit where you're nostalgic for a time frame, you're fucked because you can't experience it completely again. You only have your memories to go off of and they are unreliable and shitty because you've only kept the good parts.

Nostalgia = being unable to deal with any current time, ageism, and cancer. In that order.

I challenge any nostalgia shit to actually go back and use your gay and bad OS, hardware, etc. But of course you won't because you want this earthbound disease where you collectively circlejerk over something you haven't touched in over 20 years and we enter this weird state where everyone's various memories have rotted and nobody even knows what they're circlejerking over about.

Are you that trip fag that used to post Windows ME shit here like 8 years ago?

Nope!
I can deliver a message for Sparky though.

I don't think you actually feel free, considering how loaded this post is.

The pre-SEO internet
Corporatized search indexing is the root cause of the control-oriented, all-knowing, all-collecting state of the internet today, and it sucks. Remember when google didn't show you sponsored results? Remember when the best way to find a website was to stumble on it through some friends' word of mouth or on a forum? Remember when there were websites worth discovering?

>2017 Australian internet

>ageism
>newer is always better

lol fuck off

Yeah, it's much easier to find exactly what I'm looking for now.
Back then you had to go through newsgroups and manually download headers and use parity files to repair the fucked up downloads.
Now you just search "anything torrent" and apply common sense.
Internet connections both client side and server side are also so much faster.
Much better place now.

Apple Newton Messagepads (I was using mine as a note taker and eReader up until 2015, when i plugged in the charger and it just started smoking up). It's completely fried. Had so many good books on there and neat little calendrical + note-taking utilities.

BeOS. Literally the only OS I've ever tried that was a complete joy to use. Too bad Haiku development is slow and BeOS + its later derivative re-brandings don't work on modern hardware.

All the games and crap like that I can still play on my N64, my WII (via homebrew snes and nes emulators), dosbox, or my Win 7 partition, so I'm not nostalgic for them at all. Other shit like WinAMP (version 3 runs great under WINE, and the 5.x version do fine on win7) don't have to be nostalgic for either.

I was lucky enough to be on the internet when almost everyone was infected with sub7 or backorifice. I'd just sit in irc and try to connect to any ip's that joined, then i'd look at what they were typing, and sometimes make them say stupid shit in private message, like if some guy was talking to a girl, i'd type, i want to fuck you in the ass, then watch the lulz unfold.

those were the days.

You are cancer, he's asking for experiences before 2000. If you were born in 1998 then you were a fucking baby and didn't have any worth talking about until at least 2008.

Face it, you didn't grow up in the best time in the history of the planet. You didn't experience a world before the cancer of cellphones and 24/7 connectivity ruined everything and yet there was still technology to be excited about.

You know what I miss? Programmers that gave a shit about the size of their software. When you had to put something one 2 floppy disks, you had to really know your craft to minimize the fuck out of it. Now we have apps that are no better than flash games that take up 400MB on a phone. WTF?

Go to bed, kid. It's a school night.

Renders faster than modern JS-heavy bullshit does as well.

I remember that shit.

Isn't the average web page now 4MB?

War and Peace isn't even that big.

I'm not a programmer, but I still care. I even upx --ultra-brute my binaries before I release them. Not the best solution, but it cuts the size down.

Some runescape nigga

being born >1990 is just about the saddest thing I can imagine

>there's people who don't remember the world before 9/11

Makes me sad.

>There people do not know what true freedom is like

>I want to hear about that.
We had stationary idiot boxes.
Now they're portable and most people stare at them all day.
It was better not seeing I'm surrounded by brain-dead zombies.

>not trolling in Ultima Online

Youngfags

justinposting is always so on point but then he ruins it with some gay fucking strawman not based in reality at the end

Sup Forums tech nostalgia IS gay in the way he describes, because it's usually a bunch of retarded faggots who know fuck all about anything trying to act like they understand what they're talking about just because they were alive at the time, and worse of all they usually feel smug about it, it's fucking retarded and an insult to people who actually did their homework

but justin is always wrong when he says those who like the past can't deal with the present, but he knows that, and I just want to shit on nostalgiatards with him

>implying it's illegal to break the terms of service

Halo 2 and Fable with my brother. I love mid 2000s stuff, including bands. Plus WoW gives me a hard on since my brother used to pay out when he was in high school. I still play his 13 year old Xbox.

late 90s to mid 2000s

>What are you nostalgic for?
Internet before big business moved in.
Lack of global botnets.
Being able to browse without uBlock(AdBlock) and NoScript.
Gayming as a niche. Well, niche moved to indie but good luck finding gems.
No girls on the internet.
Windows locking porn banner trojans are not something I am nostalgic for.
