you know those are all new christian names dont you ? except for ferreira all those names that are from nature are new christian (former jews that were obligated by the crown to be converted to christianity most of them were obligated to keep doing jewish stuff in secret). Some of them fled to brazil, and built some small churches to read the torah in secret.

Unfortunately most surnames in Catalonia are already of Spanish origin (mostly due to immigration), so I'll post only some common true Catalan surnames:
>Vila Village >Vidal Vital >Martí Martin >Ferrer Smith >Soler Solarium >Puig Hill >Pujol Hill (There are a lot of hills in Catalonia) >Font Fountain >Rovira Oak grove >Pons Derived from Pontius (like in Pontius Pilate), I think it meant something like "fifth son". >Bosch Forest
Cameron Moore
you're retarded if you think people back then had surnames like the nobles. Most of them adopted surnames just because they didn't have anything at all. Nobles would get names like Fernandes, nunes, rodrigues, etc while plebs would get names like carvalho, figueira, etc. The jews adopted anything to fit in...Wasn't enough tho..

Goth heritage ain't free ;)
Many Catalan names, toponymics and surnames are of Germanic origin.
If you are around Catalonia and you want to know the meaning of the name of an old town, the best thing you can do is grab a German dictionary and look for similar words.
There are also some interesting cognates, like fang (mud) > veen (peat, bog). Both come from the gothic "fani".
We also do not say "cuchillo" or "couteau" like in Spanish and French for "knife". We say "ganivet" which has the same root as "knife" (Proto-germanic " knibaz ")

For instance, this place, in conjuction with Septimania was called the "Marquisate of Gothia", and also was called "Gothalaunia" (a latinization of "Gotland"), which ended up transforming in our actual name.
That's a "Catalan". Immigrant trash. Too many of them, being honest.
Her accent sucks and the lyrics are HORRIBLY written.
Plus she does not look like a Catalan -.-
Jaxson Morris
Well the more you know. I had read that 'Catalonia', just like Castille, came from the large amount of castles they built to protect themselves from the muslims
Jackson Hughes
Literally all the same in galician except silva that means blackberry.
Asher Ross
> I had read that 'Catalonia', just like Castille, came from the large amount of castles they built to protect themselves from the muslims
It's just not true. And I think that the explanation I provided is quite easy to believe. It just make sense, since the things that I made reference to are historical facts.
I'm not an independentist, but many anti-catalan spaniards constantly try to hide our history. Catalonia (or the counties and marquisates that the territory encompassed), followed a very different path than that of the Spanish kingdoms. For example, our lands were reconquered much faster, and we and the north of Aragon were part of the Frankish Empire.
That guy is probably a true Catalan, at least half of him. (judging his looks and his surname). But he is still a piece of shit :)
And the lyrics, oh my god... he does not know his own language...
Jace Peterson
He looks Polish-Jewish.
Catalan Pronunciation is very similar to Portuguese for some reason. Way more similar than castillan to be honest

Some Catalans look like Ashkenazi jews, you are right.
Gabriel Moore
A friend of mine said it's because Castillan was cucked by Basque language while Catalonian and Portuguese were not.
