So I bought an actual slot machine. I've been learning a bunch since about the technical aspects of them. From the software to the simple guts of the machines, It's kinda fun actually understanding the workings behind these money eating monsters.

Post moar. I'm somewhat intrigued. How much did it cost?

So here are the guts of the money eating machine. Most importantly the 2 eprom chups at the upper right of the pic with labels. Those determine your game and odds. My machine has an SS4254 Reel PROM and SP731 Game PROM which equates to a 90.035% paypack probability (assuming you play for X times which I dunno at this time)

Sorry for the bad lighting.

Got it for $550. This one was equipped for using quarters and bills...though the bill validator is older and can't handle newer $5 bills.

Here are the main guts when opened. You've got the reels, the hopper, and the bill validator and cash box.

And in the door the main coin chutes and coin comparator (which validates the coin being inserted) reside. You have to actually insert a real quarter in the comparator so that it accepts legit quarters. You can also change this out with other coins or tokens and it then accepts only the inserted type.

In my case I have an IGT S+ cabinet which is older (you commonly see S2000 or newer ones on most casinos these days but this one still makes a rare appearance). It is specifically configured for quarters.

But can it run GNU/Linux (or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux)?

You should try reversing their barcode/ticket system in the bill validator. Or the actual bill validation, could result in some cool posts

lol no...also I'm fairly sure you can't play Doom from simple number readouts.

Here's the bill validator itself. Mentioned earlier it seems to accept all bills aside from the latest $5 bills. I haven't tried any $50 or $100 bills on it tho I suspect they wont work. It used a JCM DBV-200 so I should look into updating it if possible. The bill box needs a cleanup but amazingly works. Its kinda satisfying yanking bills out of it.

Can it run Doom?

Have you tried reversing the polarity of the flux capacitor? (serious question)

well my unit doesn't do tickets, just bills. That said...now that I have a legit unit I am tempted to experiment at what it will and won't accept for the sake of knowing. I would not post any of that here tho (sorry) since I don't condone illegal activities.

Show this to if you plan on doing anything with it.

What made you want to buy a slot machine?

No...it never works. Trust me.

Just wanted one for fun. I commonly play this specific game at casinos so having a legit one at home means I won't just dump my cash there instead.

Wow!

lol. chesus christ.

Absolutely nothing illegal about making posts about it, just don't give exact technical details

Include me in the screen cap.

what car is that?

So thanks to the fact that these things use EPROMs I reeducated myself on the technology behind them. I had forgotten that UV light wipes the things if you don't cover the quartz windows (hence the labels).

I used to be fascinated by these things ever since the movie Real Genius when they yanked em out of the computers of that laser weapon.

uhhh...

Marty!

so anyway...that mobo generally sits behind the coin hopper. Once the hopper is removed you slide it out and do whatever you need to do.

In the case of my system it used a 10MHz board vs some newer 16MHz ones. The 10MHz ones are actually better in most cases because they have built in option DIP switches and also a physical volume control. The 16MHz ones have to be controlled from a menu and also apparently induce a buzz through the speaker (not an issue in a casino...but in a house it would be annoying)

I don't suppose you could play a 16MHz sound into the speaker in an attempt to control the machine could you

Being serious, but what if you could find a "brown note" for the machine to drop its' loot

Did you identify the DeLorean from its shadow or has OP posted his car here before?

Samefag. Staging is too poor.

no wouldn't work. Doesn't work that way.

One can induce signals internally vie the wiring but you'd have to open the system up which isn't happening in a real casino.

That said...I have no idea what that black box above the motherboard does.

There was a question that was asked to me when I made a similar post previously about if the thing was connected to a network and odds changed.

More recently some newer machines CAN be changed at a whim...but rules require that you can't change the probabilities of a hit while a machine is being played. Also they can't just change the probability to 0%. Various state rules stop that from happening so they still likely fit within the 85-95% payout.

The box may just be the thing use for those player cards you see in some casinos. The card reader and display have been removed from my system though the cutouts still exist.

newp...tho you can keep believing if it makes you feel better.

>g-guys b-believe me, my word is good g-guise!

What the fuck? You totally convinced me dude! I'm a believer now!

It's probably part of a multi-machine progressive slot.

*shrug*

ah maybe

That's not telling me anything stupid

No it definetly is, open your eyes

IT. IS. A. DELOREAN. USE. GOOGLE.

Delorean? Fucking lol, you expected me to believe that? What's next, a Stacy-ean? What abut abigailean?

Get a load of this moralfag

have you got the original shit engine?

Is having morals suddenly bad? You sound like a Sup Forumstard degenerate. I don't deal with degenerates.
/thread.

I knew that it was a DeLorean, but how the fuck is the guy asking supposed to Google it if he doesn't even know what the fuck it is?

Fuck off dad I can fight my own battles.

Get a load of this child with down syndrome.

Says the degenerate gambler

ANYWAY....

I also happen to collect coins so I was delighted to find a near mint bicentennial quarter in the mix of quarters I bought to feed the machine (I got about 450 of em to feed it in normal ops). They aren't worth much tho so I decided to make it my reference coin in the comparator.

DIP switch settings.

Seems like mine is set in a programmable mode with reel sounds and fast mode enabled. This makes sense since it seems to be set to pay out up to $1k in quarters (I laugh at that idea but it is what it is)

My day job is writing/auditing pokie software (1% bugfixes, 99% legal compliance). I wish it was still all like what you've shown here.

Now they're bog standard x86 machines. It's really boring.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing!

I would b very careful with the JCM bill validators. Used them before and they're kinda dog shit. (pyramid is no better)

So I've gathered. Mine has actually been recycling a lot but I suspect that's a symptom of old switches. It hasn't affected functionality.

>glendale heights, il
shieeeet close to home

And then there is error clearing. I was getting error 43 (reel 3 tilt) errors when I first started it but that has since cleared up. As they usually say...it is recommended to have the machine on a few hours to warm up before doing full scale runs due to errors when cool. Upon further investigation the reel was actually a bit lopsided. Luckily I ordered a second set of reels so I swapped em out and all is good. The built in chart has been informative.

so, you're an addict and you decided to purchase your own needle. good for you.

don't they use amigas any more? awww.

Huh, linear power supply on board... don't see that too much with arcade hardware, at least.

I see it has a backup battery too. Does it save scores to SRAM?

Know what CPU it is? Also those 27C512 eeprms are surprisingly large, especially given how simple the program is. Must have been manufactured pretty late when the cost of these no longer mattered.

If you're really board you can get a tl866a and try reading them or burning some spare eproms.

>hurrr i don't condone illegal activity

such obvious samefaggotry, i can tell because of the way you type (when you do this for no reason) as you have done it in several posts.

claims not to be samefagging but doesnt include screencap to prove it.

you fucking reek of reddit, go drive your delorean off a bridge attention whoring faggot

And you gained this experience and knowledge how?

I plan to look into burning my own EEPROMs at some point. Would save me the hassle of buying various ones.

I do not. (pic related) I am military and would never do such a thing. As for your obsession with coincidence...deal with it. I was amused seeing a post that let me go "shit I have one of those too"

PS: Any mods available that can shut these samefag trolls up? It's irritating.

I do. The car is constantly trying to kill me.
